Calling everything Apple does “iconic” really dilutes all meaning of the word. Their notch wasn’t “iconic.” It was just a blob that engineers couldn’t figure out how to get rid of. Them claiming that it was intentional “design language” has always been such an eye rolling thing to me.

Remember when Tim Cook said he would put a damper on leaks? We 6 months out and can practically build our own iPhone 15

Tim Cook has just been waiting out the clock until retirement. He gets paid millions to watch people who watch people who watch people who watch people who watch people doing things. He spends zero time getting his hands dirty with managing leaks or giving knowledgeable feedback on software or hardware, or pushing the evolution of the retail space. That was Jobs.

Seeing as how most people leave their phone on silent 99% of the time, this switch could be removed and implemented with software. Not to mention could be tied into focus modes as well and not have to mess with a switch.
I’d really love the old iPad function of being able to use it for rotation lock! That would be far more useful to me than mute (always on).

Whelp, there goes the ability to reset or restart a frozen iPhone. Worse when software glitches around.
Yes, I know this one is for glass panel but I don’t care much about bezels but do care about the ability to restore iPhone to working order.

Three steps instead of one when your phone is locked and no longer able to mute your phone without even looking. What a usability revolution.

What do I get in return? Can I then use the phone underwater for 20 mins more?
More like use it for 20min less under shallower water.

Agreed to this. First I was like everyone else; don’t take my physical mute button away. But when I think about it, I basically have it on mute all the time anyway and an extra swipe to get to the control center is not so bad when you think about it… I think I’m ready for the button to go away. Be brave Apple!

You do know that just because somethings called iconic doesn’t mean that it’s good, right?
The notch *is* iconic, just like the iOS grid of a icons is iconic, just like the Mac dock is iconic, just like the big front and center Apple logo on the back of most of their products is iconic.
You pick up a iPhone with a notch and you know exactly what it is.
Now… if it’s a good thing or not is totally up to personal opinion.
Iconic just basically means that it’s recognizable, which it is. It’s right front and center of every flagship iPhone Apple has made of the past six years, of course it’s iconic.

If you have proof of this, I'll eat my phone. I certainly don't leave it on silent and no one I know with an iPhone does either.
I do. There’s nothing more annoying than a ringtone for me.

I'm waiting to see how this turns out.
If its a disaster, I will just get a iPhone 14 Pro Max either through refurbish site or T-Mobile.

Hope they move the dynamic island up closer to the bezels, the thinner the bezels the less disruption on the screen
Hmm here’s a thought. Ginormous 3/16 inch bezel which contains the camera…then uninterrupted screen.

Yah that's a tough one for me. too. wonder if they do it, get lots of complaints and go back to it in iPhone 17.

I hope its good enough from the start though and will be open-minded about it.
I’m hoping for this too. But I’m honestly not holding out too much hope. Hardware design has almost never walked back. Unless it’s the flat edges of the phone.

There used to be a silent switch on the iPad and now it’s a system setting in control center. I imagine it’ll be going that way soon (or a hybrid during the transition phase away from the button entirely). It’ll be nice for automations and Siri Shortcuts though I’ll admit. It’ll be a tough pill to swallow initially though.

I don't see the haptic buttons happening.

Thin bezels are always welcome.

I want my god damn pixels back that they keep blacking out for DI.
