Remember when Tim Cook said he would put a damper on leaks? We 6 months out and can practically build our own iPhone 15

Personally, I've most given up on faith in the human race when it comes to this kind of thing. It's just too lucrative. In the internet age (the anonymous age), people toss morals right out the window.

I don't see the haptic buttons happening.

Thin bezels are always welcome.

I want my god damn pixels back that they keep blacking out for DI.

So you dislike the Dynamic Island because apps expand it for various reasons, and there goes your screen real estate? Interesting. Isn't the space being used of some value in itself?

I wonder how much money Apple is going to save on not making the physical mute button and mute orange color strip anymore.
It's not for money savings.

Having a hardware mute switch limits flexibility. That's why Android doesn't have it. It has nothing to do with money. Apple likely wants software to be part of the "mute" functionality. And they can't do that until the mute switch becomes something else. A button and maybe some clear haptic feedback (one buzz after press means you are muted, two buzzes after press means you are unmuted) could provide *almost* as good a tactile experience while allowing Apple to do something like unmute after x-amount of time automatically. Something they can't do today.

Remember how Steve Jobs came out with a phone that had almost no buttons because then you just have a screen and you can have endless flexibility in the interface via software? Yeah. Same concept. The mute switch is a single purpose input that displays its state mechanically (you see that the mute switch is on because it is physically in a different position vs by displaying a different state digitally in the UI). It is the antithesis to what the iPhone stands for. It just hasn't been changed because everyone got used to it. I'm surprised it's taken this long honestly. I'm sure internally Apple has wanted it gone for much longer.

Every new leak I’m reminded how they were going to double down, and then again identify those who leaked.

Thing is, I feel like it’s not anyone directly at Apple, but a close supplier contact. Doesn’t seem like they can do much about that.
Yep.
Additionally, Apple fully embraces the rumor mill. Not only do they love the hype it freely generates, they also use it to test the waters when they want to gauge public opinion - like they did with the $3k headset price “leak.”

At this point hardware leaks are both inevitable and pretty uninteresting. Most of the interesting new features we are seeing in recent years are mostly software, where the secrecy is maintained very well.

Honest question.

How much thinner can they get? wow.

And what happens if they come out with a fold version? thicker bezels again I would bet.
I suppose the logical conclusion of all this bezel-diminishing will be a completely bezel-less sphere (all screen). (That convneniently squashes flat.)

Still using iPhone mini. I don’t want or need a miniature iPad to make calls and read messages/emails.
Still using the Max here and loving it. I do not need a miniature display to do my internet browsing, watching videos on Netflix and YouTube, editing photos, banking, and pretty much all the internet things people do now days. I used to hate large displays but once using the Pro Max (it was called Plus then) can't go back to miniature sizes. I think the era of miniature phones is over.

yeah, I just can’t go back to anything small honestly lol.

larger iPhone, iPad and Mac. I want to see more on my displays, not less.

I remember a great time when the newest technology and manufacturing standards where accessible to everyone for the same price at the same time.
Absolutely. But people does not want to get sth that their neighbors has too. They want to have something different and expensive in order to feel superiority, although they aren’t.

Probably Apple will release an “stellar” iPhone (stellar in specs and price) just to satisfy that target, and making feel the others as poor because their $800 iPhone is not enough.

ps; maybe people’s mind is changing, just have to see iPhone 14 sales…

it's good that we know enough can build our own iPhone 15! That's the whole point of the rumor mill/Macrumors, and rumors actually hype us up for the new product (instead of dampening the surprise)

i dream of a world where the front and back covers are only changed every 5 years. Together with the hw design of the iP14 (not the Pro), this would lead to a high repairability score.

Smartphones are finished thought and designed. My iP11Pro still doesn't feel outdated today and a change is probably not due until generation 15 or 16.

Additionally, I will opt for an iP15. The Pro version is simply too expensive and the price-performance ratio no longer fits. In addition, you have to accept an enormous bulge for the "pro" camera.

Apple is still a one trick pony, it has only the iP as a cash cow. But this feels like riding a dead horse. Apple needs new products and Tim wasn't the guy to create new products.

I guess we're back to the curved edge models, similar to the X, XS and 11 Pro?
Add 6, 6S, 7, 8, SE 2, SE 3 to that list as Apple LOVE to reuse everything until it makes your eyes bleed.

Anyway, this is different because the sides will still be flat but the edges will curve, very much like current Galaxy devices.

either way, anything will be better than the stupid Sharpe edges we have right now but just a shame the camera bump is still ugly, unchanged since 11 Pro and fat.

The average person isn't going to notice a difference. When you're focusing on the active display area, you're not looking at the sides.
many people hold onto their phones for years. If someone is used to looking at an iphone X or 11, then sees a 15 pro side by side, there is a noticeable difference.

At times my 11 does feel like it has crazy large bezels. But also I don't really care.
Unless the camera is flippin' amazing and has a periscope lens, I'm holding out.

I think removing a physical button (and indicator of state) would be a mistake. This is more of a human nature thing than technological thing, but one function that many of us do several times a day is quick-glance to check if the iPhone is muted because of where we might be at that point in time, often followed by changing that state in the blink of an eye.

Having to take more than a microsecond to check for that would be a step backward, and would be just another example of one thing I sincerely think Apple gets wrong sometimes: “simplifying” an oft-used feature to take significantly more thought or time or steps than it used to take in the past.

Even if the “significant” increase is three seconds, it’s very noticeable when it used to be near-instantaneous and took very little thought to execute.

While the iPhone 15 lineup is still around six months away, front glass panels for the devices were allegedly leaked today in a pair of videos shared on Chinese websites Bilibili and Douyin. The videos were later posted to Twitter by ShrimpApplePro and Unknownz21.

As previously rumored, the videos appear to confirm that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature even thinner bezels around the display compared to the previous generation, but the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus bezels do not appear to have any noticeable changes. The bezels on all four iPhone 15 models are also expected to be slightly curved around the edges, similar to the iPhone 11 series.

The videos also appear to confirm that the Dynamic Island will be expanded to all four iPhone 15 models, marking the end of the notch on Apple's higher-end iPhones. The Dynamic Island is currently limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

ShrimpApplePro said they were able to confirm with a source that the front glass panels are authentic parts for the iPhone 15 lineup.

With even thinner bezels around the display, the iPhone 15 Pro models could have a similar appearance as the Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 8. Rumors suggest the Pro models will also feature a titanium frame instead of stainless steel, and solid-state volume, mute, and power buttons that do not physically move when pressed.

Apple is expected to announce its next iPhone lineup in September as usual. For the latest rumors, read our iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro roundups.

Dynamic island is cancer of the display. My next phone may NOT be an iPhone. The notch technology would have progressed so far by now that it would be so tiny at the top of the display. But no we get a huge chunk out of our display. And a camera bump that will soon make our phone effective chock blocks for busses making it an effective parking brake.
