I dunno. Just don’t get the hype over thin bezels. I know many here would disagree but I would gladly trade an additional 3mm top bezel for the stupid notch (in my phone) or island inside the display.

“The symmetrical bezel looks great! It’s practically art!” - I spend exactly zero time looking at my ”object d’art” unless I’m actually using it. It’s usually in my pocket.

And as others have said, it’s slippery AF without a case so mine is in a case anyway. That, BTW, also helps with the other issue I have encountered: occasional missed or misread taps/gestures because one of my fingers is making contact elsewhere on the screen.

Is this even a thing anymore? I mean the existing bezels are good....
Soon the phone will be all disaply and we won't be able hold it without having false touches on the screen.
I’ve already experienced this with my 11 Pro Max when using without a case. Can’t imagine it’s not an issue with the newer, thinner models. It’s slippery so I make sure I have a good grip on it, and next thing I know I get false or inaccurate touches.

Yeah, I know . . . “You’re holding it wrong” ;)

A smaller bevel is worse, not better.

iPhones are virtually impossible to use without a case. The cameras protrude such that if you set them down on a desk, the phone is literally resting on the fragile camera lens. And the phones are so slippery that you're at great risk of dropping them. And they're so fragile that dropping them without a case will surely break it. And they're so expensive that you really don't want to do that.

Given that a case is a necessity, a smaller bevel is bad, not good. On my iPhone 14 Pro, the bevel is already small enough that it's hard to touch things on the very edge with my case on. Sometimes you have things like the A..Z on the right side of the Contacts app that require touching that edge, and it's already too hard. So to a smaller bevel, I say, "boooooo!"

I have zero desire for less bezels. It only means that the case will be even uglier and will have a harder time protecting the phone.
The iPhone has never been possible to use without a case, it has always been slippery like a soap. Now, more or less totally made from glass and a pricetag above a good laptop, they are soon way too fragile and way too expensive to actually use day-to-day.
I don't need a rugged phone looking all "tactical", but ffs, make them have some impact areas and able to take some abuse.
The 3G/3Gs were great, the screen was pretty well protected from drops, and the plastic case made it somewhat less slippery.
That's just silly, here's a list of all the iPhones I have personally owned and used without a case and without any problems.

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5
iPhone 5S
iPhone 6
iPhone 6S
iPhone 7
iPhone X
iPhone 12 Pro
iPhone 14 Pro

I didn't find any of them to be slippery or particularly fragile. Although obviously not indestructable by any means, I have often been amazed by the drops they have been able to withstand.

I think teh dynamic island has a lot of potential, especially if more apps take advantage of it and we can get rid of some of those big notifications.
Anything that is possible to do in the display portions of the “dynamic island” is also doable in a display without a notch or island cutout. The addition of notches and cutouts in the name of “style” and symmetry is a great example of prioritizing form way over function. Using pixels in the island for something to make it “cool” will not change that.

Finding new and better ways of handling notifications, as you point out, is a perfectly legitimate (and useful IMHO) thing to explore, but nothing about the irregular screen shapes makes that any easier.

And then you just carefully put that meticulously created record breaking phone in a case and completely ruin the record.
This meticulously created phone is meticulously created to be put in a case. You almost can't even use them now without one. They are too thin and too heavy. It makes them extremely awkward to a hold. A chonky case not only protects the $1000+ device, but balances it out and makes it much more comfortable to actually hold.

I am into thin bezels - not sure that'll make me upgrade.
But up to now I always have in the end.

Actually in 2002 I had an IBM T30 with zero bezels and a beautiful 4:3 1400:1050 IPS display.
Still think fondly of that machine (was starting my own company - so not nutpickers were
controlling any budgets and I was maxing out specs wherever possible)

Need to try to compensate for the largest and most intrusive “notch” in ALL phones. In the history.
“Our iPhone with the wost design yet… and because you are a mindless drone now, you will “love-hate-meehhh” it” (I have a 14 pro Max).

The 15 looks like a significant upgrade over my 12 pro. I can’t wait I’m moving up to the promax as well.

The cult of thin bezel will love this news.

We are eating, dancing, and chanting nonstop since this news broke.
