I mean, how MANY cat pictures can I put on my phone. Hint, I have over 100 right now.

So damn cute.
Only 100?
Amateur!
😻

Edit: Just out of interest I went and searched my Photos library…
Yikes!

1,143 out of 42,562 photos total… I need professional help, I think.

I hope they do. By discontinuing Photo Stream and encouraging people to use iCloud Photo for backup, their current 2 tb limit can get eaten up pretty quickly.

If you subscribe to apple one, you can sign up for additional icloud storage for up to 4tb. That’s apple’s answer anyway. As a bonus you get tv+ so the tv app will only show you popup ads for mls and mlb!

Unfortunately Apple One is not available everywhere.
I can't subscribe to Apple One so for me 2Tb is the maximum available right now.

I feel like this is one of several things Apple has figured out from the revenue side and has not thought about the user experience. Frustratingly common since they started chasing that services money.

You're definitely right about this…

This is pure revenue greed from Apple.

To paraphrase Balmer:
"Services! Services! Services! Services! Services! Services! Services! Services! Services! Services!…"

Considering the slowing of iPhone (and all smartphone) sales, I have a feeling that price increases are NOT going to happen, and if they do, the increase will be minimal- like a base Pro going from $999 to $1049, and the Max going to $1149 from $1099.

The last thing Apple wants to do is turn off potential upgraders with higher prices.

Of course, another scenario is the introduction of some sort of leasing program- similar to iPhone upgrade, but with lower monthly payments. I read rumors of that months ago, but haven't seen anything recently.
It's not really a price increase but rather a base change. If they come out with a 128GB model and the price goes up then that is a price increase. The 256 model was already 1099 so technically it's not a price increase if they make that the base. It's still the same price it's always been.

I do see phone sells slowing down though as a slight processor jump and camera jump isn't enough to get people to upgrade except for the the true faithful. Phones have got to the point that 2 yr old phone still functions just as good as it did they day you bought it

I find it funny how a lot say just use iCloud storage, I'm sorry but that's not a replacement for physical local storage and until the entire planet has 100% high speed coverage it never will be. It's great for backing up but if you are go through an area that has zero coverage or your inside a well insulated building then your precious iCloud solution is 100% usless, no photos, videos or music for you.

And then there is the battery life, if your constantly downloading/uploading data particularly over cellular then your battery is going to drain incredibly quickly and your phone will be running pretty hot. And looking at how much the OS is taking, for iOS 17 B4 it's using 11GB just for itself on my 14PM so that's a nice chunk of storage gone from say a 128GB iPhone, plus apps keep getting bigger, photos and videos are taking more space as time goes on.

You say what the hell are some of us doing with a 512GB or 1TB iPhone currently but you only need to go back a short time ago when a 32GB iPhone was a lot of storage, time moves on and so does our storage needs.

I’m happy with the diversity regarding Apple’s current storage options. Physical or iCloud or both at the same time. I really like it. Personally I prefer physical storage, because I’m very much into safeguarding my privacy.
Privacy over the safety of your pictures if something happened to your house?

Would make sense to spice up the lineup a little bit with a 2 TB option, because so far there's not a lot to be excited about.

Give us "pro" features for a Pro phone. I can't even directly upload videos to YT from within the phone's OS. I can't automate system level features like when and how my VPN connects based on wifi network or geolocation. Android has had this for a decade +.

is this to justify the price increases wow

Not necessarily. These are all just rumors about potential storage increases, larger top end storage, and price increases in the U.S. in USD. Given that there have never been price increases on Pro and Pro Max models in the U.S. since they launched in 2019, there are other things (besides storage) that could potentially justify a price increase in the U.S. this year.

However, even if there are U.S. price increases this year (for whatever reasons), that doesn't necessarily mean there will be price increases outside the U.S. as a lot can depend on exchange rates at time of launch.

I don't like iCloud for it either has the original and your phone has the smaller resolution/file size version or vice versa... Never upload as is... Google Photos can be unlimited only if you go with their recommended file size/resolution but if you decide to go the original file, then you will exceed the 15GB free storage of your Google account and you will have to pay extra for it...

I have both paid Google Drive and OneDrive but only to share files with others and not as backup solution...

If you are referring to a possible fire incident, a smartphone is one of the easiest things to bring with you... If theft happened, then there's local backup... Not hoping to have both happen at the same time...
