sry but Alzheimer's is more important than a switch then
Just take your phone out, and place it on silent...or, keep it in your pocket and hard press it, if it vibrates, then its on silent...if not, press it again...thats it...My god.....meeting a multi-million project...situation on the same level with "silent the iphone without looking at it"
So people in that meeting must have iphones, because a lot of android phones doesnt have the mechanical switch :)

Nah, remembering the project details so you can earn your next million dollars is more important.

At the end of the day, a switch is easier than a programmable button.

Simple as that.

Even so potential 15 Pro buyers are still getting USB-C, better battery life courtesy of the more efficient A17 and of course a new maroon color. Personally, I like blue or purple, but maroon might be the ticket for some. If you get the Pro Max, you also get a periscope lens. What more can you ask for? If you want the smaller Pro model and a periscope lens, you can wait one more year if your current iPhone is still running well. Maybe a noticeable design change will occur next year as well so the wait might be worth it.

Mark my words and Watch. This Mute Button will end up like a Magic Mouse Charging situation.

YayArea you know we love you...but this isn't even close. Changing the mute switch to a mute button that can be programmed to serve a different function isn't the same as putting the charging port on the bottom of a mouse making the mouse bluetooth only and unusable while charging. You still have a mute button at the end of the day.

If you wanna cope about losing the mute switch that's fine. I'm still coping about losing the headphone jack (seriously Apple it never should've been cut)

Have you tried using the Action Button on Apple Watch Ultra? Yeah, it looks nice and fancy but it defeats the purpose of getting the job done. It is too sensitive and fragile to the skin whereas the current iPhone's mute button is durable and satisfying.
Can you be more specific. The only problem I have is when I flex my wrist occasionally it triggers when I do not mean it to. But otherwise it seems to work great as intended.

That can still happen with the mute switch though. There are many times the mute switch on my iPhone 13 Pro was switched on in my pocket because it got caught on the fabric.

So I fail to see the issue with the Action Button, especially when accidental button presses of the side buttons are a lot lower.
Not sure how but you wouldn't have that problem with iPhone 14 Pro, LOL. :D

I never switch mute off so I am down for getting a camera button or a quick launch for whatever time waster I am playing this week.

Move mute into Control Center and call it a day.
Same. My phone is muted 100% of the time. The switch is completely useless for me.

Because you don't know what mode you're in before touching the button.

Are you already in silent mode? If you already are, then pressing it gets you to regular mode. A switch with a red line doesn't have this ambiguity.

You have to pick up the phone and turn it a bit to even see that red line...
Would be much easier to just show a symbol on the Lockscreen... (or AlwaysOn Screen)

This feels like one of those "it has always been this way, why change it" situations.

Making it a button, allows it to be automated. (based on location, time, meetings, focus mode etc.)

Or brilliant, a mute switch that is all too easy to accidentally activate now, will be even easier to accidentally activate with a button .

Why not just remove the mute switch/mute button, and instead move the mute feature into the Control Panel. At least in there it is not going to be accidentally activated.

The same crying i hear around cars that swap AC buttons into a touch screen buttons...and i have to say...i use to change something to the AC twice per year...i mean come on.... Or those people who are complaining are having manual AC...or they dont have a car
Perhaps true if you are the only one driving your car. My car is being used by my whole family, with everyone having their own preference.

The mute button is a relic and to be honest, I don't find any of the problems you mention on the action button

yea, i bet you said about the mechanical "home button" the same thing...was the thing that made Apple, Apple
People adapts, we are not here to stay in the past
You bet incorrectly. Never felt that way about the home button. Kind of need to see your screen when you push that button, that’s the whole purpose of it… to go… home. Not so with the the mute and setting silent/ring modes.

jfc this constant back and forth about buttons really is something..... idk, even if the buttons do change, all of the other suggested rumors sound "meh".... hardly finding much exciting about the 15 based on these rumors. I guess we shall see

Even at the moment, the phone shows a message whether the ringer is on or off!
Much a do about nothing really 🤣
