Currently have an iPhone 13. The contract is for 2 years but I always try to make my phone last 3 years if possible - So unless there are some earth shattering features, I’ll wait until the 2024.

Am more interested in the OLED iPad Pro

My first Apple the Apple II came with 4K of RAM which I had upgraded to 16K and they wanted to know why I wanted so much RAM
When my dad asked why I wanted to get a 128k upgrade on our //e I said something about playing with RAM disks to see how it affected software performance and then mumbled "but really, for the colors in the games".

3.7GHz in your pocket is amazing to me. For college, I remember my 40lbs tower from "Gateway" 😂 had a 1.0Ghz Intel Core Duo. Probably required the power of small city to run.
My graduate school G3 Powerbook weighed 8 pounds and ran at 292Mhz. It was so big, my classmates said it looked like I was carrying a turtle in my backpack.

And yet...I thought I was bleeding edge.

It’s amazing what we take for granted. I remember when I was happy to have a desktop computer with 1GB RAM. Now we have a device with 6GB RAM that fits inside your pocket and people are complaining?
Welcome to MacRumors - there is no spec (nor any price point) that doesn't incite dozens of complaints.

Apple could invent clean, sustainable nuclear fusion and give it away for free...and someone on this site will come along and complain that customers in Switzerland have to wait an extra 6 months during the global rollout.

So I just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Uhhh if they really don't have 8GB of RAM, I might just wait until next year. Flagship Android phones have 8+ GB, it's not some crazy amount, it's a big deal for multitasking even if you don't care about high-res textures in games or whatever.
if they put 8 gigs in a phone and still ship their main computers with 8 gigs I’d be pretty pissed.

Nah, we just weren't expecting Apple to offer the same 6GB for four years in a row. That's never happened before.

I would prefer something more like modes instead of just focus. I would love to have "dumb phone" mode, gaming mode, workout mode, etc. For the modes I would like to see bigger icons, a grayscale but more of a grayscale than we can do with a color palette change - more like a liquid Crystal / paper look. I am able to do some of this with focus but not everything I would like.

While I dont discredit the source. This could be the first time Apple offers RAM+Storage Solution. For example.

  • 6GB RAM on models with 256GB, or 512GB storage
  • 8GB RAM on models with 1TB or 2TB storage

The iPhone now follows the same rules as iPad Pro and Macs
This will suck, because people will be forced to pay extra for the strorage (and may be they don't need - like me), just to get more RAM.

Watch the outcry - “only” 6GB of RAM
I think its because Apple charges top dollar and gives us less for the Apple experience?
The ram is less of a problem to me and probably most but doing things like limiting the
lightning port to Usb 2, and slowly releasing camera upgrades that androids have had
for years. I love all things apple and buy all of my Apple stuff used.

I'm guessing that you are just talking about the phones. Apple has had the same base RAM on MacBooks for quite some time. And despite the complaints on this site, the vast majority of users are fine with 8GB (full disclosure, I'm writing this on a MBP with 96 GB of RAM).

That said, I'd love to see Apple at least offer a higher RAM option on both the iPhones and iPads for those whose "pro" workflows could really use it. I mean, we aren't talking about dozens of new SKUs...just a few would be nice.

I could see that happening if Apple bifurcated the features and allowed 8K (if that is a feature) only on 1TB+ models. But it still seems like a cheap move given we're talking 2GB of RAM. And it's not as if 256 and 512GB can't handle 8K.

Not unlike buying a car...to get all the features you want, you often pay for features you'll never use. To make every feature customizable would be a supply chain nightmare.

Look at how few iPad SKUs Apple has...and some distributors (Woot) are still selling brand new 2021 M1 iPad Pros...such as featured on a recent article on MacRumors. In fact, I just bought one.

Not a big deal when you have Apple's margins...but that would be problematic for many other companies.

I'm really tired of apps getting kicked out of memory every time I open the camera app. This is probably the biggest reason to increase RAM. Apple needs to stop cheaping out in the name of higher profits - they already have the highest margins in the industry by far, with plenty of room for additional RAM while still leading the industry in profit. But they won't.

Agreed; the Camera app sucks down RAM. Open the camera and a few apps are likely to be tossed.

Damn shame; I'll be skipping the iPhone 15 generation likely. It could also be differentiated with screen sizes again

iPhone 15 Pro: 6GB
iPhone 15 Pro Max: 8GB?

IIRC, happened with the iPhone 8:

iPhone 8: 2GB RAM
iPhone 8 Plus: 3GB RAM

I can’t be the only one who wishes Apple would focus on doubling battery life instead of big performance increases. I haven’t even noticed a difference in CPU speed for a couple of generations now.

Yeah, that 3.70 GHz clock speed is not good to see.

Apple YoY clock speed increases are getting larger per year (excluding the big A14 jump), when I'd much prefer having battery life:

A10: 2.34 GHz
A11: 2.39 GHz (+50 MHz; +2.1%)
A12: 2.49 GHz (+100 MHz; +4.2%)
A13: 2.65 GHz (+160 MHz; +6.4%)
A14: 3.09 GHz (+440 MHz; +16.6%)
A15: 3.24 GHz (+150 MHz; +4.9%)
A16: 3.46 GHz (+220 MHz; +6.8%)
A17: 3.70 GHz (+240 MHz; +6.9%)

Does that mean the A17 architectural improvements did not pan out? :( Why else make a seemingly unnecessary GHz bump? I don't think the iPhone 15 Pro does anything spectacularly more intensive than an iPhone 14 Pro.
