It's dead. I share your grief but it's time to let go. RIP.
Even minis get bigger.

Okay then, please share with the rest of the class what your ingenious design ideas are for a rectangle. There are only so many ways to craft a candy bar made of metal and glass before you stagnate or repeat past designs.
No need to defend a multi-billion dollar company. While it's true that it's basically a rectangle, you can do a lot with the contours, the materials, the back. From the very first iPhone to roughly iPhone 12, they changed the design roughly every 2 years.

All models were a rectangle, and yet they managed to give the iPhone a new look bi-annually.

It's pretty obvious that since iPhone 12, the design has barely changed. I'd guess because they do that so they don't have to make big changes to their manufacturing lines, which in return is good for margins.

Already have 15 Pro Max after selling my 12 Pro Max, there is a self moratorium on upgrade until iPhone 19 Pro Max or 20 Pro Max or iFold Devices if it makes sense.

As someone who likes to upgrade every year, I dunno about this one. My 15 Pro Max is a fantastic phone, does everything I can ask and it's a great color (Titanium Blue). The bigger screens are nice I suppose but that's like the only selling point I can find that interests me and I'm not sure that's going to be enough. The 17 series is rumored to have a lot going on and seems like a much more significant upgrade and since I like my 15PM so much I'm leaning towards staying on that and waiting it out until next year.

That's a lot to look forward to. Just going to wait and see what will be revealed during the Apple event next month. As of now, I'm on the fence about upgrading because I was loving my 13 Pro and for some reason was having issues with it and took it to the Apple Store and has to get it replaced with the 14 Pro which I'm not a fan of. I feel iike that I have to play with the camera settings to get it to take the photos they way I want it to. Just a mess. Just going to wait and see.

I'm bewildered at Apple's decision to keep the 16 Pro at 8GB of RAM. If we are to believe that 8GB is the bare minimum needed to run Apple Intelligence, why keep the flagship iPhones at the bare minimum? Even if improvements to the neural engine and other chips will help with AI processing, why hold things back with RAM? I can't believe in 2024 that Apple hasn't moved to 12GB and 16GB RAM.

I wonder why Apple doesn’t just release a new iPhone every 2 years. I can’t think of another Apple product on a yearly upgrade timetable. At this point I’m sure the vast majority of users will keep their phones for a min. of 2 years. The yearly release has become meaningless and engenders disappointment.

Because iPhone revenue for just the 3rd quarter, was $39B.

Am keeping my Pro Max 14.

The two most important features in my book are not there yet:

1) lighter (my 14 PM is a brick in every way)
2) new form factor, hopefully less of a brick, slimmer

I still expect great battery life. That cannot go backwards.

All other features (better processor, camera, blah blah blah, well, they are expected).

If the 17 will meet these requirements, I will upgrade.

The 15 PM is already lighter feeling than the 14 PM to the extreme. On paper not by much, but try them side by side and it’s so light in comparison.

Lookin hard for a reason to upgrade from a12MAX…

Really see no reason to upgrade.

And I’m starting to wish for a law limiting advancements in telephone camera technology 😂
No reason to upgrade? From a 12 Pro Max? Bruh there must be at least 50 new features and enhancements between that and the 16 Pro. I can see not wanting to upgrade yearly but maybe only doing it every presidential election year is not often enough either.

Exactly the candy bar design is pretty much obsolete, hence why flip/foldables are the logical solution alongside the candy bar phones.
So a candy bar that folds then? Still doesn’t change the primary form factor of being a square shape of metal and glass.

Well they’re really a multi-trillion dollar company but in any case I’m not necessarily defending them so much as I’m saying the whole industry is basically this way now because the smartphone in general is a mature product category. A “new look” is different than a radically new design which is what the original comment was complaining about. If looking new is all you care about then technically they do that every year with changing the screen, new color options, etc.
