Zero crashes or problems on my 16 Pro. I transferred directly from my 13 Pro when setting it up.16 pro here, no probs, this was a fresh config, not restored from an iCloud Backup, so maybe that’s why
I’ve never set up my new iPhones as new. I always restore from iCloud or directly from the old phone. I’ve also never had any issues. That is what I always do when I get a phone. Or major upgrade. And yup I have no issues.
Apple needs to lay off these massive software and hardware updates every year. Each year it gets worse and worse. This year has been the worst cycle of software in Apples history. Bricked iPads and Apple Watches. Selling phones using commercials on features that aren’t even out yet and won’t be for months (Apple Intelligence). All of this reeks of desperation to keep shareholders happy while trying to hoodwink the public.
Its embarrassing and I think all of us should expect more from a 3 Trillion dollar company.
There appears to be a bug with some iPhone 16 models that is causing random restarts, according to complaints on Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and the Apple Support Communities. Affected users are seeing their iPhones freeze unexpectedly and then reboot.
![]()
Reports about the issue have been ongoing since the iPhone 16 models first launched in September, and have continued to this week. The iOS 18.0.1 and iOS 18.1 updates do not fix the issue, as it has continued to happen to users even after installing the latest software.
The problem seems to pop up randomly. The display will stop responding or will be very slow to respond to touch input, and then the iPhone will do a quick restart. There have also been reports of the iPhone restarting unexpectedly when in StandBy mode.
Some users who contacted Apple shortly after the new iPhones launched were able to get replacement devices, but have had the issue reoccur. Almost all of the complaints are about the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max, so it may only be the Pro models that are impacted.
For most people, the issue is sporadic, but some users have seen 10 to 20 crashes per day. In some cases, doing a fresh install and not reinstalling from an iCloud Backup seems to have fixed the problem, so it is possible that this is a bug related to iCloud.

::stares in leopard::That presumed the software was feature complete at launch. That isn't the case here as Apple basically released Alpha software to the public. This version of iOS wont even be in beta state until sometime next year when its feature complete. Best advice is to stay on iOS 17 and sit this hot mess out. Not helpful I know for new buyers of iPhone 16 but could be implemented by Apple, but marketing would have a meltdown. Reality is this bug fest will continue for quite a while to come and iPhone 16 owners are saddled with it. All because Apple couldn't just say they won't be ready for AI for another twelve to eighteen months and taken the financial hit to their share price.

Yeah I’ve been on-board with that for years. They should update apps one by one. Not have to wait for bug fixes for months or even a year till the next major release. It’s stupid.Or do them more often. And hire more software jockeys. And somehow compartmentalise the various functions modules so you can update incrementally, somehow. Like JUST camera…not a 3.6GB update.
Me tooExactly the same thing happened to me. I did the diagnosis, everything is fine. But just like you, I have a panic log.
Early should not be an excuse for poor quality. RTM means ready for public use. If it is not ready then call it beta or preview. No apps should be able to crash the OS no matter how poorly it is made. It should be all sandboxed and crash the app but the OS should not hang or blue screen. (edit: forgot a word)I suspect that besides iOS 18 being very early in its release cycle, a lot of apps are buggy on iOS 18 as well on this iPhone.
True, but this happens every year. It is what it is.Early should be an excuse for poor quality. RTM means ready for public use. If it is not ready then call it beta or preview. In regards to Apple Intelligence it would be in Alpha, but bugs and reliability are usually tested during beta. Features can be released in update cycles after the software is released, but bugs and reliability would issues would indicate that the software should still be in beta.Beta means feature complete. iOS 18 is Alpha.
Matty, you have a defective camera module. I had my phone replaced. I made an appt with at the Genius Bar and swapped out the phone. Don't do the beta because they may attribute the behavior to that. When the camera app crashed, it must trigger a series of errors because after a while my phone would reboot. Poor quality control, Apple. Its almost an every day occurrence with some type of respring. As soon as I open the camera app the entire phone malfunctions. Considering trying out the beta now

With this new phone, my phone no longer crashes when I open up the camera app or try to take a picture. However, I do have the intermittent freezing (although it has not rebooted) like the entire OS "stalls". I also have the wireless charging issue and the intermittent warming up issue. Very frustrating. I suspect it is software although I wonder if it also may be due to defective hardware if only some people are experiencing it. Of course, we all use our phones differently.
I am fearing what will happen with 18.1. Imagine making a more dramatic overhaul to the iOS on top of these more "fundamental" quality control issues.
It is too early for refurbished iPhones, which is why I would encourage people to do exchanges now if you are having problems.I agree, the frequent camera crash brings nothing good to the system.
Did they replace the defective one with a new sealed iPhone?

It was actually running 18.0, so the first thing the phone had to do was upgrade to 18.0.1. I was initially hopeful 18.0.1 would have fixed the issue, but I rapidly found out that it did not.
