Samsung have been using Ultra for years now. And the AW “Ultra” is just a better spec’d AW, what’s your point?
Is the Watch a diver's Watch? Does it have a depth gauge? Is it designed to take on a "wide range of environments, elevations, and temperatures"?

If this is going to be the new top end iphone, why only 8GB of RAM? Apple Intelligence needs 8GB minimum, so why not make the "ultra" iphone more future proof?

I don’t think that’s true because the iPhone 15 Po and Pro Max do not have 8GB of RAM and yet have Apple Intelligence compatibility.

Edit: Never mind. I forgot the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have 8GB of RAM.

For the same reason an Apple Watch doesn’t hold up for 24 hours on battery live. I always wonder why there is a sleep function in Apple health app for the watch as it always dies on battery life while I sleep 😂😂😂

Come on Timmy… spend a few more pennies on battery life and RAM and make the experience for the customers so much better!

I promise you Timmy you’ll still get enough pennies to count all day 🤑🤑🤑
Timmy did, and he does... My Apple Watch Pro is well over a year old, and runs over 48 hours of non-stop wear, albeit without a ton of radio/compute activity (such as calls and maps). I try to charge it in the early morning hours, and during sit-down meals. My ordinary workflow is weather, texts mail, timers, stopwatch, Siri to take notes and reminders, and controlling media playing from my phone when it's inaccessible in a vehicle or under a coat. I mainly use the Wayfinder face (compass off) always dialed to night-red, plus the Chronograph Pro and GMT.

My phone does the heavy lifting of media playing, navigation and eMail and mobile productivity. Which makes me wonder how robust a 17 Slim could possibly be. There's no getting around energy density, cooling and optics constraints. There aren't any materials or engineering game changers in the pipeline, so I'm sorta wondering, why bother?

If it is priced higher than Pro Max, then expecting the screen size to be at least the same as Pro Max. Not sure whether we will see a costlier iPhone with a smaller display.

Great if the iPhone 17 was the thickness of the last generation iPod Touch

I swear this model gets more and more suspicious the more stuff leaks out about it. It’s smaller, thinner, has less premium materials, probably less hardware and camera possibilities due to the placement, yet it costs more? Literally nothing about this model adds up.

Cost more? We have the same form factors for 5 years now. They all use off the shelf parts available for everyone except their A-series of chips.

So what cost are you taking about? Can’t be that for R&D because Apple already spends less into R&D procent wise than other technology companies.
Developing any model has costs, even with "shelf components". Yes, chips are the same but the motherboard can't be. Nor any other single "component", you basically have to redesign everything for every form factor and it has costs. If you disassemble any two iPhones from the same generation with different sizes, there's basically no two parts you can swap. Drawing, supplying, testing and servicing that at Apple's quality levels is not cheap. That's what I'm talking about.

But, again, it may be a bad choice even if it cost nothing. There are hardcore fans of small form factors but they're a minority. And within that minority, most of them probably just get a bigger new phone when there's no alternative. Only few of them stick to their old tiny phone. Giving everybody an option to buy a cheaper phone makes Apple lose money. I guess they'd lose more by not selling a bigger phone that they'd gain by convincing the minority who absolutely wants a smaller phone to upgrade. And those people surely are less likely to upgrade frequently so I don't see it as a relevant market.
Also consider that the material cost of phones is almost irrelevant. When they sell you a $100 cheaper phone, they are probably saving $10 on components, at best (I'm too lazy to check how accurate this claim is but last time I checked this was close to this). Giving a cheaper option can be really bad.

Please no top center camera. It looks ugly on the pixels.

Also, why is it 2024 and the selfie camera is still so low res.

It would be a game changer if we could get near similar qualities between front and back cameras.

Granted I use Snapchat usually for selfies but still.
I rather like what the Pixel 10 will look like even though the earlier models are not quite as nice looking. It’s at least a differentiator whereas this is potentially the first time in how long, that Apple is gonna try and switch things up look-wise. W

I can count maybe 3 times I’ve used my front camera on any iPhones. I’d pay for the option to remove it for all the good it does me.

The Watch does handle 24hrs, in spite of the official rating when seems pretty conservative and artificial. I wear my watch every night for sleep tracking and then charge up in the morning. My S7 generally has about 25% of charge left. Most nights I also put it into theater mode as I don’t like the screen glowing or coming on as I move around. That saves about another 10%. That is with a workout most days. My previous S4 actually did better on battery.

i do wish that they would give it about 50% more battery just to give it a buffer and because sometimes i forget to charge in the morning and have to charge at the office later.
My Garmin Fenix is so good I forget it has a battery. But then again it’s a serious device for getting fitness things done unlike apples watch. They throw out a wide set of shallow features but it’s not gonna approach the depth of fitness data suunto, Coros and Garmin offer. Not even close.

In 2025, Apple is expected to discontinue the iPhone "Plus" device in its iPhone 17 lineup to make way for an iPhone "Slim" – although it may not actually be called this when it debuts in the fall of next year. Even though the iPhone 16 series launch is still over two months away, when you consider that we learned about larger displays on the iPhone 16 Pro models way back in May 2023, rumors about a two-generations-away iPhone isn't all that unusual so far ahead of time.

While we await this year's iPhone 16 series, here's a compilation of everything we have heard from reputable sources so far about Apple's so-called iPhone 17 "Slim."

iPhone 17 Slim: Rumors So Far
Thinner Design
According to The Information, Apple's all-new iPhone 17 model next year will have a "significantly thinner" design with an aluminum chassis, rather than a titanium casing like Apple's Pro models. The news outlet also claims that the device will feature a narrower Dynamic Island, potentially due to Apple's adoption of a smaller "metalens" for the Face ID system. Internally code-named D23, the device's redesign has been described as a major one equivalent to the iPhone X.

Smaller Display
The first details about the size of the device's display arrived courtesy of Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who said it would be 6.6 inches. However, according to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young, it will feature a 6.55-inch display. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch display. Apple is still said to be testing different designs for the slimmer phone, so the display size could always change between now and the device's launch.

Relocated Cameras
The Information claimed that the iPhone 17 "Slim" will have cameras in locations we haven't seen before on an iPhone. According to a May report, the rear cameras could be moved to the "top center" of the device. Some Android phones like Google's Pixel 8 Pro have rear cameras in a top-center position, but Apple's iPhone camera system has occupied the top-left corner ever since the 2007 model.

Anti-Reflective Coating
All iPhone 17 models will feature an anti-reflective display that is more scratch-resistant than Apple's Ceramic Shield found on iPhone 15 models, according to Chinese Weibo leaker Instant Digital. The outer glass on the iPhone 17 series is said to have a "super-hard anti-reflective layer" that is "more scratch-resistant." It's not clear whether Apple is planning to adopt the Gorilla Glass Armor that Samsung uses in its Galaxy S24 Ultra, but the description of Corning's latest technology matches the rumor.

ProMotion Technology
According to The Elec, all iPhone 17 models will feature OLED displays with low-power backplane technology, bringing ProMotion to Apple's non-Pro iPhone models for the first time. ProMotion allows the display to ramp up to a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and video content when required. ProMotion also allows the display to ramp down to a more power-efficient refresh rate as low as 1Hz, which is why the iPhone 15 Pro screens feature an always-on capability that shows the Lock Screen's clock, widgets, notifications, and wallpaper even when the device is locked.

Improved Selfie Camera
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with a six-element lens. The iPhone 14 and 15 feature a 12-megapixel front-facing camera with five plastic lens elements, and this year's iPhone 16 lineup is expected to feature the same hardware. The upgraded resolution on the iPhone 17 will allow photos to maintain their quality even when cropped or zoomed in, while the larger number of pixels will capture finer details. The upgrade to a six-element lens should also slightly enhance image quality.

Internal Upgrades
Haitong analyst Jeff Pu claims the iPhone 17 "Slim" will feature 8GB of RAM, compared to 6GB of RAM on the iPhone 15 Plus. It's worth noting that all upcoming iPhone 16 models are expected to be fitted with 8GB of RAM – a hardware requirement of on-device Apple Intelligence. According to The Information, the device will also be equipped with Apple's A19 chip.

Higher Price
The Information reported that the slimmer iPhone 17 could have a higher price tag than the Pro Max model, which currently starts at $1,199, suggesting that the device would become the ew highest-end model in the lineup, bettering the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If that's the case, then perhaps the "iPhone Slim" will end up being the "iPhone Ultra" that has been rumored for several years.

Higher price because fake "AI" also subscription for fake "AI" 😂

Just buy a pro model and stop whining. Or buy an android. Seriously bud no one gives a hoot.
I think you misconstrue why they want this- it’s a great feature and it should exist across the entire product line. Not just special boy Pro phones. But Apple is seemingly out of ideas so they artificially gate this sort of stuff like people are rubes. I guess many are. The Android camp copied so much of what made early iPhones captivating, turn about is fair play. iOS 18 (poorly) borrowed the Home Screen arranging of icons by giving flexibility while sadly still using a grid. Why not take some of the camera and screen features too? Seems like they’ve been fresh out of ideas since the 11/12 era

Listen up there buddy. a) clearly some give a hoot given the reactions on my post and the post just after yours, b) you think criticism is out of place on a forum discussing Apple products? Think again, bud.

I'll never understand Apple's obsession with thinner. Personally, I like having something substantial to hold in my hand. I even like the heavyness of my 14 Pro Max. I won't be getting the Slim.
