So.... The Tank. Three days with this case and I ask myself why I hesitated so long to order this thing. When I first saw the announcement by dbrand in my inbox I knew I had to have it. 😂 Well, waiting got me the improved buttons at least.
I totally get why people look at this case and be like "what is this monstrosity", but I absolutely love the futuristic look of it. It looks bulky, but it's not, really. In between the bumps and ridges it's not a very thick case. The grip is excellent and despite its look not at all uncomfortable to hold. The buttons are really really nice, even though they are easy to press. MagSafe means serious business. I'm enjoying this and it might advance to the top of my list after all.

I’d probably have to go up a size in pants to fit that thing in my pocket. Tank is the perfect name for it!

Questions for anyone who’s tried the Flolab Surtect frosted and the Caudabe Synthesis this year:

1. I like the frost on the Surtect, but it’s pretty smooth/slick. I’ve read the Synthesis has a little more texture, is that true?

2. The sides/frame on the Surtect are that rubbery sort of feeling material, I don’t know what you call it. Also pretty slick feeling. I know the Synthesis has the dot grip pattern on the sides for a little more grip, but is the material otherwise the same, or how do they compare?

I always liked the feeling of the plastic on the Otterbox Symmetry, but that case is pretty terrible this year so I’m looking for something somewhat similar. Does the Synthesis material feel at all like that?

Thanks for any help!

I have a regular 17 and got the Surtect for it and like it enough, but I think I might prefer the Synthesis more. I’m planning on getting one when I upgrade to an 18 Pro later this year.

I've never handled the Surtect. The frost on the synthesis has a little texture. It's still a little slippery. The dots on the side help alot. I don't really notice the back because of the side grip. The material is not rubbery, its firm.

This case is tempting, just for the protection and grippage. I can't recall though, isn't this the case that has the ridges on the inside around that plateau that reportedly can scratch the sharp edge of the plateau (I seem to remember some reports on Reddit)? Also, how's the weight? I recall it's somewhere north of 60 grams...

That’s the Grip case. Thankfully the Tank is smooth on the inside.
Weight on the PM is 59g.

Caudabe Open Sheath came in today. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but this thing feels way thinner than the Precise Sheath.
I also noticed that with a glass screen protector on, the front edges are almost flush with it.
I can’t find my Ember 2.5 buttons, so it’s all black for the time being.

Do you feel like top is too squishy with support around camera lens ?

The Tank hater is starting to come around 🤣 Like Ava said, smooth on the inside so no worries about the plateau getting scratched. You will not find a case with better magnets or grip than the Tank.

The silver buttons in the Recon button set would be pure 🔥🔥with the silver phone.

So much better, visually, than the precise version

Received this today. Real thin like Memumi, has MagSafe and metal buttons.

Those MagSafe ones actually have CC button covered. Not sure how well it works. Material is actually slightly thicker or different? than the Memumi.

Oddly the nicest of the bunch is the Beats Dupe and it has CC button uncovered.

I just found this on AliExpress: | 2026 Official Rugged Dotted Matrix Matte Case For iPhone 17 16 15 14 13 12 11 Pro Max For Magsafe Magnetic Cover Fundas

This one won’t fit on phone because of my camera lens protectors but it seems nice too…. I think I’d like it if I could use it; it’s a hard plastic. It doesn’t resemble leather at all; but has a nice texture:

Yeah, now that I have a Butter-Soft™️ Pro Max, my brain has been recalibrated to wanting only highly protective cases. So there’s the Beats Rugged, Mous Limitless, and possibly the Tank. All of the other highly protective cases I’ve seen have one thing or another that makes them unappealing to me (floppy top, too little lip, scratchy internals, etc.).
