will this work on ipod touch?

You haven't read anything in this thread, have you?

When I was downloading the update it seemed to be downloading as a zip and I was like okay because I was reading if it was .ipsw.zip I would just have to remove the .zip. Well it ended up downloading as unzipped and it had to .dmgs.What should I do?

I couldn't wait to get home so I installed iTunes on my Vista computer at work. Update went pretty quick and did NOT offer to back up my data. So, my iphone is now erased but has the new software. Oh well, at least all my stuff is on my Mac at home. Downloaded MotoRacer and wow! I had no idea the iPhone could have such a cool game on it.

So does anyone remember Sir Stevey's exact words on when the iPod touch update would be released?

I get the feeling that it won't be released until after the iPhone is out in the US.

Yes, that's exactly what happened for me. I bought an iPhone off eBay which was ZiPhone unlocked/activated. I used it with both T-Mobile UK and O2 UK SIM cards fine.

After installing 2.0 it did this...
- with T-Mobile SIM in, iTunes said SIM not from valid carrier (or such words)
- with old (not the one that came with the iPhone) O2 SIM it just wanted iTunes username/password for activation.

Now after iTunes activation the O2 SIM works and the T-Mobile one doesn't.

Hope this helps.

So I can use a PAYG UK 02 SIM and it will work without hacking jiggery-pokery?

My iPhone is dead!

My iPhone is dead!
Gutted, tried the update. Downloaded it fine and seemed to be going well with the upgrade then eventually got a message to say it had failed. Now my Iphone just has the connect to iTunes logo. Itunes recognises it is in recovery mode and I try to restore but get the following message:
"The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred 20"
I just can't seem to get it to restore, have tried it on my laptop but get the same message. Can any one help?!

Just to add, I'm in the UK on o2 and my phone has never been jailbroke/unlocked...

worked magically for me :)

just takes awhile
every part of it does. the download, the update, the restore, the sync

but hey, worth the wait :apple:

exchange activesync

so in case people were wondering, exchange connectivity worked flawlessly - love being able to use iphone for work as well as home...

IPhone 2.0 Update

Once I downloaded through Firefox, the process was painless and somewhat shorter than advertised on "Forum". ITunes is now restoring all my music, video, contact and photo files. We'll see how it performs when the restoration is complete.

Any News?

I've got the MobileMe, iPhone 2.0, and iTunes 7.7 updates all working. In fact, I'm playing Monkey Ball right now. But what is the deal with MobileMe? I was dreaming about push e-mail ALL NIGHT!

that's what i was thinking. thanks for confirming!

no worries :) trying to keep karma on my side as I try and apply this update to a PAYG iPhone (some say it works w/o hacking - makes sense as 02 are releasing PAYG iPhone @ Xmas) ;)

Arrrggghhh!!! Me too!

I'm UK, locked to O2 but in Tokyo at the moment - thought that may have something to do with it. Guess not.

I have a previously jailbroken iPhone. I am using the official contract and have restored to 1.1.4. Will the upgrade go ok? Please PM me with an answer.

P.S: I used ZiPhone

The G3 phone will be released "unlocked"in Belgium, does this mean that I can update my iPhone G2 to 2.0 without any risks?

If your 1st-gen iPhone is already legitimately unlocked (i.e. SIM Unlocked through the carrier) then you can do what you like. What does that have to do with 2nd-gen iPhone 3Gs in Belgium?

A note to iPod Touch owners:

1. This update will not work on your Touch (it causes problems upon installation).

2. The update for the Touch will cost $9.95, so it won't be available for free download like the iPhone update is. We'll probably have to wait until later today when the download is live.

I wonder if the new iTouch's will have the new firmware already loaded then?

I did but nothing had been working for me. Now I tried Firefox as someone had just mentioned and its downloading perfectly, I think..

Yeah should work - anyway you're only a software restore away if things go wrong. You canny kill these things, i tell thee!

Probably, but the SIM I'm using is an old (like really old) O2 contract SIM.

The only odd thing I've noticed is that the MSISDN shown in iTunes is my old T-Mobile SIM, not the O2 one I'm using.

I've just tried an O2 PAYG SIM and it doesn't work. Strange. Is iTunes activation tied to a specific SIM?

Perfect! Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated!

This is what we would expect (as the baseband has now been updated and re-SIM-locked). But what is interesting is that O2 must have made some subtle changes:

a) allowing any O2 SIM to be used on the iPhone. I tried this a while back, and I could only use non iPhone O2 SIM if I SIM unlocked.
b) you can legitimately activate iPhones now on O2 with any O2 SIM. Not just their 'iPhone O2 plan' SIMs. Probably to mitigate the problem of iPhone 1st-gen owners not being able to get hold of iPhone 3Gs ;-)

Thanks again. Updating now!
