PUSH E-MAIL WORKING!!!

I let the defaults of Push as the new data method, I walked over to my other computer a few minutes later and was surfing, then I got a few new e-mails, I went back over to the iPhone, and sure enough there were the new e-mails.

I don't know if push is just doing a fetch every couple minutes until its really working, or if its really working..

I do have my .Mac configured on the new .me servers (maybe that's why)

Update:
Just sent another test e-mail, and it is 100% push

anybody having vpn trouble?

We use internal dns servers while on the vpn which are not world accessible. If you move into vpn, everything is reachable by IP... if i manually change to internal DNS and set them static it works fine, but then if i move out of vpn, it does not renew the lease and go back to dhcp assigned.

</grumble>

How is the iTunes remote thing supposed to work? I've installed it, but all I get is a black screen with a PIN code and a message about selecting my iPhone in iTunes???

any idea why neither my updated itunes (7.7) nor the downloaded 2.0 update will work? i tried the opt+ check update button and got the "unknown error 1403" ... i DLed using firefow and it is an .ipsw file...itunes problem is that when i gt to the applications button its a dark screen with only check for update and get more applications... when clicking either it says the store is not currently avaiable...any help?

WORD OF WARNING

I've got an O2 SIM (just a normal O2 SIM, not iPhone O2) that I've had on a contract for six months now. I've just applied the 2.0 firmware, and I was not given the option to activate. I just get a screen that says "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported", and now I can't use the phone.

I'm not sure my situation this is different to the other people who had normal O2 SIMs, but I wouldn't risk it, people.

System restore back to 1.1.4 and use ZiPhone/Pwnage to unlock.

:)

Somebody needs to step this one:

Don't bother changing your Safari settings.
DL from the link.
Dig the .zip file out of the trash if Safari unzipped it. Ignore the unzipped iPhone1,2_2 folder.
Change the file name by deleting ".zip" extension, leaving only the ".ipsw" extension. Only change this. Put it on the desktop for clarity, so you know where it is and what it is. iTunes will unzip the file itself (it calls it "extracting").
Go into iTunes with iPhone connected (sync first), hold down option key, click "check for update".
Standard file dialog appears. Select the .ipsw file.
Away you go. Next you'll butt-park while iPhone prepares for update, then it's got to this special one-time full back-up if you don't want to have to resync all your stuff like after a restore. That will take a bit. Then it will update. That will take a bit. Then it will copy all your data back, and of course if that's bumping 8GB or 16GB, that will take a bit.
So get coffee, smoke 'em if you got 'em, whatever.

Thanks for these instructions. I was able to get everything installed. i wasn't prompted for a backup during the install - but it did restore from a backup once 2.0 was installed. i was worried it was going to "back up" from a different software update, but it was just the data i suppose.

I would normally never do something like that, but hey - it worked! Thanks!

updated mine this morning successfully.

app store is awesome - only gets better from here folks

Yes, that's exactly what happened for me. I bought an iPhone off eBay which was ZiPhone unlocked/activated. I used it with both T-Mobile UK and O2 UK SIM cards fine.

After installing 2.0 it did this...
- with T-Mobile SIM in, iTunes said SIM not from valid carrier (or such words)
- with old (not the one that came with the iPhone) O2 SIM it just wanted iTunes username/password for activation.

Now after iTunes activation the O2 SIM works and the T-Mobile one doesn't.

Hope this helps.

Just one more information would really help: Did your iPhone come from US?

to find out where it comes from just watch on the back of the iPhone box: is there the AT&T or O2 logo?

Firmware upgrade was a snap. Installed Super Monkey Ball and played a few levels then installed the ebay app and checked the two auctions I am bidding on right now. Everything works like a charm. I dropped .mac a year ago but I think I will sign up for mobile me which appears to actually be worth the money.

Only weird thing - i don't have the Nike + option in my preferences like was listed on the homepage here. Anyone????

Just a couple quick notes for those getting the update error (this could all be in this thread somewhere, but wanted to post my experience in case it helps):

1. iTunes auto update will tell you itunes 7.6 is up to date. You MUST go download 7.7 from apple.com

2. Download the ipsw file, rename the extension to zip/rar and try to extract it. If it extracts fine, you know the fw file you downloaded is fine and proceed using your ipsw.

I tried to install with iTunes 7.6 and got the error.

Did you originally unlock your iPhone with Ziphone?

ATT: " iPhone 2.0 software, July 11th"

I currently have an original iPhone and love it. Is there anything new available?
On July 11, iPhone 2.0 software will be available as a free download from iTunes. With support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, iPhone delivers push email, calendar, and contacts. And it uses enterprise-grade networking with Cisco IPSec VPN and WPA2 Enterprise support. So now the most revolutionary mobile device ever is also the ideal phone for business.

iPod Touch owners are screwed until tomorrow. Also I tried to install the link provided and it doesn't work as noted before on here. if you try to install it you'll have to restore and it WILL NOT install your Jan. software update!!
