Dead iPhone

Arrrggghhh!!! Me too!

I'm UK, locked to O2 but in Tokyo at the moment - thought that may have something to do with it. Guess not.

No,looks just like we have been unlucky. I'm in Cumbria in England...
I'm gutted, been looking forward to playing with the new features. My only guess is that iTunes is automatically downloading the current 1.1.4 firmware and trying to install that. Maybe the iPhone is stopping a lower version being installed? It might be okay once the firmware is released officially.

Other than that, does anyone have any tips or tricks?!

Probably, but the SIM I'm using is an old (like really old) O2 contract SIM.

The only odd thing I've noticed is that the MSISDN shown in iTunes is my old T-Mobile SIM, not the O2 one I'm using.

I've just tried an O2 PAYG SIM and it doesn't work. Strange. Is iTunes activation tied to a specific SIM?

so tempted to try this on my jailbroken iPhone, even though I am aware of the consequences..... It will no longer be unlocked but maybe my PAYG SIM would work as thats the only one i ever used in it.

Ditto on the error....

I tried updating but after iTunes extracted the firmware from the zip, it said "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (5)". I'm going to keep messing around...

Tried the same thing, with the same results. My iPhone was bricked for a minute, before I just pressed 'Restore' in iTunes which magically is returning me to 1.1.4... so trying, at least, didn't seem to do any lasting damage.

I'm wondering why its working for some and not others. My iPhone was purchased last December, and I'm trying the update on 10.5.4. Are people that are getting this to work doing it in Windows?

T

Update: Was a total idiot, thought that I'd updated to iTunes 7.7 before, but apparently, I just updated QuickTime but not iTunes. The update made it work, and I'm now slowly restoring songs to my new 2.0 iPhone (wishing that it was as fast as my old, FireWire based iPod 3G.

Hmmm, I can't get on Facebook or AIM. AIM says there is no internet connection... but I can browse webpages and receive email. And Facebook just sits there... AppStore won't install, says can't establish a secure connection...

Now, here's the catch. I'm in Japan with my US ATT iPhone. Think that's why, or do you think it's the internet connection here being proxied/firewalled out.

ARN -

Thanks to you, and all of the others, who jumped on this so quickly and are making "Christmas Eve" an even better experience for those of us upgrading tomorrow to 3g. In fact, if it weren't for more space (16gb) and better audio quality, those of us in non-3g areas would probably have no reason to upgrade yet.

Email crashing problem after 2.0 update.

I did this update and everything worked fine EXCEPT my mail ap now opens for a second and then crashes. I know in previous updates this was related to some permissions bug. And this happend to me before but I was able to fix it once the phone was jail broken. Does anyone know how I can fix this on the 2.0 update since it can't be jail broken right now?

Thanks....

Can this update only be done with a mac computer? I am using vista and it keeps erroring so i have to restore it.

Help!

I tried the update and it faild, had to restore my iphone but when i click restore, all it says is unknown error has occured (20) and i have the USB/ iTunes logo on iphone. Anyone know why or how to fix this???

I'm as up-to-date as can be on a 15.4" 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo MBP running Leopard.

Tried restarting iTunes, the computer itself and the iPhone but to no avail. The restore option just doesn't work.

Guess I'll wait for the hour to count down and see if the official release fixes things...

WORD OF WARNING

I've got an O2 SIM (just a normal O2 SIM, not iPhone O2) that I've had on a contract for six months now. I've just applied the 2.0 firmware, and I was not given the option to activate. I just get a screen that says "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported", and now I can't use the phone.

I'm not sure my situation this is different to the other people who had normal O2 SIMs, but I wouldn't risk it, people.

I just decided to try this on my iPod Touch and it failed miserably don't even attempt it. I now have to restore my iPod. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
