Gr8! Any chance MobileMe's also sometime near!!!

As much as the dot mac stuff has been down or degraded since WWDC, I would expect it soon, but I'm guessing the 8th or so. That way they can fix the bugs before the iPhone 3G slams into it.

I'm sorry but, I really don't expect Apple to release it early.

Firstly because, it's Apple and I just don't expect an early release.

Second is, would they really release the firmware without Apps Store?

I say everyone just wait until July 11th.

oh and why shouldnt there be apps ready on the store we got demoed a half an hour worth of apps at wwdc:rolleyes:

The apps demoed at WWDC would presumably have been built on the beta version of the SDK. You don't want to ship apps built with a pre-release version of the OS, that's why Apple will likely ship the final OS 2.0 to developers first, so they can rebuild and finalize their apps.

who gave this a negative this is good news i cant wait to have 2.0 for my ipod touch MLB at bat here i come :)

There's always negatives.

If Apple came out with a Mac that was $1000, but had quad-SLI Geforce 9600 Ultra, Intel Core Quad 7.2 Ghz, 32 GB of RAM, and had a Mac OS version which could run Window games faster than Windows...

There'd still be negatives.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm not really sure if I should be happy that it's coming out early. If AppStore isn't going to launch, then I don't find firmware 2.0 that useful (our school blocks us staff from using our own Exchange device, MobileMe isn't out, 3G iPhone isn't out, etc.)

One thing that I do wonder, however, is: how are the 3G phones going to have OS 2.0 on them? Apple already began shipping them from production plants a little while back, right? Thus, I assume that the packaging, et al, is already final. If they haven't already started assembling and shipping them by now, then it is far too late--they won't have many of them available on 11 July 08.

Exactly, this was what i was getting at, but didnt word it correctly!

I think its all a bit to late for the iphones that have already been shipped!

Apple cannot afford to sell the iPhone 3G without 2.0 installed.

Since June 9th, Apple have marketing iPhone 3G as running 'iPhone OS 2.0'.
Releasing the device running 1.1.4 would, as stated, be a total PR nightmare.

If 2.0 hit's GM this Friday, that gives Apple - roughly~ 13 days and 15 hours - to install OS v2.0 onto the phones.
If they knew they couldn't do this within a two-week timeframe, they wouldn't of set the launch for 22 countries.

R-Fly

I do not agree. They could install 2.0 upon activation. The customer wouldn't notice it because the phone will get activated in-store.

Would be nice to get some reviews of all the new capabilities soon and to also end the NDA for version 2.0 features. Of special interest all the enterprise features.

I doubt this will happen. They'll wait until the app store is ready and do the firmware and app store at the same time. It'd be confusing for end users to have an app store icon but not be able to use it.

The 2.0 code has a lot of other features that are unrelated to the App Store.

I see no reason why Apply would HAVE TO wait until July 11. There is a difference between want to and have to, so they may still wait.

Yeah like does that machine have Blu-Ray capability? LOL

Hello guys,
I have been following MR for quite sometimes and have gotten numerous useful news out of here, and now I decided to join the fun!

I have a newbie question, when the 2.0 does come out and I get the iPod touch along with my iMac purchase (B2S Promo), will I get the 2.0 for free with it?

would be cool if...

I could get a converter cable for displaying PPT presentations from an Iphone, would mean not having to lug a laptop around with me to meetings!

In fact exchange support + web browsing + this would mean no need for a laptop outside the office for me :)

Sorry if anyone has answered this elsewhere, but will it be possible to output PPT presentations to a projector?

The sooner the better... I won't go to excited tho as with Apple there's a very thin line between extasy and disappointment.

Not going to happen. Some parts of mobileme are integrated with iPhone 2.0, such as posting photos, so that means waiting for mobileme to be ready. That in turn means we need 10.4.5 to he ready. They won't/can't wait 'til 2.0.1 for the app store, so that needs to be ready. I imagine the app store in iTunes will only work with the new iTunes, so that also needs to he ready.

I'm not saying that I doubt iPhone 2.0 won't be GM by Friday, but I heavily doubt that we'll get our grubby hands on it until all these things are ready.

To me this indicates we wont get V2 on the 2nd gen phone!

There's far to many if, ands and buts for all this to fall into place for the 11th.

Don't quote me on this but i see a huge co*k up looming!

Yes if close to the release date.

Wow. Just wow. Ok everyone, listen up. Some guy named Steve Jobs said that there is this thing called iPhone 3g coming out on July 11th. He said it will come with software version 2.0, among other new features. I know this is a rumor site and all, but the HEAD OF APPLE stated this information as fact, so can we stop debating it? I mean, it doesn't really get much more pointless than this. iPhone 3g will come out on July 11th. It will have a GPS unit. It will not have a front facing camera. It will have the same 2 megapixel camera. It will have 3g. It will have slightly better battery life. It will come in 8gb / 16gb versions, with the 16gb one having the choice of a black or white back. That back will also be plastic and have metal buttons on the side and be slightly thicker with tapered edges. It will cost $199/299 for the 8gb and 16gb versions with a 2 year contract on AT&T. It will have the Apps Store icon to purchase 3rd party apps developed by the iPhone SDK. And lastly, it will have iPhone software 2.0, or else none of those hardware / software features would even work!! Sorry to spell it all out in such long detail, but those are all the facts as told by the guy who knows all the secrets--Steve Jobs. I guess some people here apparently needed to know that all of this is true and not speculation.

Ok, im not arguing the points that we know will come with the 3g phone, im just saying it doesnt matter how much steveo wants the 2nd gen to have the V2 software, things are getting tight and it might not happen. I know how much we all love Apple, but its just a company, and companies can get it wrong however much they try to meet the deadlines.

Who else here thinks as good as apple is, maybe they are up against heavy expectations and maybe, just maybe, they might mess this one up. All im saying is that it could be a slight delay in the V2 s
oftware.

Hmm - Early July...

Well - Tuesday is unofficially "Apple Release Day" and July 1 just happens to be 1) a Tuesday and 2) Early July.

I'll go with that ;)

I think it would be rather stupid of Apple to wait until the 11th if its ready before that. Why? Because they are going to have problems no doubt and I'd much rather be able to have a week of working out any bugs from the 2.0 software than having to deal with 2.0 bugs and iPhone 3G bugs. Besides, release it a week early and you get more free publicity! :)

I would be shocked if Apple released this any sooner than July 11th. I don't think they will give folks 2 weeks to play with Version 2 and realize that they don't really "need" the new iPhone.

I agree I think it would take away the hype if the 3g iphone

I'd be far more likely to believe they actually pushed the phone back to the 11th just for the V2 software. We've known for a while now that they have 3G iPhones. In fact the local radio station here gives them away as prizes. Yes, you go down to the radio station and pick it up right now - no waiting.

So - I'd say the 11th was to make sure, no matter what, that the V2 3G software would be ready - not the phone. The phone has been ready for at least a couple weeks.

Please please please Apple!!!

My two most important features to be implemented:

1. Exchange support (I hate having to use webmail, and it only works on my laptop, not my Touch).

2. Copy and Paste.

I can almost live without #2, but there are situations where I am left hanging high and dry without it. I simply cannot memorize certain things and re-type them in another app... addresses for Google Maps come to mind.

For the last time guys, Copy and Paste is NOT coming to 2.0! Trust me... I speak from experience, thats all I can say.

Tasks and Notes

I don't recall any mention of this, but anyone know if this update will FINALLY let us sync tasks and notes? Looks like the functionality for tasks is in the mail app, but currently disabled.

I think they'll wait till the iPhone's released so that unlockers won't crack it before the 3G comes out.

Yep, i agree. Hacking has been a major headache for Apple, so i can see them doing this to stamp it down. At least it will for a while!
