No word on the cracks or other physical defects, I noticed.

How about "Crack and Leak Free!"

But that won't happen, it can't be done in a firmware update, so, too bad suckers!

I get a kick out of the people that expect every Apple event to have some mind blowing announcement. Yes they usually have nice surprises, but not everything can be like fantasy world.

They announced a new version of iTunes, new iPod models, new iPhone and touch software, NBC coming back, HD TV shows being available. So many people expect Apple to be all about the iPhone, and nothing else.

Given the advertisement for today's event, did you honestly expect it to be about something other than Music?

And I can not wait for 2.1 if it means actually being able to use 3G without dropping calls or kililng my battery.

I would also love to use Safari without the volume indicator randomly coming on and then crashing. So yea, 2.1 might not have all of the things that people pretended would be in it, but it will make the investment of owning the phone more worth while.

Updating Itunes 8.0 now......now hopefully the app crash problem is gone since that was a 7.7.1 bug. I have had no troubles since gong back to 7.7.0.

Now that I think about it.....do you think there is a reason they are holding off on the iPhone 2.1 till Friday for a reason? It seems odd to release 2.1 for the touch and 2.1 for the iPhone a few days later....

iPhone has a cellular radio...touch doesnt

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

nothing is ever good enough for any of you. I think better battery life, connection issues and the app crashing are a little more important than the other all this other stuff that I'm sure will be added later on in a future update. People need to relax and quit whinning.

Someone pass me some of that Kool-aid too!

Ahh much better, now I to am excited that my phone will finally work the way it was supposed to when I bought it. What makes it even better is I can wait till Friday for this to happen.

its funny, and yet puzzling to see all the threads in here whine about the iphone 2.0.

Each and every LAST one of us had the option to return the device in 14 days, if unsatisfied.

Some of your posts, well they lead me to believe you're unsatisfied. If you really were, and you were a SMART consumer, you would've returned the device, no questions asked.

Early adopters we all are. Im not happy with the issues, but they were expected. 1.0 had lots of crap wrong with it too. Its the price you pay...AT YOUR OPTION.

Good for apple if they finally fix it, but no complaints here. My device still does 100x more than anything else on the market, even with the crashing.

BTW I posted this on the other thread and didn't get a response...

Am I really expecting to much for apple to fix the issues AND offer a real update?

This was an iPod event. I'm happy with the new fixes for the iPhone software. Yes I'm sure they will bring copy/paste and turn by turn eventually, but before they do that they need to fix the core problems with the phone. This update will address many of those problems. Even a marginal improvment on battery life will be helpful. I think they need to have a button when you first get into settings that allows you to enter battery saving mode that shuts off 3G, WiFi and location services and just uses edge. Batterylife on this thing with edge is great.

I read this on the iTunes 8 readme...

Nike + iPod:
• Nike + iPod requires a Nike + iPod Sport Kit or Sensor, a compatible iPod, and Nike+ ready shoes.
•*Nike + iPod is compatible with iPod nano and iPod touch (2nd generation). iPod nano (1st generation) must have software version 1.2 or later.
•*To see your workout data on nikeplus.com, an Internet connection and a free Nike.com account are required.

I hope they didn't mention iPhone support purposely because the 2.1 firmware isn't released until Friday...

Same for me. I'd really like to hear from anyone who has installed 8.0 and found that their crashing apps have disappeared. I guess I'm chicken to try.

They TOLD people there would be a big announcement. Why are we being unreasonable in expecting a big announcement?

I can appreciate that bug fixes are good, but when the new firmware is 2.x instead of 2.0.x, we aren't being unreasonable in expecting something more than bug fixes. I'm holding out hope that there will be more in 2.1 than he mentioned, especially since it was an iPod event, after all. ;)

Lol exactly.

Is Apple's market filled with 15 year olds who have no sense of business?

I mean seriously this shouldn't be praised at all, this is what was expected at day of launch of the 2.0 software. It was pushed back already, or have you forgotten?

I am ashamed sometimes to be an Apple stock owner and yet happy, Apple could release the most buggiest phone and everyone will still buy their product vehemently defending it.

:( and :)

Quite sad. This isn't the type of action you want to praise Apple for.

Last I checked, today was September 9 and September has 30 days in it.

Remember how fast some of the firmware builds came out after the previous? Even though this is a large update, it's not unlikely for it to come out September 30 :p.
:p.
For me it's a big deal and I don't think there will be another media event for that .. push notification option...

It doesn't look like the iPhone will be getting Nike+ at this point. The Apple Store page for the kit states the iPod touch (2nd generation) is required and makes no mention of the first generation touch or the iPhone.

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA365LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA3NA&mco=Nzc4NDA

I seem to remember reading that the receiver was similar to Bluetooth but did not exact. Who knows, maybe if enough request it we will still see the Nike+ app for the iPhone. I would love to see the device assisted by the GPS when the signal is available.

A stable OS would have been kinda nice before I spent 3 hours trying to get my apps to work last night.

Oh well at least they are getting this fixed.

Itune 8 looks kinda nice (I like the Genius sysem) as I have a bunhc of songs and don't really have time to look up new bands all the time.

Overall though pretty poor showing, wasn't expecting a ton of iPhone stuff but heck I figured GPS, copy/paste....anything really. The biggest news was "hey we're going to make you phone work like it should have 8 months ago". Not really something that should be a bullet point in your keynote.

If it's in the ipod touch 2.1 update (genius, other features) I can't imagine they won't be in the iphone 2.1 update on friday.

Aside from nike+ of course which is hardware and software, not software alone.

Early Adopters? Buddy, this is 2nd generation. There is no early adoption excuse anymore. The SDK was pushed back for 6 months, 2.0 was pushed back.

Don't be a fanboy and defend Apple's decision-making without thought. It was apple that said the SDK/sandbox/app approval solution would provide crash-free apps and stable phones. This was promised since September of last year.

So don't tell me, I am not reasonable to expect with all of Apple's protection on apps, a crash-free solution like they promised.

Your argument is analogous to "DON'T LIKE THE COUNTRY, MOVE OUT".. it simply doesn't work.

well atleast they are on the right track. But I was hoping for push, but afterall they did say push will be released sometime in september and we technically still have about 20 days to see.
