I don't know if this has been said already but I notice that the alarm now has a snooze function, I don't remember that being there before 2.1

Ok.. So I am updating now, and I am thrilled about most of these "fixes" to the phone... By the way this is a GREAT thread. I still have one MAJOR complaint. I have been an iPhone user since day 1. Literally, I waited in line for 5 hours for the first and another 6 for the 3G... I got both on the day they came out, and have complained about this since day 1.

Why is there no landscape keyboard in the SMS or email applications???

This makes absolutely no sense to me. They have the ability to do it because they put it in the safari app. But to me this makes no sense. Honestly how much typing does one do in Safari? I mean yes you do some occasional posting and blah blah blah.... But come on think of how much typing we do in Email and SMS. It would be SO SO SO SO SO much easier to do it on landscape keyboard.

I love you apple, but COME ON!!! WHY? WHY? WHY????

We've all been wondering this since day ZERO even. They'll never put it in. We've given up hope. :\

Apple was forced to include it in Safari because of the landscape web-browsing feature... it would be way too much of a hassle for users to be surfing in landscape and then switch to portrait every time they wanted to input text.

There's no reason to browse convos in landscape in SMS. If Apple included landscape typing in SMS, most of the screen would be taken up by the keyboard and you'd lose the whole message and constantly have to scroll. This makes it too inconvenient, Apple won't include it.

It's the same reason why there's no landscape viewing for email messages. Although landscape viewing of email would make it so much easier to see emails rich in graphics etc... landscape typing would cover up the whole message and most of what you're typing.

It sucks, but Apple will still never include it.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the Geo-Tagging bug in the camera is also sorted. Coordinates in W and S are now embedded in the EXIF correctly. (and preserved when emailing the photo as already noted).

am/pm indicator..

I finally got AM/PM to show on the locked screen, but it took a while. It displayed after the first couple tries but then I rebooted my iPhone again and it disappeared. Had to do the 24-hour/12-hour setting process all over again. Anyone else?

Same thing's happening to me.. V annoying that something as simple as this won't 'stick' once it's been set.. My colleague's iPod touch seems to work ok.

I wonder if it has anything to so with syncing to a Mac that has a different time format?..

Scroll SMSs up

I'm not sure if it is a new feature of 2.1, but I've finally discovered how to scroll all the SMS messages to the top: tap once in the middle of the screen and then tap on the clock! :)

Passcode Lock time limit

Coming back to the Passcode Lock setting:
with 2.0.2 I could set a “Require Passcode Lock” up to 4 hours, but with 2.1 (5F136) this is now limited to 5 minutes, see screen capture below.
Anyone else experiencing that, would you say it’s a new feature or bug?

attachment.php

I don’t use my phone every 4 minutes and I find it incredibly annoying to have to enter a passcode after just 10 or 20 minutes… when 1 hour or 4 hours did a good job at locking the phone after I was away for too long.

I actually phoned Apple Support for that, and they could only give me the following (mis)information: “the limit to 5 minutes has always been the same for all software versions 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 and 2.1” which is obviously a lie since I used the 4 hours setting on 2.0.2…

Still on the subject of Passcode Lock:
once I’ve enabled Passcode Lock by setting a passcode, I can’t disable it anymore… again see screen capture below: there's no option in 2.1, whereas I'm sure there was one in 2.0.2.
Anyone knows how to overcome that?

Oh, and I can’t control the “Erase Data” on/off either, the switch is just greyed out… unless I'm missing a control from iTunes?

Date & Time Setting Not working in 2.1

Well tried to setup 24 Hours but all I get when I tried to access the Date & Time Setting under General was the page simply would not load and I was thrown to the main page...I guess it crashes....

Configuration: iPhone 1.0 + Pwnage 2.1.

Also why is the SMS page takes so long to load?

Apple can you dig thing? Bug?

• You can now display the AM/PM on the lock screen, if you're using the 12-hour clock.
Note: This function, for some reason, does not appear on everyones phones. Some 'upgraded' phones show the AM/PM indicator when set to 12-hour, but some don't. However, most 'clean installs' of 2.1 will show the AM/PM indicator. (Credit to Kardashian).
If a clean restore doesn't fix your problem, try setting the time to the 24-hour clock and reboot the phone. Switch the time back to the 12-hour clock (the AM/PM mode should appear in the top menu bar at this point). Reboot the phone again. If the indicator doesn't appear, repeat the above steps a couple of times until it does. (Credit to leedsguy).

• With the UK English keyboard setting, when entering URLs, holding down the '.com' button would bring up shortcuts to other TLDs, but for some reason it would drop '.net' to make room for '.co.uk'. 2.1 adds '.net' for the UK English keyboard. (Credit to NekoFever).

• Apple have fixed the grammar in the App Store when all apps up to date. Prior to 2.1, the update page would display the text "All Apps Are Up-To-Date." (hypenated with a period). The update page now displays the text "All Apps Are Up to Date". (Credit to NekoFever).

• Double tapping (the standard gesture for zooming) didn't work in prior firmware versions in the Mail application. The only way to zoom into content (e.g. a HTML attachment/web page) was to use the 'pinch' method. 2.1 now adds the functionality of double tapping to zoom in the Mail application. (Credit to sibruk).

• Mobile Safari now (partially) supports Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). (Credit to Paint.It.Black).

• There has been a minor update to the Exchange setup; in version 2.0 you had to enter userid as the "domain\userid", in 2.1 Apple have created a separate field for domain. However, autodiscover is still not working entirely, and you still need to enter the server name in step 2 of the setup process. (Credit to sskarlatos).

• The DTMF tone bug has now been fixed. This bug would prevent iPhone 3G users from accessing their voicemail system because the '*' tone was not being generated properly. (Credit to ktemkin).

I assume you are in the U.S. based on your location listed. To get the A.M./P.M. to show, you need to change Settings-->General-->International-->Region Format to United Kingdom. Also, make sure you are on a 12 hour clock. Now the lock screen should say A.M./P.M.

For the SMS history thing, you need to have had a sufficiently long convo. If you have, there is a button saying "Load Earlier Messages" at the very top.

This is as per your exchange server permission, you have to ask the admin for your server to make the changes.

Awsome! I have been looking for this feature to call back a person without having to go to my contacts screen.

Thanks for this one!!

blue bubble next to video 3G

ok...so maybe I am over analyzing this blue circle indicator, but what exactly does it mean. this is my understanding:

half blue - you are midway throuhg watching a video

fule blue - you have not watched it at all

if I rewind a movie back to the begining, will to become a full blue circle

This is as per your exchange server permission, you have to ask the admin for your server to make the changes.
Thanks for that, this explains a lot.

However my exchange mail account (on the iPhone) was set-up on 2.0.2 already and I could use the passcode lock with a 4 hours time limit then: my enterprise exchange settings didn't change after the upgrade to 2.1, so what gives?

(Purely rethorical question at this stage, I guess)

I know Apple has really only begun to narrow down on all of the Exchange's nuances. You will probably see over time a lot more exchange functionality come into play. I.E. The step away from domain/username to the Username and Domain separated fields.

You should apologize for quoting the whole first post. That was totally unnecessary.

Haha, I was thinking that as well. The page is now unnecessarily long page, and it takes longer to load. Oh well... everyone makes mistakes.

You're not ther only one , I don't have any option or I haven't see anything about Genius Playlist and I have the 2.1 :(

password character peep feature

I'm thinking this is another new feature on 2.0/2.1 (I haven't noticed it before)... when typing in a password, the last character typed stays unmasked for a second or so before getting masked.
