My first post on here.
I don't think anyone mentionned it yet (don't kill me if i am wrong).
In the mail application there's a new icon that shows up in my inbox right before the title of the message. It says "To" or "cc" depending on where my address was in the incoming message.

You get a picture of Steve Jobs flipping you the bird with a sign around his neck that reads "$$$$UCKA"!

You can now turn off the SMS preview which appears on your standby screen. Originally, the preview would show the sender and a preview of the message. (Credit to nutts).

Sorry but this feature was always present :)

It has changed though, it used to state "Sender - Text Message" when the preview was off, e.g. "Pete - Text Message"

It now just says "New Text Message".

That is cool.

It is a setting in the main email settings page. "Show To/CC Label"

Not sure if it was there before or not as I don't remember.

Yep, it was there in earlier releases, drme. Hidden away though - where Rat-Boy said.

This has probably been asked, but when will there be an iPod update with the Genius feature?
Do you mean iPod Classic 80/160GB? - I don't think there is one coming. :( There were reports that an update was imminent, but then Apple retracted their statements. The new 120GBs have it.

I'm pretty sure the SMS Preview in Passcode Lock was present in 2.0.2...... wasnt it... I had the impression it was since I had been using it (Maybe maybe not...)

Just noticed! The jumping cursor in Safari bug has been fixed. Wikipedia.org now works without the screen bouncing everywhere! Woo!

I haven't installed 2.1 yet (on the train home to do so tonight now...), but yay, finally! I'll be able to log in to my corporate network again without travel sickness pills!

Found another addition.

With the UK English keyboard setting, when entering URLs holding down on the '.com' button would bring up shortcuts to other TLDs, but for some reason it would drop '.net' to make room for '.co.uk'. (I say bizarrely because UK academic institutions use '.ac.uk', which would make '.edu' the obvious one to drop.) 2.1 adds '.net' for the UK keyboard.

Alas, it doesn't make 'macrumors' be spelt correctly :p

I post this earlier in another thread but I believe it works.

So to the people who don't like SMS alerts I think I have found how to halt them.

When you first receive you message and it is a stupid one like "okay" or "thanks" Hit the sleep button, while it is on the display. I am pretty sure I did that last night and I didn't get a notification later. However, I can't be 100% certain as I am home for the weekend and I was texting a lot so I don't know if that was the sole thing that stopped the notification, but I think this works.

Confirmation? :D

Yep, I was playing with passcode lock the other week, and noticed the SMS preview option, so its been there a while.

Yes, but with 2.0 (and all prior versions) you could have the passcode lock on, with the SMS preview off (so that it wouldn't show any of the contents of your text messages), but it would still show you who the message was from. So, you would get a notification that said the name, and "text message" underneath it. They seem to have taken that away.

Sorry but this feature was always present :)

It has changed though, it used to state "Sender - Text Message" when the preview was off, e.g. "Pete - Text Message"

It now just says "New Text Message".

I HATE this new "feature". I liked that I could have my text messages be private (meaning, it wouldn't show part of them) but that I could glance at my phone and see who the message was from. Now my only options are to keep all of the information hidden, or make my text messages (partially) visible to anyone who may happen to pick up my phone. There should be an option to show the sender, even when the message preview feature is turned off.

wow I never realized that if you held down the .com button while entering the URL it would bring up more suffixes

thanks for telling meh!

yup, news to me too!
That's cool.
I hate the way it tries to correct .co.uk in the spell check though.

What's the relevance in the new network indicators of 'o' for GPRS I wonder?
I mean, 3G for 3G is fine, E for Edge is cool too but 'o' for GPRS?

Has anyone noticed that the alarm now has SNOOZE? I couldn't take a screenshot while the iPhone was locked (on sleep) but it's different to when the phone is unlocked. When it is locked you get a big snooze button in the middle and the slide to turn off stays the same as it has always been. Here is the screen shot of when the phone is unlocked.

I'm not sure this is a new feature, but in the iPod when your playing a song in portrait mode(cure you can go "back" by swiping your finger across the album art (center of screen) from left to right (BIG RED ARROW). It works the same as if you pressed the "Left Arrow" in the upper left-hand corner of the screen (small filled in red arrow). It brings you back to the previous screen (second picture).

Snooze has always been there, not sure about the locked screen thing though, I remember the alert always looking like that image you attached, locked or not.

That's been there for a while now. It's at least been there since 2.0, but I think it was earlier than that. It might have even been like that on the 1.1.x firmwares.

Really? I never noticed. I use the alarm all the time but then again I'm half asleep when the alarm goes off and I always jump for the slide on screen so that I don't wake anyone up. Today I was just bored and I was testing it out while I'm awake. That's when I saw the snooze. Here is the pic I'm talking about. Sorry about the quality, I was using a Samsung E250 and I had to dim the iphone becaue I cloud not see anything. I was just getting a bright light.

you could have just capture the image with your phone , press the top then home and it takes the picture.

I'm sure this is an option you can turn on via the Mail settings in Settings.

I've have now edited the original post to avoid confuesion. Thanks :p.

Thanks for the screenshot. I'll add it to the original post right away.

I'm not sure if this has been posted, but Apple's fixed the grammar on the App Store when all the apps are up to date.

iphoneuptodate514.jpg

It used to say "All Apps Are Up-To-Date." (hypenated with period), which is grammatically incorrect and always annoyed me as a card-carrying grammar nazi :p

Added that fix also. Thanks for the screenshot too.

not sure if someone said this but in settings and about there is now a carrier listing and mine says at&t 2.6 not sure what the 2.6 means? i dont think this was there at all before

Not entirely sure if that's new - can anyone with a previous version of firmware confirm this?

Don't forget to add the one at #165 re: mail zooming ;)

Sorry . Just spotted that post.
