you could have just capture the image with your phone , press the top then home and it takes the picture.

Wow, cool!! Thanks for that one, I had no idea that existed.
I've been trying to figure out how everyone did that.
Thanks for the tip!!!!

I could be way behind the times here, but has Safari always allowed you to view a Quicktime video?

Sorry but this feature was always present :)

It has changed though, it used to state "Sender - Text Message" when the preview was off, e.g. "Pete - Text Message"

It now just says "New Text Message".

This only seems to work if you lock the phone, I don't as it's always kept in my pocket - is there any way to disable the actual text of the message if you don't lock the phone ? Or am I missing something very obvious here ?

Cheers

Stephen

Same here. I know what you mean. It would be nice to be able to turn music (iTunes and Youtube) volume up and down, and not have it affect ring volume.

In much of the same way that we download ringtones, it would be nice to be able to add custom tones for SMS alerts.

We know what you were really doing. :D

hey that looks a nice app :D i take it its not in the app store:mad:

Hope it hasn't been pointed out yet... but the scrub bar in the iPod has been improved to be much more precise when jogging backward and forward.

• Third-party application settings are loaded after loading the main Settings. (Credit to Nall).

(Credit to Nall).

That isn't anything new - It was happening beforehand (I know it was at least happening with 2.0.2).

The only 2 programs I have that have settings in the main phone settings is Datacase and Aurora Feint. So with 2.1, nothing has changed as far as that goes. I think it is just up to the Application as to whether it uses that option.

what's new is the fact that the main settings (ie the default installed ones) load first, then all the ones from apps you installed (which only some have) load second.

It used to load all the settings together. it took forever if u have a bunch of apps with their own settings.

this is def a 2.1 upgrade.

Ah... I get ya... My bad.

The reason I went iPhone 3G.

My Bluespoon AX2 headset finally works with VM too! Cheers to Apple for getting a quality update out. You won't find service like that from Palm!
That is the reason I went with Apple that and iTunes/App store. I observed first hand how they handled iPhone one. I can't say I was shocked at the state of 3G's software as I had seen the SDK development first hand, but let's say I was displeased with Apple. This update has been good but not excellent. The biggest problem I've had since 2.1 went in that Safari still crashes. In time I expect that to get better too.
Seems like they may have found this glitch. Is there anyone on 2.1 that has a BT headset working with calls, but still not with visual VM?

Funny thing is I'm a strong advocate for BT but I have a big aversion to putting a micro wave transmitter in my ear. That is just to close to really sensitive tissue. So no Borg appliances for me.

I'm actually disappointed that Apple doesn't place a higher priority on BluTooth support as there is a lot of potential for apps on Touch devices if BluTooth was supported with the common profiles.

Back to the positives; so far I have not fond anything that hasn't already been mentioned. I've started to install apps again as I wanted to avoid some of the speculated faults. This is much snappier. Mail hasn't crashed on me since the update and that use to happen every single day. Calendar hasn't screwed up anything yet and I remain hopeful that the gobblins are gone there.

All in all a very good update! Now I'm wondering when all the goodness that was rumored for this update but apparently got pulled, is due. Considering the time of the year it either needs to come before the middle of Nov. or it will likely wait for Jan. That would be a long wait.

Speaking of spelling, "be Spelt ??" Must have been typed on an iPhone. Or is that a Brit word? :D
Spelt is correct in the mothertongue. ;) It used to be one of your words too, before that **** went through the dictionary with a bottle of Tipp-Ex, introducing inconsistencies left, right and centre, screwing up the whole language.

No, I don't feel passionately about it at all.

Don't know if this is new or not (I *think* it is) but Maps shows bus stops.
That's not new. Been there since at least 2.0.1.

Nope, you're right, you have to enable the password lock. You can set it for four hours, so that you would only have to unlock it once a day (presumably). Then you can set the privacy feature on SMS.

I don't have an iPhone but when I upgraded my Touch to 2.1 I noticed that the 'Downloads' line at the bottom of each App's screen in the App store was no longer there. It only ever showed a download count of zero so it's no surprise it was removed.

I assume it'll be the same on the iPhone.

EQ still doesn't work

Changing the EQ settings or using presets still don't work in 2.1. It looks like having proper EQ settings for music is considered low priority on the iPhone like copy and paste.

I have my preset EQ encoded into songs in iTunes which sync over and works fine. You do know you have to set EQ to flat for it to play the embedded EQ right?

I have the EQ set to flat under iPod in settings and no dice... Now that I think about it, no dice since 1.1.4. I manually change around the EQ and no dice there either. What do you recommend I do daneoni?

Does the triple click mean the new headphones will work then?!

I hope so too.

It would be beyond peculiar that "the best iPod we've ever made" according to Steve didn't work with the best headphones Apple sells.

I am keeping my fingers crossed, but am cautious since the iPhone is not listed as being compatible.

DTMF tone bug fixed

Not sure if this fix has been mentioned yet, but it appears that the DTMF tone bug, referenced in the following Apple discussions, has been fixed.

The bug prevented iPhone3G users from accessing their voicemail systems because the '*' tone was not being generated properly.

I was just able to contact my voicemail system for the first time since purchasing my iPhone3G

On my iPhone it doesn't show my phone number above the search. Strange.

I don't either. I believe it is because our network operator hasn't downloaded personalisation data to our SIM. I got a 'default' SIM when I purchased my 3G and then transferred an existing number to it, but it doesn't appear that they updated the SIM with my number data. If I can be bothered, I'll ask my provider to update the SIM and see if this resolves the missing number issue.

Delete message shortcut

Is this new in 2.1 - I never came across it before?

In your email Inbox, or the SMS conversations list, skim your finger from left to right (or right to left, even!) on an item to bring up a red "Delete" button for that message. Very useful shortcut!
