Safari is much more stable but still crashes. My girl checked her email in yahoo and crashed almost every time. Also after surfing for a while it crashed on me too. I wonder if they will completely fix it. What I'm waiting is for push!

Something that worked very well for me was doing the following in Safari settings:
  • disable plugins
  • clear history
  • clear cache
And after exiting settings immediately restarting (hold power and home buttons, select "shut down" and after it has powered off completely, press power to start up again).

This made Safari even under 2.1 much more stable. Under 2.2 it's thus far as solid as bedrock.

It has to do with the coding in the Application, more than it does the update. I have aSleep and it too stops playing when the iPod Touch is locked, however two other applications (games) continue to play music when the touch is locked. I would imagine that the applications can be updated to still play while iPhone OS is locked.

i agree that it is not a problem with all apps. i suppose apple once again made an arbitrary decision on which apps to screw up for no good reason. after i realized white noise and easy relax didn't play when the phone was locked, i immediately opened ipod and played a song and locked the phone and it did NOT stop playing. way to only look out for your own apple...

hopefully every individual developer for all these now broken apps will be able to get updates out quickly since i'm sure apple will have no motivation or concern to resolve the problem they introduced.

on a positive note i do like clicking the home button to get to page 1. with 9 pages that is helpful. of course that just gets me fired up again that apple arbitrarily limits us to 9 pages... ;)

Nice update. Safari seems much more stable and finally I have the option to turn off that annoying auto-correction.

Hopefully it stays that way.

don't know if it's been mentioned but i've always listened to white noise or easy relax apps to fall asleep. but now with 2.2 when my phone is locked the apps stop playing.
BOO

Wow.. that sucks. I'm sure that it's a change to the way that the apps run on the iPhone. I'm sure that it's nothing that an update (to the application) can't fix.

It's always done this. I've been using this method instead of tapping a dot or swiping for a while now.

It has always been like that... You don't have to touch the dots, but can touch pretty much anywhere near the bottom for it to switch pages.

(emphasis mine)

Licensing my ass. Why then would they care about app size?

I guess this whole "unlimited bandwidth" thing isn't without limitation.

Never buying this crap.

Oh, and I noticed there were like 40% negative rating for this post, what's everyone upset about? No really, it's not rhetorical: I don't own one, I want to know seriously what people's concerns are, and I haven't seen many angry posts here.

Show me one cell company where unlimited bandwith truly means unlimited. Everyones been putting caps up lately.

And the size thing isnt in relation to the licensing, im pretty sure its more of a time/connectivity issue.

Yes.

Had my hopes up but Safari is still crashing :(

Yeah. Yesterday I was so happy and boasting about how Safari is fixed. I was wrong :( Yesterday through out the day during about 3 hours of use Safari crashed twice. I do think so far atleast that I have seen, the keyboard doesn't lag as much while typing in forums and log in screens. I really hope they fix the crashing permanently. Safari is to me the most important feature on the phone and out of all the default apps and 3rd party apps Safari is the only one that I can count on crashing. Nothing else crashes for me. Only safari.

Itunes store on the phone crashes during download and some of my games have stopped playing sound. wierd...

The iPod app is freaking out now that I updated.

I downloaded a video podcast, and it has a preview of the beginning of the video in the image, but it placed the preview for the podcast as the image for ALL my movies. So it looks like Hellboy, Hellboy II and Wall-E all begin with the Ask A Ninja video!!

Plus, cover flow has some issues now. My covers that were there a while ago are now showing up as black, but if I tap where they should be, it comes to the front with the artwork. if I flip it over, it as all the songs, but the upper right hand corner that usually has the artwork is a black square.

Come on, seriously! The iPod was the most stable feature on the phone and now that doesn't work after this update.

Resyncing my music now hoping this will work.View attachment 145401

Caps..

It's not just mobile companies but ISP's as well. Comcast and Cox cable both announced download caps on their customers. It is another way for them to generate additional revenue by limiting bandwidth.

And let's not forget that they also wanted to charge more to companies like Google that generated more "hits" than other sites too.

anyone else experiencing issues with image quality of saved .jpg attachments?

Yes there is something very ill with the "Photos" app in the 2.2 update. The images are actually saving fine (you can retrieve the original with the iPhoto app on your desktop) it's just that the handling in Photos is a bit screwy. If you save a 800x600 image you view it at 160x120, but if you save a 640x480 image it gets increased in size to 800x600! 1600x1200 (the camera output) is fine, but one pixel less in size and you view it as a tiny image.

Exactly, I don't get why the guy I responded to really thought that there weren't any caps.

Not in this world any way.

I believe it says "fair market value". Have you even bothered to look this stuff up yourself?

Yeah, I read articles with references to real accountants for real corporations that have no clue what Apple's talking about. "Fair market value"?? So each one of these updates adds $10 to the value of the phone? So the iPhone should really be like $250! What a bargain it is at a mere $200!

I'm glad that doesn't apply to Operating systems. 10.5.5 would be like $50 grand!

Well at least you're honest. I can believe that they straight-up didn't want people using bandwidth. To believe it's a matter of "can't get the music companies to agree to cell downloading" is hogwash though. Anyone who buys that line is smoking something.

There's also the issue of wondering what else they're going to stop letting you access to save a few bucks on bandwidth. Perhaps youtube will be WiFi-only in the future?

Again, I don't own an iPhone, but I'd feel kind of weird if some accountant at AT&T had a firm grip on my testicles. Good luck you guys!
