Yeah, I read articles with references to real accountants for real corporations that have no clue what Apple's talking about. "Fair market value"?? So each one of these updates adds $10 to the value of the phone? So the iPhone should really be like $250! What a bargain it is at a mere $200!

I'm glad that doesn't apply to Operating systems. 10.5.5 would be like $50 grand!

Well at least you're honest. I can believe that they straight-up didn't want people using bandwidth. To believe it's a matter of "can't get the music companies to agree to cell downloading" is hogwash though. Anyone who buys that line is smoking something.

There's also the issue of wondering what else they're going to stop letting you access to save a few bucks on bandwidth. Perhaps youtube will be WiFi-only in the future?

Again, I don't own an iPhone, but I'd feel kind of weird if some accountant at AT&T had a firm grip on my testicles. Good luck you guys!

at&t will come off their high horse when the novelty wears off and people start realizing that the phone's construction is getting flimsier

don't know if it's been mentioned but i've always listened to white noise or easy relax apps to fall asleep. but now with 2.2 when my phone is locked the apps stop playing.
BOO

I go to sleep listening to the Bloom music app and it still runs when my iPhone 3G (running 2.2) locks. I use the official 3G dock connected to some speakers. I also tested Bloom playing when locked and not in the dock and it still works.

What app do you use to listen to white noise? The app Wunder Radio had to issue an update (version 1.3) because the 2.2 iPhone update broke something that prevented the sound from working when the screen sleeps. Perhaps the same thing needs to be done with whatever app you are using for the white noise?

Content providers have been hassling Apple for flexible pricing for ages. The story goes that they wanted to charge more for OTA downloads, and Apple said no. Seems realistic enough. Apple doesn't want flexible pricing, and content providers do. That's pretty much the story of the iTunes store.

I'll search for the answer, but can anyone tell me how this is accomplished? I hadn't discovered this yet.

Settings-->Wallpaper

Underneath the preset wallpapers will be your own photos. Click on the camera roll you want to use, then the photo, then you can resize it by panning and pinch/reverse-pinch.

I've got to say that I was getting pretty pissed with the amount of dropped calls I had under the 2.1 firmware. I would have issues with a dropped call about every 45mins. Beyond that I was having issues with the phone staying in 3G. It would be edge and roam 90% of a long length (4hr) phone call.

Under 2.2 today I was able to talk on the phone for just under 7hours with no drops and with the phone staying in 3G the entire time! Ever cool!

Good job on that fix :apple:!

WOOT! Just got my first Safari crash in 2.2! I was getting worried I'd never see my old friend Crash again. Ebay searches never fail to bring him by for a visit.

Keep him busy, I don't want to see him around that soon again :D

This 2.2 update is the worst update ever! I don't see anything that is worth! :S

Street view is good to show to friends (and in 90% of the world doesn't work, only in some USA cities; I'm from Portugal)
Podcasts download... ok, interesting, but not worth to update to get this...
Safari update... well... it is a minor design change, not worth.

What about copy paste, mms, push notifications, better info on the blocked screen, like a small summary? Something worth of an update?

"Not worth"? was updating really that much of an inconvenience? You must have been pissed about the updates that were just bug fixes and didn't add anything!

I have noticed a very big increase in performance and overall speed of the applications. That alone is worth the update. And so far my battery life seems to have improved a bit

Completelly agree... but, as you might understand, the iphone software is missing some improvements on features and those features if they came are very wellcome, and it is very strange that they don't come. The speed and stability is important, but not a feature, is something assumed and that i part of the package. The problem is that some other features that should be part of the package are not included yet...

This is amazing....! With 2.2, apps load in like 2 secs flat for me!

Wwwwwwwwoooooooooowwwwwwww.....Ok, I agree with all that the iPhone is missing fundamental abilities like copy and paste and MMS, but I also believe they should get all bugs and inefficient code sorted through before they start adding big functions and I'll be damned if this 2.2 update didn't do it....Ever since 2.0 and 2.1, I've noticed that, as the day went on (after a restart, when it was its fastest) and I began to use more and more applications, the iPhone would be terribly slow to load up applications by the end of the day....I mean, even opening the App Store at the end of the day would take like 7 or 8 seconds to open and "Settings" would sometimes take 10 seconds. Of course, I rationalized this as a result of the iPhone not having more than 128 mb of RAM and that with the 2.0 update and the App Store, many applications were sloppily quitting, resulting in memory leaks that (over time) slowed down the device. Prior to 2.0, with just the default Apple apps, the phone was still very fast at the end of the day and I would not have to do my "daily restarts".

But now, with 2.2, EVERY FRIGGIN PROGRAM (default Apple programs at least) open QUICK. Like 2 seconds quick! Good job on increasing performance Apple! I LOVE this. You're doing the right thing guys....Optimize optimize optimize until you're damn close to 100% efficiency AND THEN add new stuff. God I love this phone man....

It is not the inconvinience... is the features added. It as passed to much time to add basic features. It even passed time (do you remember the iphone 3g presentation) that apple said on presentations for some features; "end of setember, push service available".
This is unacceptable! This is jocking with the clients.

I'll take this update any day. The stability it brought to my iPhone is worth every mb of the download.

I would rather have a fast and stable phone instead of a slow one filled with buggy applications. If they are holding back with the promised features that only means that they have encountered some unforeseen problems and have to iron them out until they can ship it them to us.

+1

???
You just said it's not worth it. What did you have to give up for this update? What wasn't worth it?

I just thought of something...

Doesn't the podcast downloading with the iTunes app mean that it's running in the background? My podcasts were done downloading after I closed the app...

Cool. You mean they open faster? But how long before they're actually running?

(The iPhone covers up slow starts on every application by first displaying either a dummy or the last app screen image. This sleight of hand makes startups look instantaneous to the casual observer. However, if you start clicking right away, you can notice that it might take another five seconds or more before the program actually loads and runs.)

A solid "meh" to this update. Not nearly as good as 2.1 update was in terms of new stuff. Street view is useless for me because it's not available where I live.

No, for me, apps literally open and are ready to use in about 2 seconds. Even for App Store apps, it's 2-4 seconds, depending on how heavy the app is.

2.2 is a godsend. With 2.1, apps regularly took 8-10 seconds to load, even small ones like Clock and Notes. It's much, much faster for me now, even to open most apps from the App Store, and Apple apps like Maps, Settings, Camera, etc. :D
