thanks a lot bro :)..so i just upload it in itunes. Is there a chance of bricking my iphone? If yes, what would u suggest the next course of action. Please advice..thanks.

cheers,
vince

there really is no chance of bricking because of ipcc settings, i did once manage to get my phone into an endless loop of restarting the springboard, but even then, i managed to upload the new ipcc without resetting/restoring or anything, ipcc file uploads are generally quite safe, it's when you start doing funny things to jailbreak that you have to be carefull

Hey bro,

Thanks very much for your help again!! With your ipcc file, my MMS is working and I see the tethering option under Settings-General-Network. I salute your patience and persistence to help a fellow comrade achieve something he has been yearning since he got the iphone :). Your dedication to this forum makes it so worthwhile to share. thks again.

cheers,

What would be the best way to go about being put on a dev account? I'd love to get my hands on 3.0b2, but from what I can tell you need a dev account. ANy info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

For the life of me I still cannot get this to work. Over two weeks now I've had the 3.0 beta 2. I went in to an AT&T store and had them set my texting plan as a standard text plan instead of the iPhone text plan. I even called and got moved up to level 2 tech support to confirm that everything on my account is provisioned correctly to do it. I updated my carrier file to AT&T5 and have all of the network settings placed correctly.

No number of reboots, airplane mode on/off, wifi on/off and restoring the network settings fixes it. I'm all out of ideas :(

Alright guys, So I'm on a family unlimited texting plan. I couldn't get MMS to work on my phone for the life of me! I finally decided to try doing that mediaNet trick that people were talking about. But what triggered me to do it, was an article I was reading on gizmodo. I was able to get MMS working on my phone and 2 other phones (friends with 3.0).

1. Put your sim card into another phone with MMS capabilites. Then text and call people for about 5-10min

2. Go to https://mymedianet.wireless.att.com/app/MC/Login.aspx?JSpassed=4%252f11%252f2009%2b4%253a57%253a34%2bPM
Follow the on screen instruction...put in your cell phone number blah blah blah
(if it says this phone is not supported, its cause the system is still recognizing the iPhone. So just log into your account on AT&T and manually change the phone. Give it some time and try again.)

3. Once it sends you the text to your phone continue following the on screen instructions (only 2 more lol)

4. Give it some time to work...because it will not work INSTANTLY but if you give it a little bit maybe like an hour or so it should work. Just be patient, once again it will not work immediatly after...you have to give it some time. (for my 2 friends it took between 30min- 1 hour)

Also I DID NOT USE MODIFIED .IPCC files on my friends phones, but I did use it on mine because I wanted the tethering.

HOPEFULLY THIS WORKS FOR MOST OF YOU PEOPLE...especially people with the family unlimited texting.

iPhone 3.0 BETA 2 - MMS officially works!

MMS works finally! First I followed the steps under gizmodo.com and it didn't work. After that I emailed At&t gave them the developer speel...they emailed back saying Iphone does not have MMS right now, blah blah blah. Next day, finally I tried the extra steps "Raidel" gave. I did a MMS text as well with a RazorV3. Finally, it worked no more red !. Thank you all for your posts.

Has anyone tried the MediaNet trick with another smartphone with specialized data services on AT&T ie. a BlackBerry? Did it work?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. The medianet website just looks to see if the phone under the phone number your putting is able to use medianet (blackberry's and WM phones can to my knowledge) so it should let you do it with other smartphones.

I'll give it a shot. I have had inconsistent luck with MMS thus far with Beta 2, sometimes it works while others it doesn't. My AT&T account is provisioned correctly from what I can see compared to others that have seen success. I can't quite put my finger on what the right combination of Wifi on/off, MMS on/off and restarts seem to work.

Bricked iPhone 3.0OS

I started the process by upload the ipcc file and then I realized I no longer had another ATT phone to use for the remaining part of the setup.

The settings showed up in my system settings as ATT5 and so on but once I rebooted my phone.

I get the must connect to iTunes and I can no longer use my phone. I went to ATT and got another SIM card thinking that would fix it but it didn't.

What do I do now???

Thank you for help!

back again

Hi Everyone

sorry for the silence, the offer to help out with mms settings still stands, I was just in a cabin in the mountains since thursday, and reception wasn't the best, tried once or twice to reply to some of the posts but with no luck ;(

anyways, for everyone asking for ipcc files, I'm happy to help, you have to send me the following though:

your original ipcc file
your network's mms settings

also let me know if you are only interested in mms, or if you're interested in tethering as well

send me these details to theron.roland@gmail.com

Hi Avel

first off, your phone isn't bricked, it just needs to be activated with iTunes (have you registered it as a developers handset on a developer account?)

I'm not sure I understand how you got to this though, you say you uploaded the ipcc, rebooted the phone, and then you found the new options in settings (so your phone worked after the reboot?) what happened for the phone to then ask to be connected to itunes?

either way, if you can't get a reaction out of your phone, go to www.iclarified.com

find the tutorial on how to put the phone in DFU mode, once you have done this, you can restore any firmware to the phone, (2.2.1 or 3.0), after the restore, just restore your itunes backup, and you have your phone back... easy

well, i changed my phone manually on att.com and now i am waiting for media net to allow me to log in. right now it keep saying that my phone does not support media net. any ideas how long this shoudl take to register.

actually everytime i try to change my phone from iphone to something else, it reverts back to iphone. huh???

I had the same issues, media net not recognizing phone number, iphone not changing in att account. However I think what worked for me is keeping the sim in the non-iphone for over an hour, making calls, doing mms texting. Make sure when you put the sim back in the iphone, to turn mms texting on in settings>messeges. Keep trying.

ok so i put the sim in my samsung phone and signed up for media net succesfully, sent some texts, made some calls. probably in their for close to an hour, then put sim back in iphone and turned off mms, then turned it on. still gets about 95% thru with sending picture then gives me the old red triangle of death. i guess i will keep trying to see if i can get the pic sent but so far no good.

A bit of an update. My BlackBerry did not work, I can think of quite a few reasons why it didn't, but mine should be an isolated case with the exception of not having the BB data service enabled on my account.

However, I am now fully MMS enabled. I called ATT for the second time yesterday and nicely explained the situation with being an iPhone Dev and all. Of course the CSR defaulted to the ATT internal systems saying that OS 2.2.1 is the current OS, blah blah blah, but with kind persistence she tried one more thing. My account was already set to Family Text plan (I did this 2 weeks ago when I first installed Beta 1), so that wasn't the issue. The rep said she wanted to send a quick update to the phone and asked me to power off and back on again. She tweaked something on my account, and boom MMS was working. It was a little like pulling teeth to get her to tell me what she switched, but finally she spilled it. She went into an internal ATT system called "Snoopers" and turned on MMS capabilities. Apparently merely switching your text plan to the family plan and removing the iPhone text option isnt enough. There was this one more switch in "Snoopers" which was required. MMS now works like a charm, short of the occasional (twice since the ATT call) reboot.
