MMS using different apn from tethering

Hi

I'm struggling to get mms and tethering to work at the same time

I'm on vodacom south africa, and the problem is, the apn used for internet is different from the apn used for mms

the internet apn is "internet" or "iphone.vodacom.za"

the mms apn is "mms.vodacom.net"

if i put the type-mask=-2 key under the mms apn, then mms works, internet on the phone also works, but tethering doesn't work, the phone says "internet tethering", but the machine it's connected to still cannot browse the internet

if i put the type-mask=-2 key under either the "internet" or "iphone.vodacom.za" apn, then tethering works perfectly, but i cannot send mms'

does anyone know of a way to get both working at the same time? at the moment i leave the settings for mms to work on my phone, and when i need to use tethering i upload a different ipcc file, restart the phone, and when i'm done tethering, i upload the mms ipcc again and restart the phone again

any help would be appreciated

p.s.

if anyone's still struggling to get mms or tethering working give me a shout, i've configured it for quite a few networks now and it's worked each time, regardless of upgrade/restore of firmware

I'm on o2 in the UK and I can send MMS but not receive them.

do you receive an sms with a link to your mms on the web, or nothing at all?

if you can send mms, your settings are fine, it's then a network issue if you don't receive your mms', check with o2 if you have mms enabled on your plan

This is the problem. O2 are not allowing it on iPhone plans at the moment, claiming that they need to "hear more from Apple this summer" regarding 3.0.

I too am on O2, if you mither them they will eventially turn on the MMS provisioning. I have had the sending and receiving option available since Sunday last.

Don't give up if it is important to you.

What did you tell them exactly? I've tried 5 times now and I am getting nowhere.

Just told them I was a developer and was developing an App that used MMS....

I tried three times in total, I did it by phonecall as opposed to email.

Just to confirm I can send and receive the full MMS (not a link to a website to view).

i tried once by email :p
have had mms working for a few weeks now..

pretty sweet!

also, any messages you send will take 4 off of your text allowance..

Hi there,
I am a registered developer for Apple using the iPhone 3G on O2. I am developing an application and require the ability to receive MMS on my iPhone.
Another developer in my team had the ability to receive MMS added yesterday evening, please could you do the same.

Let's see what happens. 6th time lucky.

Awesome, you can finally do something other cell phones have been able to do for years.

Do they have Wifi?
Do they have real web browsing?
Do they have multitouch?

No.

MMS is something I would like, not need. I just want my GF to be able to send me naughty pictures. O2 won't put it on for that reason though :(

Martin, I understand that you're a registered iPhone developer and you want to use the MMS service on your iPhone. However, currently we don't support the MMS service on iPhone, as this service isn't compatible with iPhone tariffs.

We're looking into this at the moment and further information will be available in due course.

6th time unlucky :(

I'll not contact o2 and ask for them to setup MMS on my account, knowing my luck they'll deactivate my ability to send MMS.

I can send fine. I just get a text with a link rather than a real MMS when I receive.

Thing is, MMS works to email addresses, so if people email me a photo, it works just fine.

anyone got any mms help with AT&T like ipcc files and how to enable the mms and step by step?

I think you have to do those steps in order i did the Media Net thing last week but I didn't have step 4 done until today and it does not work for me.

I am with AT&T. It suddenly worked one day and my excitement didn't last more than a day. Even on the day (hours?) it worked I was not able to get MMS from the people to whom I was able to send pictures.

Do they have Wifi?
Do they have real web browsing?
Do they have multitouch?

No.

My old Windows phone had full web browsing (with Flash) and wi-fi. My current G1 has wi-fi, 3G, Bluetooth, etc., and it runs the desktop version of Flash. By the way, a device that cannot run Flash is not running the "real" web.
