I swear if Copy Paste is the only new thing in 3.0, I'll.....I'll.....I'lll GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could be wrong, but I don't think they spent the last year developing cut, copy and paste...god, I hope not.

I have a feeling we are only going to see a preview of the OS. It going to mainly be a new SDK discussion.

sh#t, yo, finally. now if they allow us to store and edit documents, this thing will be ready for the real business world.

actualy a lot of businesses use the iphone and are VERY happy with it.. you like the other smart phones so much? go get one!
and you might want to change your profile quote thing cuz 1 20 2009 already came around and a bigger mistake happened so yes now u can start praying:eek:

What i'd like to see...

I agree with a lot of other posters here; v2 to v3 will have to bring big changes; a LOT more than just cut n paste. v1 to v2 brought the app store; enough said! What i'd like to see in 3.0 is a more reflective approach and a focus on refining the UI as much as implementing new ideas... I (like others) would like to see a big change in app management and i would like to see that change reflected in iTunes too, my app list is getting very big; app categories would be a good start. I'd also like to see the built in apps refined more e.g. allowing SMS forwarding (that and the lack of MMS has been a sore point for me since i've had an iPhone as my partner is always tacking the piss over the lack of such basic features!), and last but not least; i'd like to see a File management app to let you store files on the phone and browse them (with Finder integration when plugged into a mac), but i'd also like it to be able to browse my home networked drives too; you can kind of do it at the moment by setting up a web server on your mac and creating a link to a network location; you can then use your web browser to browse files; it will even let you stream movies this way, but i'd like to see this functionality formalized into a proper app. I'd code one myself but the SDK won't give me enough access to get anywhere near doing something like this myself!

Looking forward to Tuesday... Hopefully some of the above will be there and maybe a few pleasant surprises too :D

If Apple doesn't do a good job implementing copy-n-paste, it may turn out to be the worst feature of the iPhone. It's one of those things that could turn out to be confusing and generally make people want to throw their phones at a brick wall.

I hope it's either a surprising useable feature (which doesn't continually pop up when I'm trying to scroll through a page or whatever), or else that Apple allows you to turn it off.

So with the video thing... If it's a hardware limitation explain this. It's from 2007. I'd assume there are better apps for that now.

I'm thinking some of this stuff being said by Kevin Rose may be fake info dispersed by Apple for leak tracking purposes. The explanation about video capabilities sounded really unlikely. I'm wondering if some of his sources are a little nervous right now.

Apple provided an explanation as to why it cant record. No other phones use the NAND memory so its perfectly reasonalbe that Apple doesnt want to **** up your phone!

I have to disagree. The mobile market is so volatile that it's a buyer's market; people are presented constantly with discount offers, bundle deals and so on because it's tough when it comes to contract renewal time to keep a customer's business.

Notice how when the iPhone 3G came out existing iPhone customers were offered a cheap as chips upgrade deal on condition of signing another contract extension? That's because people only renew their phones at contract renewal time because they're offered the latest and greatest for heavily subsidised prices, sometimes free.

Apple will have a new updated version of the iPhone ready to go for the next time the earliest contract renewal dates arise for existing iPhone customers. Otherwise said customers will have no qualms checking out the latest Android capable device / Blackberry / Palm as they will be on offer anyway. If these customers go with these alternatives they will be unable to get Apple's newly improved iPhone when it does come out as they'll be tied into the contract for their Android / Blackberry / Palm etc which they will no doubt have been showing off to all their mates in the meantime, who may well go out and buy the competition as a result.

In short, the product life cycle is designed to outlast the consumer's desire to replace it with the shiny new version 18 months later.

You can still tell that cycorder videos are made on a cell phone.....

That was the only thing i was trying to say

I see - apologies for the somewhat terse sounding reply.

The fact is though any footage shot on an iPhone is always going to look like it was shot on a mobile device as you can only fit a single CCD into them and not very good ones at that.

Technology will obviously advance but there is no reason to suggest Apple will suddenly have minature CCD's leaps and bounds ahead of the competition as they don't design them nor do they manufacture them; ergo they're only able to use the same class of CCD as all the rest.

Here is how Apple should do video recording on the new iPhone. It should be built into the camera app as is logical and be coupled with MobileMe and YouTube uploading and MMS including video not just pictures!!!

The little icon on the top right is like in the iPod to flip the album art over but that simply flips the camera from front to the back and just turn the phone sideways to shoot widescreen.

Never again will you have to hold your phone backwards to take a picture or shoot a video!

cool but another 10$

The update will be pretty cool probaly bringing us all the features u guys have been winning about for 3 year. The crap part is it will cost at least $10 for ipod touch users, including me.

What about the gameing system built into an apple tv?

Still waiting for the netbook!

ADD much?

So I'm a little confused on this supposed meeting this Tuesday. What sort of confirmation do we have besides a rumor and a nice graphic?

Copy pics?

So no copy/paste of pics? I remember an app developer once proclaiming that Apple was waiting on copy/paste cause they wanted to make it extra useful with things like copying pics, multiple clipboards, (un)stylized paste, etc. I suppose it was a nice dream.

Maybe we can copy pics just by holding our finger on them, like we would to save or open it's link, and there will be a menu with "Copy," along with "Save Photo" and sometimes "Open Link."
And if the photo was already in your photos app and you wanted to copy it, there could be a copy option to the right of name of the folder (such as "saved photos") and the picture number (such as 454 of 456).
Pasting the photo on the other hand is something I have yet to figure out a way to implement.

Cut & Paste is so 1983 !

Cut & Paste

That was 25 years ago!

All they have to do is offer a new, cool form factor and it'll sell just fine. For the past year Apple has been selling a technologically obsolete cellphone and it has been selling just fine. Have you been in an Apple Store lately? All these teenage girls have to do, after seeing the new design, is smile and wink at daddy and he'll get them one. They don't know and probably don't care how much RAM it has, as long as it goes well with their new handbag.

It appears you have confused the iPhone target market with the pink and blue iPod nano, pink RAZR, pink Dell notebook, and Sidekick target market.

That's a little my thought too, although you are wrong with Apple's strategy.
Apple didn't release an iPhone just to make it look sleek and sexy so all the girls can get it, it's a revolutionary phone and is by far not obsolete!

Cut & Paste is going to be such a relief for basic functions like emailing and copying a url.

BUT to get real work done - while doing significant amounts of text entry and writing - Apple needs to come out with a WIRED or BLUETOOTH EXTERNAL KEYBOARD.

That will finally turn the iPhone into a serious work machine.
