:D:D:D I think if they designed the iPhone to be a 'serious work machine' they'd have included these things from the start.

I don't know about you but I type well on the iPhone and I'm someone with big, thick fingers. People should stop complaining about the keyboard. Most of my posts on this forum (all on the past two pages) have been done on an iPhone. Try using an app like the thumb to increase your speed and accuracy. In fact the only pain in the butt has been the auto correct function.

The only features it's now missing is the ability to edit word documents and search emails. Quickbooks has already announced that it will be adding this feature in an update this year. I expect with this announcement on Tuesday that there will be system-wide spotlight that the developers can take advantage of.

Take 3 minutes and watch the video that Arn posted on the front page.

I think a lot of you should go re-watch the video.

He NEVER SAYS no MMS. Someone shouts it out and he says...

"I didn't hear about MMS, I didn't hear anything about that, so I don't know if it's coming."

Why is everyone freaking out already about MMS......again. There is no confirmation here.

The quote that gets my attention is the one "his source" said...

"Copy & Paste, and brings us up to speed with all the Palm Pre stuff."

Well if thats true we will see MMS, Full Bluetooth functionality (File Transfer/A2DP), some sort of management of apps and background processes coming to 3.0.

That gets me excited. I also expect to see some partners brought up on stage to introduce or preview some new games (maybe premium content?).

Thank You. You pretty much covered everything I was going to post!

And as far as this video recording remark he made as not being available because of hardware limitations or whatever, well, I can believe that. Sure, maybe Apple doesn't want to allow video recording on the current iPhone because it wouldn't be at the best (Apple) quality that they would like it to be. Which leads me on to believe that's why it will be in the next updated (hardware) version announced in June....I hope. :D

Almost a decent pda...

Yay! Half way there to making the iPhone into a decent PDA. Now just give us system wide search ability and a way to sync notes back and fourth with the desktop.

They also need to include syncronization for Tasks in outlook and add a task app to the phone. NOW THAT is BS. Not being able to sync tasks. come on! Copy and paste? I don't care if it comes or not. I hardly ever need it.

I'm pretty sure the person that mentioned copy/paste on Mac back in 1983 was just being a smartarse.
And did you ever consider that people may not switch phone or computers because they have faith in the product and it's future updates?

well it wasnt only one person thats for sure
ha they certainly should have confidence in their products and updates but thats not what im hearing on this forum at all.... or any other forums.. they start off good sharing ideas and hopes and move to compaint after complaint after complaint

well there were no public ADVERTISEMENTS for the iphone showing actual background work
on the keynote yes.. but if you listened to the keynote not just look at the pictures you would here steve jobs say that they are working on it and its not going to be on for a while.... yes they said it would be on in september but... well you cant always trust deadlines, dont be discouraged itll get here

Exactly my thoughts. They may have been overwhelmed with all the apps in the apps store...
Just think about how much memory it would take up if we had say even four pages of apps running in the background!
And maybe they didn't want to mess up this service like they did with another one.. *cough* *cough* Mobile Me *cough* *cough*

Very nice. Single-tap to move cursor (a trick I didn't immediately realize you can already do) tap-hold if you need to move WITHIN a word, or double-tap to select--with the default being a whole word rather then only part. All simple enough.

I was expecting copy/paste to somehow use the lens, which would have been awkward needless screen clutter.

YEAH. They're complaining that all their "idea" aren't met or something that was supposed to happen, didn't. It's life, get used to it. People will never be happy and there's always something that can be improved or added to make something better.

and a lot of business don't use it because you can't store and edit documents, spreadsheets, etc.

and yeah, the past 8 years have been a blast. but hey, at last our new president will allow dissenting voices like yours to be heard and considered.

You want to edit spreadsheets? Get MobileFiles Pro. $10 at the app store. The maker of it said word documents will come later this year.

yep, hah mobile me, hahahah good one :D

ugggghhhh

I am so mad at myself. I drove by there yesterday and didnt know what was going on. I wish I knew what was going on cuz I would have loved to have gone! (p.s. its okay I went and got a freebird to fill my belly):D:D:D

Last night I attended the Live Diggnation event in Austin, Texas at SXSW, where Kevin Rose confirmed through his sources that iPhone 3.0 would have Copy and Paste.

He said it worked like this... you would press and hold a word and a Magnifier type bubble would appear with quotes around the word. Move the quotes around what you want selected and then you can press Copy.

Also confirmed no MMS for this release.

Confirmed that there would be no background apps, but he says that what Apple has coming will wipe away any advantages that Palm has touted with its Pre handheld.

Also confirmed no video due to a hardware limitation with the NAND memory that Apple uses. The amount of writing and IO to the memory could cause issue with the phone hardware, so it's out of the question.

You can see this all on the Diggnation that will air next week.

I have a jailbroken and unloacked iPhone and guess what? I do EVERYTHING but copy/paste with many free and some paid Installer applications. I have video, VOIP, MMS and background applications. I use background to keep Pandora or Flycast going while I check my e-mail (which also stays running ALL THE TIME) and surf the web with NO ISSUES. Just another Apple ploy to get you to shell out more $$ mid-year for a new phone with all the features that have been on many phones for the last 3-years or longer.

No thanks - I will look at the Pre when it comes out.

D

LMAO for real.. if you people hate apple so much and everything they do sucks so bad then how about you all switch to pcs and other smart phones then delete your accounts on this apple fan site and stop complaining:cool::D

I really have no idea where you get that I hate Apple out what I said. I just hate that people complain about, what I think, is an untouchable phone on the market right now. And I'm not complaining. I wan't people to stop complaining about things like copy and paste.

AMEN!!! I type way fast and accurate on the iPhone and I don't see what the big problem is at all.

I do wish they would add global landscape keyboard though for all the Americans with fat fingers lol (I'm American). It just makes sense!

Agreed. I'd rather wait for something complex then have a crappy semi-done version. That being said I think there are some things they should be able to implement without such a big issue.

LOL. I'm an American with skinny/normal/non-sausage fingers and I'm able to type fine, but I'd like landscape just because it allows for better viewing on some things. :)

Who cares????? copy and paste? Whats the big deal unless the iPhone is your only means of communicating I guess.

who the freak is Kevin Rose?

I dunno, let me email you an address so you can manually type it into google maps while you're at a stoplight or drivig down the road. Or maybe you want to memorize that fedex tracking number so you can go to the fedex tracking and type it in. Or maybe I'd like to make an intelligent reply to an email or post without quoting 5 pages of useless crap to reply to one question in the middle.

What do you do with your iPhone? Anything intelligent at all? Seriously. How old are you? 15? Why am I bothering to reply to this idiotic comment?

I'm just happy that copy and paste and a new app launcher interface is coming.

You don't really need either but it will make life way easier.

LOL! Yeah, that's why they're trying to shut down talk radio and get rid of the secret bally in union elections.

Apple may be holding off on background apps until hardware 3.0 in June. Apple may still view the current iPhone hardware as being technically impossible to have background apps for. This could also give good reason for first generation iPhone owners to upgrade.

This talk about NAND flash needing to being able to write to hardware too many times seems like nonsense considering Apple offers a flash option on the MBP's. This again could seem like something that has more to do with the lousy camera in the current iPhones and should be available in hardware 3.0 should Apple increase the quality of the camera.

I don't know what features that would bring it up with the pre (except system-wide spotlight) because the thing that have people amazed by the pre is really the GUI. I hope Apple really upgrades the UI so it looks as graphically impressive as the pre. The Pre has been fortunate as this year provides a huge technological jump in processors not seen since the original iPhone.

Lastly, things like MMS may not be shown on Tuesday because Apple may not deem it important enough. What I would look for besides a UI overhaul, would be for developers to get deeper access to the hardware. I expect full access to the camera and Bluetooth.

I concur with most of this.
Kevin Rose maybe be annoying but I think he may be correct here. The preview of the iphone 3.0 SDK will probably only have cut and paste and a few other tidbits but no true multitasking.
The iphone and iphone 3G is generation one hardware. I consider the iphone 3G as still generation one because all it is is the original iphone with a 3G chip.

The TRUE iphone 2.0 (and I say 2.0 meaning true second generation hardware) will be coming in June.
It will be that device that will have true multitasking and probably video too. And that will fulfill what Kevin said about Apple showing something that will take away all the advantages of the Palm Pre and its WebOS.

So don't be too dissapointed if Tuesday you don't see any multitasking or video or any background apps. That you will have to wait till June for.

Live Diggnation? Kevin Rose?

What freaking world am I living in? Who is this internet persona and why does anyone at this looser convention have an inside scoop on the iPhone's new firmware?

Halp... Halp!!
