Thanks. So why is this Kevin dude privy to iPhone info and why do people think he is credible for this?

I wouldn't go as far as saying he's "credible", but he was after all the first person to give a very very accurate description of the current gen nano and if not mistaken even posted a photo of it before anyone else.

I'm not too sure, and I think his credibility is based on his previous predictions.
I at the end of last August / beginning of last September when I first heard about him he predicted iTunes 8, how it would look, and it's new features. If I recall correctly he was spot on with everything!

Most of my posts are done with an iPhone because it's usually closest to hand.

Copy and Paste will make things more convenient but I'd suspect that the 3.0 firmware will include features for hardware revisions, as C&P and homepage/springboard wouldn't require 4 months' pre-notification for developers.

there will be cut and paste someday or just buy a cut and paste app.

but i can't trust everything Kevin Rose say's, he once said that the mac studio lcd monitors has secondary pixel technology, back when he was host of the screen savers on techTV.

If C&P are the only major things that are coming to 3.0 and graphical changes it will not even touch the Pre. I cant believe how many old phones can do background apps and iPhone cant. Apple has to have at least 3 background apps somehow, but only 2 days till they reveal 3.0 so we just gotta wait.

It will air next week?

Useful, considering we'll see exactly what 3.0 has coming on Tuesday anyway.

The irony is this story links to a page with flash that the iPhone can't play. Most smart phones can. Google the REAL reason there is no flash and you'll get dozens of hits saying Apple fears Adobe Apps vs Apples App store. Good thing that millions of contracts about to expire with phones like the Pre on the horizen. Forces Apple out of their corner. Good. Serves them right. The iPhone will be all that much better.

Not having copy, paste, mms, video ( all about the App store folks) is a sham.

Let me make sure I understand this.

Copy and Paste? Check.

MMS? Nope.

Video? Nope.

Background Apps? Nope.

So where on earth is the "+more" part?

Seems like he is saying all the rumored stuff is NOT coming to the new firmware.

I mean, they surely are not going to go from 2.2 to 3.0 and only bring Copy and friggin Paste to the table?

Right?

I totally agree with you. if all they do is add copy & paste, they should just call it 2.3.

The iphone does background apps but Apple at this point hasn't been willing to allow third parties to do background apps. A point has to be made that all of the current phones out there, such as android, suffer serious battery life issues. Nobody knows how this affects the pre but if it still has good battery life, this will hopefully light a fire under the butts at cupertino.

Personally, I think the best solution is a combination of the push notification system (if it works) and background apps. With this combination you'll at the very most 3 apps running at the same time. Most would only use it for streaming radio.

Btw apple if you're reading this: I'm already sick of seeing aqua on my mac so can you please get rid of it on my iPhone by the time snow leopard comes out? I'm thinking a marble interface all across the board ala MobileMe/iWork.com

This would be awesome if it were included in the 1.0 iphone release. At this point?... seriously... copy and paste becomes a huge focal point?

LOL. I'm an American with skinny/normal/non-sausage fingers and I'm able to type fine, but I'd like landscape just because it allows for better viewing on some things. :)

Same here, I agree. It is honestly so easy to type fast on the iPhone.

It is pathetic to me the problems we have in this country because people are so freaking fat!

I agree with most of you. Copy and paste is nice but hardly worth all the excitement.

Here's what I would be excited about:

Push notifications (obviously)

Ability to switch between apps like apple+tab does in osx. I see no reason why the iphone can't do with 512mb of ram what the palm pre does with 256mbs of ram.

Better mobile me across the board (sync notes, tasks, idisk access)

A week view in Calendar app (it drives me nuts that i can't look at my entire week and see when i'm free)

I really like the Pre's little news feed at the bottom and the conversation stream with all your social networks in one.

Redesigned dock (allow more apps on the bottom, dock should always be accessible with hiding (like in osx)

Pictures of people in contacts list, also added info pulled from social networks (facebook, myspace etc)

Come on apple! :)

I told my brother it might have Copy and Paste and he said "err, why would I need that?" - Which I think is the view of the majority of iPhone users. I would like it - I can think of specific situations in which to use it... but if he has never needed it, I can't think why he suddenly would.

Most people are not coming to the iPhone from a smart phone. They had a series-30 nokia or similar, and haven't used copy and paste at all. In fact, the last time they did may have been when writing in Word - which they might not even do now they're out of school.

I hope more comes with 3.0.

Right...so the iPhone is only just getting what my crappy Motorola v220 has (copy and paste).

But what I really wanna know is- when is the Finder in Leopard getting a blummin' REFRESH button? I connect to PC folders via Samba, and have to disconnect and reconnect all the time, to see new folder contents...grr...=P Apple are swish, but they overlook some basics...

See I thought that backgrounding was the advantage with the Pre. What else does the Pre have?

I think a large part of what this is in reference to is a notification system of incoming emails, text messages, etc. Both Android and the Pre have a notification system that is both informative and subtle so you are alerted without being interrupted. As of now, the iPhone only notifies for text messages and goes, "Look at me! Look at me! I'm a new text message! You can close me if you want to reply later but you still have to look at me! Look at me!"

P.S. Is anyone else annoyed that you don't get calls while watching video? Is it the same for games (I don't have any)?

You guys are missing the point. I can type fast on my iPhone, at least, fast enough. The problem is that if you want to type at a reasonable speed, it takes a lot of concentration, and crucially, you have to watch the screen very closely to see when you are making errors, and when your fingers are getting off where they should be. You have to play this little game with the auto correct will it or won't it?

That's fine for some situations. But often it's not. For example, in a lecture, meeting, with friends etc. You don't want to have to hunch over your phone with 100% concentration to the exclusion of all other things. I can sit in a meeting and hold a conversation while typing on my laptop, and what I'm typing doesn't even have to be related to the conversation. Not so the iphone.

I don't want any crappy plastic slide out or fold out keyboard. One major feature of the iphone for me is the form factor, which is so not-phone. What I want is a fixed bluetooth stack so I can use a remote keyboard- maybe even a flexi mini keyboard would be great. But Apple know that most people use their laptops for just typing notes and surfing the web, and don't want to canabolise sales. If the rumoured netbook thingy is true, all hope is lost.

I disagree... I type lazier on the iphone than a regular keyboard, i trust the auto correct and I'd say it works 95% of the time.

I totally agree about bluetooth. Apple needs to get its bluetooth situation together. I mean for crying out where's the A2DP?!?

First of all I don't trust a thing Kevin Rose says. He's like a Jesse Jackson to me...always has something to say.

I'm so easy to please: all I want from 3.0 is YouTube uninstalled! If I want it I'll download it!
