The copy and paste isn't fantastic but it is there and it didn't take two years+ for it to be implemented.
Of course it didn't two years to implement something poorly. Even developers that have produced copy and paste capable apps on the iPhone admit that Apple had a hurdle to overcome with copy/paste for the iPhone.

The low framrate is due to Apple's camera, not the video recording software, but then again at least it is there and didn't take two years+ to be implemented.
You're going have to explain that one to me.

r in mr?????

B). Kevin usually has better inside information than most analysts. Lets keep the R in MR in mind here.[/QUOTE]

Wish you folks would speak English.....:)

Still don't know who or what a Kevin Rose is......why doesn't he include a bio or a definition the next time....:D

So from this rumor it sounds as if the 3rd gen iPhone won't be a major leap in hardware that we all expect.

Who knows? We have no idea what's going in that hardware, if there even will be one this year (which there probably will, but still, no confirmation).

They could still add:
- 802.11n WiFi
- More RAM
- Better CPU,GPU
- Bigger Battery
- Better Camera w/ Flash
- Higher resolution screen
- Physical keyboard
- FM Radio
- Higher quality mic, speakers

Also, we don't know for sure why the iPhone can't record video. Apple have less limitations than even jailbreak software developers. It's possible the hardware can do it, but the underlying software system limits it for some reason (may be limited by performance of software which typically only takes still pictures).

Take what Kevin Rose says with a grain of salt. I watched a few episodes of Diggnation. One particular episode, he goes on describing features that the Kindle 2 doesn't have, almost going into a lying tirade of apparently false advertising. Alex (whatever the hell his last name is) stopped him when he said these were features he "wish were in the Kindle 2"

I stopped watching all things related to Kevin Rose or Digg a while back. I can usually avoid Digg by actually reading Google News or other RSS feeds.

I got tired of waiting so I just went ahead and JailBroke it.

*snip*

DOES NOT SLOW THE iPhone DOWN (no matter what anyone says.. there is even video to prove it is just as fast), and it allows for almost endless possibilities.

If it doesn't slow to a crawl within 10 days without a restart, I'll be incredibly surprised. Something associated with jailbreaking had a 100% repeatable memory leak for me.

Do you guys honestly think Apple is going to hold a press conference/news event to announce JUST copy & paste? Maybe even a new folder structure, and that's it?

Even if Apple also announces the rumored Premium App Store too, it would still be a lame-duck even that would lower Apple's stock.

They wouldn't do that. Apple will announce some other features. Part of the reason they are doing this is to get potential phone switchers who's contracts are up to "hold off" until the summer.

I know I am.
i agree i feel some sort of push notifcations will come
I would also love announcment for push Gmail

I sure hope c/p is not the showcased feature of 3.0. I can see it now at media event; "cut and paste...boy have we patented it!" *all fanboys stand up and clap like this is the first time they heard "cut" and "paste" in same sentence* Please Apple, don't release basic smartphone operations and act like we are lucky to have them. Ah, the drama...

So, if the hardware still can't handle video recording (when "lesser" phones can), I don't think people should be expecting a big hardware update, but more like no update in RAM or processor.

Wow! That's amazing! Is it because you jailbroke your phone? Something entirely new that no one has ever heard of?!??! You're so cool! OMGBBQ

(Apple's implementation of copy/paste sounds much better than clippy)

Well, I would ****ing hope so, these the devs making these C&P apps dont really have full access to the OS. If they did, I'm damn sure there would have been perfect C&P solutions a long time ago.

Also, since when is video recording not considered a 'basic feature'? It's been on every single ****** cell phone Ive owned for years. It humors me how so many here apologize for Apple, with some weird explanation of technical limitations that prevent video recording on the phone. Come on guys. Stop setting your standards so low when it comes to Apple.

Is anyone else incredulous that people are talking about the ability to cut and paste text as if it's the second coming. Maybe, given what a new and unique feature it is, they might have to just add paste for now and give us the cut in a later date.

I wish apple would allow me to set a picture in the background where the apps are, even if it's slightly blurred to emphasize on the apps rather than the background, Just seeing that amount of space just being wasted makes me cringe.

Let me make sure I understand this.

Copy and Paste? Check.

MMS? Nope. Version 4

Video? Nope. Version 5

Background Apps? Nope. Version 6

Lol. Well Video would put it past the Palm Pre. (Can we call it PP?)

I'd expect MMS + Background Apps or real working push. (Which would work for AIM and other such things...)

I just look at the PP and it does look pretty sweet with the UI. I like how it says what App you're in right on the top and how the Calendar works.

To me "setting your standards low" is using a phone as a video recorder.

So... if it'll be previewed on the 17th or whenever. How long do you guys think it will be till its released? Certainly hope we won't have to wait for 4-5 month as we waited for the 2.0 firmware...

C&P should have been on the phone since last summer, but its absence certainly hasn't hindered successful sales ....YET.

If very little happens to improve hardware and software of the phone this year, it'll skid to a major slowdown in sales at present prices.

I suspect the next iPhone update this year will bring a bump in most all aspects. They are spending all their time engineering smaller insides to all devices, so they'll probably minimally jam up memory/battery. 32GB minimal for the high end model, maybe as much as 64GB.

The iPhone will never have a physical keyboard

Unless of course someone releases an add-on keyboard which plugs into the dock connector... But somehow I doubt Apple would allow it to be used...

I stopped watching all things related to Kevin Rose or Digg a while back. I can usually avoid Digg by actually reading Google News or other RSS feeds.

Well... yeah... I do kinda agree with you... The show, an to an extent the whole community got quite trashy in the years...

Why do people care so much about MMS? MMS sucks. I'd rather send an email or an image link in an IM (via Beejive) or post a photo to Flickr than send a MMS message.

I remember back in Canada with Roger's MMS messages cost me like $0.50 each!

Yes, you're right. Because everybody in this world has a phone that supports emails or IM. MMS has been a standard on all phones for years. Last time I urgently had to send a picture to a friend but couldn't, so I had to take out my 5 year old Nokia (luckily I had it with me) and send it through that.
All I had to do was send the picture from one to the other by blueto.. uh nevermind, I meant I had to take the picture again in even worse quality and then send it.

As far as I am concerned, this rumoured implentation from the OP concerning iPhone cut, copy & paste (and WHY ON EARTH IS EVERYONE NOT USING ALL THREE TERMS???) sounds quite feasible and tasteful, really. Apple likes making tasteful implementations of their advertised features (think the still-not-delivered Push Notifications when it was announced).

And I sincerely hope that Apple makes a concerted effort to spotlight other apps (including streaming audio/video apps) at their big announcement Tuesday.

BJ

I think it's great that it's finally coming, but to me, this is the equivalent of an OS X update that changes a Finder menu or something. It really shouldn't be such a big deal. However, Apple has held out for so long that this has become something huge, which is sad (in a way).

iPhone users are so starved for requested features to be implemented that a simple thing like copy and paste is a headliner. :p Wait until MMS is implemented in 2010. That thread will get 300 replies, easy. :p

Physical keyboard would be awesome. Typing on the touch screen can be a pain in the butt!!!

Copy and paste will be really useful. I could care less if it had video recording or not. I think I'll stick with my video camera for video recording. Seems to me that video recording on a cellphone is only useful for numbskulls who like putting videos of their goofy friends on youtube. :D

I am having trouble figuring out if you are being sarcastic or stupid.

I'd say:

The new 3.0 software will have a host of Updates simply to keep it up to date with current trends and of course the upcoming Pre.

Video will roll out ONLY on the new iPhone which will rock out around June/July which will have more ram to deal with video recording.. (As stated they have a Ram issue with the old iPhones, so this will be fixed in the new ones to deal with Video Recording).

I'd also say it's gonna be slimmer, but screen will be the same size (No Nano iPhone will ever come out as all the Apps designed for the iPhone would look crap)

That's just a guess!! But that's what am thinking...
