haha defiantly if I'm gonna be signing up for another 24 month plan I want all the attention I deserve

Yeah the GPS/maps was in the back of my mind! but yeah 500mb should be fine. I need a good txting plan, that's gonna be the killer for me

agreed.
im a txt-a-holic..... as in i txt with my eyes shut and predictive off at high-speeds...
so much that my thumbs start hurting after a while... but no matter.

do you think telstra will provide us with a good txting deal at all?

It'll be a cold cold day in hell before Apple lets Telstra touch its iPhone.
I hopping the forecast for July 11 is for heavy snow and rain and -15 degrees :p

I doubt they will, They will concentrate on data we cant ask for too much :p

I cant think of anything worse than predictive txt lol

I think there's a good possibility we could get a good amount of txt, I mean if they could do it with hiptop then y not. You can understand with data because obviously the iphone would use alot more.

lets just hope for something better than this

Question is, will the GPS work with offline maps? I know you can get an offline google maps app for the 1st gen iPhone now.

I think he was referring to Telstra badging on the iPhone/apps. Though the ironic timing of that statement is hilarious :)

i hope , with an app like TomTom, GPS will work offline/ we get to download a maps package, because loading maps all the time would probably chew up data something fierce

The current Maps caches work pretty well. I've currently got most of Sydney city (medium & fully-zoomed) cached for offline viewing. The bookmarks also seem to work offline.

oh.
i didnt know it cache'd lol.

@ tominated: im looking for pre-paid as well..
but data kills pre-paid. so they would have to offer some kind of data bundle. :D

Given Telstra's pricing, I think it's safe to assume:

8gb: A$1000*

16gb: A$1100 - A$1200*

*based off total cost of $30 contract over 24 months plus up front cost. Flamers will be dealt with sarcastically.

well.
i guess today is not the day for releasing iPhone prices.
sigh.
maybe tomorrow.
how many people think they will be able to get their hands on an iPhone day 1?

on MacTalk there has been a rumour of a Midnight opening.
im not getting up at midnight..
humph.

buts its pretty big, wouldnt they have optus stores etc.

Yeah well its population is about 60k & we have 2 telstra a vodafone and 2 optus so we probly will get it *fingers crossed* + they've just started selling the hiptop slide here now so i guess that's a good sign

im sure youll be set then
although, i got the hiptop at my telstra store ages ago....

TeleChoice - Corner Elizabeth & La Trobe in Melbourne Central told me today that they will be opening on midnight for the iPhone launch.

Oh, and here is something from GadgetGuy's web site (take it with a grain of salt, as he normally talks crap).

http://www.gadgetguy.com.au/blog.asp?m_blog=149

$100 per month pre paid cap plan that includes you $800 worth of calls, $100 worth of Optus 'My Time' calls, and, wait for it, a hefty 1GB of data transfers.

As for the cost of buying an iPhone, while an outright price is still unknown, our source suggested that Optus will sell it for $239 on a 12 month contract.
