can someone explain these prices to me? I don't understand how these plans work.

What's the Monthly handset repayments?

arn

say on a 12month plan, for $49 a month (cap)

$49 goes towards calls, texts etc.

but, instead of paying for a phone upfront, you pay monthy installments as kind of a "loan" until you pay off the phone..

for example...
16GB iPhone, on a $49 a month cap for 12months...
you would have to pay an extra $47 on top of that per month for actually owning the iPhone...
meaning that the toal cost per month = $96...

this figure is for both the phone (p/m) and the service (p/m)

makes sense?

I think they're better than the current 2c per kb that Vodafone is offering on their new cap plans.

Has anyone talked to Optus about upgrading to the iPhone on a 24 month contract if you're still under contract?

I have 6 months left of a 24 month contract with Vodafone and am using this as a gauge to whether to switch to Optus or not.

Monthly handset repayments mean you don't have to pay for the handset in one hit when you go in.

So on a $79 plan, either cap or "yes plan" you pay nothing for the 8GB phone.

The plans are actually quite good in comparison with past plans.

Outright prices are about right, most phones are that price when you buy them straight up.

Unlocking fee for the prepaid is $80 Aus within the first 6 months.

Termination fee for the 24 months ranges from $400 Aus to $1139 Aus.

im guessing too many hits lol.
so tell me, does anyone have a spare $250 they want to lend me at all?
:p

i kid, i kid.

who is going pre-paid with optus?

am i right in saying that Optus is the first company that has offered unlocking of the iPhone?

I want to buy one outright and unlock it, and can choose from any US or Australian telecom (i am about to leave Australia for US), but it looks like i'm stuck with buying it from Optus.

Any ideas?

I had decided to go on pre-paid but at $849 I don't think it's worth it.

I've decided on the $59 Yes Cap Plan (500MB + $350 calls/text). Of course on top of that I have to pay those BS handset repayments which adds $7 per month. Looks like I'm stuck for 2 years.

All of a sudden the pre-paid option is looking more inviting :p

i mean monthly, because i would be paying $19 out of store for my plan, but then you have to add on the phone price which would be $x , how much would that extra be?

12 months $61 + $19 = $80 [*12months] = $960

24 months $26 + $19 = $45 [*24months] = $1080

F**king Australian import taxes.

$13 billion in excess tax and they still rip their citizens off.

Inflation... yes.

I also have a theory that pretty much explains the reason behind every problem in the world.

80% of the world's population are morons :)

with 19.99% being of average intelligence..

then there's that .01%, which houses a few gems...... (points to self)
:p

oh thats crazy talk.
gems come in different carats....

mine = infinite.

just to clear that up....

come on vodafone and telstra plans...

Honestly I'm thinking of switching now. My whole family is with Optus so I can probably get some sort of free calls deal out of them.

Vodafone better have a good data deal and let me upgrade my current contract if they want me for another two years.

I've never seen an Optus Wi-Fi hotspot in Sydney. Have they teamed up with any businesses?

well i just woke up!!

i think its a ripp on the data, so i will be going the $49 so far.

Can you switch between contracts over the 24 mnth period? coz if i only use the $19cap 100mb there is no need for a $49?:D

ahhh, vodafone, i pine for you

Would you buy iPhone 3G?

Would you buy iPhone 3G prepay for $729(8GB) and $849(16GB) and
