dw bout my last question, you can downgrade your contract after 6mnths

good.
because if i start paying $59 a month for stuff i dont need, ill want to downgrade quick smart.

@ Great121, how much were you expecting the iPhone to be? $849 is a decent price.

so are the recharges.

optus have a notable lack of a kick ass iPhone feature...
NO VISUAL VOICEMAIL :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

you are kidding.
thats one of the features that seperates it from other phones....
lets hope telstra or vodafone supports it ....

I just hope Telstra come up with a kickass plan to whoop Optus but I think Vodafone will have the best plan out of all three of them :)

BTW Telstra better have Vis Voice Mail

i just want the plans to come out now so i can stop fretting and start getting excited.

god, ive had no life these past few days :p

I'm not sure what plan to choose. This is my situation...

At the moment I'm on an Optus corporate plan from AAGEEESS ago that has 'yes'time and good old 'yes'weekend with 18c/30 seconds peak rate and 9c/30 secs off-peak rate.

I only got a 3G phone a few months ago, and for some reason since I activated 3G services on my SIM, I haven't been charged for WAP? I don't know if it's because it's a corporate plan that I don't get charged for it or if it's some kind of remarkable billing error.

My phone bill averages to about $30-$40 a month though it can fluctuate even higher if I have SMSed a fair amount. Most of my talk time is during 'yes'time.

Before these rates came out I was inclined to buy the phone pre-paid/outright and continue using my current plan. I was prepared to pay around $800 for the 16GB anyway, thus the price is reasonable.
But now, I'm tempted to go on the $49 cap, seeing as though I pay around that much on my current plan anyway, AND it comes with data. HOWEVER I don't know if I will use the data. AND if I continue to get free data as per above, I don't need the new plan.

So what should I do...hmmm

EDIT:
Now if Optus came out with add-on data plans that would be perfect...
Guess I'll just wait for the cheapest pre-paid iPhone, though I suspect they should all be the same.

Unfortunately it looks like I'm out. I just spoke to a guy at a Vodafone store who was offering pre-purchase of iPhones on contract and Vodafone will not let me end my contract 6 months early to sign up for another 24 months.

Next step is to call a manager to see why they won't let us out early considering:

1) We've been on contract for the last 18 months.
2) The original phones we were given died within 6 months. Took them back for repair 3 times before being told "there's nothing we can do".
3) We ended up buying new phones outright to replace these.
4) Both of us have been over our alotted cap more than a few times.

If they can't do anything for me I'll either move to Optus or wait another 6 months for the contract to finish.

see,
i dont know why they dont let you...
you are forking out extra cash to them after all...

i think i might go voda. pre-paid... those pre-paid maxi cap things seem good.

the plans aren't that bad, except for the data amounts.

would have been nice to be able to "bolt on" to any plan 1gb for $20, or "double your data for $10" (something different!)

Well, the game continues. I called Vodafone's loyalty and retentions and told them how I was unable to upgrade and they said more or less

"We can't offer anything because we don't know what the plans will be just yet".

They were very interested in the guy who was offering pre-purchases however. Apparently that wasn't authorised.

the business rates for bolt-on data were actually reasonable -
NON-CONTRACT RATES
Pay / Get
$29.99 1GB
$44.99 2GB
$59.99 6GB
Excess Usage 15c/MB

CONTRACT RATES
Monthly Spend / Data per month / Excess Usage
$5 5MB 31c MB
$15 30MB 31c MB
$19.99 1GB 15c MB
$34.99 2GB 15c MB
$49.99 6GB 15c MB

Hey not bad, I might consider that then. Nice find!

I was planning to use my current (business) plan and buy a pre-paid iPhone. So I hope it works.

ah, might be the best way to go about it! i imagine then you could use whatever plan/bolt ons that you would like.

i just don't want to pay for the iphone outright... $900 or so... no thanks!

Optus wifi Hotspots-pathetic compared to Telstra
https://rego.optusnet.com.au/wireless/locations.html
Telstras

I couldn't find any for vodafone.

I can't work out Optus's plans too confusing. I can't see the benefit of buying it outrigt when you still have to pay a big monthly bill. I'm use to Three pricing (we pay a couple of dollars a month and there is no flag fall)

I'm relying on this thread to consolidate all the plans and to reccommed the best deal.

Haha yeh $850 isn't bad for the 16GB considering the SE K850 and Nokia N95 8GB RRP are $999+ when they were first released. It IS a smartphone afterall. I was expecting around this much. Definately not cheaper than an iPod Touch!

I think I might buy the 16GB pre-paid, and abuse the free data until the end of August before chucking in my current SIM. Haha! :D

well.
telstra and vodafone havent put anything out today, as of yet.
sigh. i think ill go back to bed :D

btw. STRATHFIELD is taking $50 deposits for the iPhone 3G.

just thought id mention it.
