Just Speculation... oh thank god! if i go to optus store in Adelaide and there sold out, ill be pretty dam not happy lol...

However, seeing as im in Adelaide, and there aint that many people in this little city, im hoping not many people will even know what an apple iphone is here! haha!

Mite get up early just in case...
Anyone know what the timing (opening) is for everyone? or is this still to be released seein as i havnt heard anything from anyone and im preregisted with everyone for everything ha!

:)

Oh! ok... so, you will still be able to use the itunes oand App store on your phone, but instead of simply using the "optus 3G connection" you need to be over a broadband wifi connection. that makes sense...

Thank-you :)

And why is everyone saying that there will be limited iphones everywhere and noone will get them and they will all sellout? where did this info come from?

contacting many optus stores

That would be very appreciated :):)

no i was mistaken, it seems that you can download direct to your iPhone over a Wi-Fi connection. for some reason I thought you could only purchase the music, but had to wait to download it on your home computer.

this link explains how the US system works.

i wouldn't be surprised if we don't get the Wi-Fi store immidiatly upon the iPhone's release here in Australia though. i suppose we have to wait and see exactly what that statement meant (itunes 7 and broadband required.)

Apparently Vodafone's not releasing anything until friday, and any reseller that doesn't do a certain amount of signups a month will not have any in stock for another month.
At the moment Vodafone doesn't even have a stock count so no idea on how many are going to be out there for sale on the day.

"And if you’ve only partially downloaded a song to iPhone or iPod touch, your computer completes the download automatically."

hey, thats pretty cool.

You're totally wrong, a Vodafone rep just told me they won't be releasing them at all until next month! :p

Just kidding, satrah what's your source, or are you just spreading FUD? I have it on good authority that they will be released tomorrow, and a few other members have reported that too. Vodafone must have some idea on how many they're getting in since they ordered them.

I really doubt they'd release the plans on launch day. Unless they want people to go to Optus :)

EDIT: Seeing how you just joined today and this is your first post, I'm calling shenanigans on you.

I am a vodafone reseller and our sources have all told us that information.
It was only today that the vodafone support guys told us that much information.
Also it could be as late as august 11 that new stock will be available once there current stock sells out.

anyone heard anything about wether optus is going to have enough stock for people who want to buy it, yet didnt pre-register with the $100 deposit?

i've decided to buy it outright with optus and dont want to miss out this friday!!

I went to an Optus and a Telechoice and both said that those who have paid a deposit will get an iPhone, though they don't know how many they will get. Not looking good for those who haven't paid a deposit.

Also, any news on whether people with months left on an Optus contract can upgrade to an iPhone plan without any charge?

Am i doomed

Ok so where should i go, any particular shops and at what time? I am sure that after not releasing the iphone in aus for over a year that they will not run out of it on its first day of sale. that is just ridiculous

wolsow, priesty, no one knows this stuff. We're all in the same boat. The only people who are guaranteed are Optus deposit-payers - and even then no one's sure about that.

Satrah, I take back my comment of shenanigans however my money's still on today. The delay until August wouldn't surprise me, although I'd be very disappointed in Apple if that's the case. Maybe we can steal some of the Canadians iPhones since they seem to be all boycotting Rogers anyway :)

EDIT: Sorry suprnovaynwa, didn't see your post. I found this in the Terms and Conditions, but you'd be best asking an Optus rep to clarify. Interested to know how it goes, and whether a credit check is necessary for existing customers as well.
You must be a new or eligible existing customer who applies to connect to the Optus Mobile Digital service, and passes the Optus credit assessment and is accepted by Optus. Existing customers must demonstrate that over the three continuous months prior to applying that they have an average monthly spend equal to at least the monthly access fee of your new ‘yes’ iPhone Cap plan.

HoldFastHope,

Yeah, I was referring to that, but I wasn't really sure what that actually means, haha. I plan on calling later today, with a few more dozen questions as well. Why doesn't ANYONE know ANYTHING?! This is just ridiculous...

I'm assuming it means you just have to be on an equal or greater plan for the last three months.

Let me know how it goes, and god help me if Vodafone doesn't implement a similar policy.

Im #2 on the Telstra Chat queue any questions??

Im asking about Availability - Pre account setup before Friday and availability to buy online

Judging from Apple's AU website, there doesn't seem to be any indication that they'll be selling the iPhone. Anyone been down there and heard otherwise?

Ask how many stores will stock it, and if it sells out when they're getting more in.

Also ask about potential upgrades next year if they release v 3.0

EDIT: Oh, and if they're stocking 8/16/white versions

it would be quite surprising if Apples new Australain flagship store didn't carry the iPhone for its launch!

however carrying the iPhone would mean aligning with one, or all of the Australian carriers (optus, voda, telstra.) I can see that this might prove to be a big hurdle in selling in Apple stores. If you choose one provider then the others will probably get upset, and if you give purchasers the option of signing up with any of them, then thats a pretty complex task (as far as training staff etc.)

it's my guess that it will be only for sale with the telcos first.

Anyone else get the email from Optus just then?

Interestingly, there's quite a few stores participating in Sydney. Maybe there won't be as big a shortage as we thought.
