Okay guys, here we go. From department head at VFone:

Quote:
Yes, the first page of pricing (enclosed) is accurate and will be re-posted online within the hour - but we will point customers to the mobile payment plan pricing for the devices.

The second page - starting with the $29 Jumbo Cap and laddering up to the $149 MyBusiness Cap is still a work in progress and may not necessarily be available in its current form at launch.

I notice in those terms and conditions it says "In respect of other content, customers will only be able to receive content through the iTunes store through their personal computer". I remember Optus had something similar too. WTF? Do they mean they block the iTunes Store on the phone? if so, completely, or only via 3G? Either way, what do they care if they are charging ridiculous data rates anyway?

NEWS!

I just put my name down at my local Strathfield store as well as the deposit I made with Optus.

Very bad news. I spoke to the owner, they're getting their stock tomorrow and they're getting 3 prepaid iPhone's (1 in each configuation/colour) and 8 contracted iPhones.

They said they have one of the highest stock lists in Victoria and most store will be getting as many as 3.

Good luck to all on Friday, I've already got my two and a set appointment.

EDIT:Strathfield just called and said they are only getting white iPhones. NO black 16GB iPhone's at launch with Strathfield stores.

Be sure to let us know how it is :( Whereabouts are you anyway?

I'm still waiting for Vodafone to say it's all a terrible misunderstanding and offer me the iPhone for around Optus prices. And that I can upgrade early.

Was there any Telstra pricing yet? I remember there was some pricing, but did it have any details? What were the pricing again?

Thanks.

Broadband and music store.

alot of comments about needing wifi and itunes not being usable for a while are in need of attention. i own a working debut version of the iphone in australia and i am able to download off the australian store already and have been ever since i bought the phone at the start of this year. it would be the same system and therefore it will work immediatly it does require a wifi connection and cannot be accesed through the carriers network. I am also selling my iphone because it is apparent alot of people wanted it cheaper than it is. it works completely with all carriers, jailbroken etc and i will update to software 2.0 if need be. looking for $400 neg. email at brendon@aanet.com.au

You require WiFi to access the iTunes WiFi Music Store and all iPhones require an iTunes account for activation etc.

Some more Telstra details?

Ok guys, I live in a small NSW town (population 15,000-20,000) that has a Telstra shop locally.
Went in today to enquire about iPhone availability on Friday.

The following information is what I was able to gather (and standard disclaimer - I can only relay what I was told, and can't confirm any of it's accuracy, so if it turns out to be incorrect, which I think some of it may be, then don't blame me please!)

- "City" Telstra shops will launch the iPhone on Friday, "Country" Telstra shops expect to launch on Tuesday (15/07)
- This particular "Country" Telstra shop is expecting TWO iPhones. Employee unsure if 8/16GB, though stated "probably one of each."
- This employee had attended a Telstra iPhone internal briefing/training day yesterday. They had the official document in front of them. Around 30-50 pages of Telstra/iPhone details (a very professional looking document, lots of white space, and uses the iPhone icons towards the top-left of each page to indicate the pages content/chapter. )
- This document did NOT contain information about plans. This information is still expected to be announced on FRIDAY.
- HOWEVER, the employee could tell me that "there are no cap plans." IE if you sign up for the $80 plan, you get $70 included credit. None of this $49 for $xxx value "Cap" stuff happening on Telstra.
- The employee also stated that the announced information regarding plans, and initial cost of the iPhone was correct, and unchanged since it's announcement (ie plans range from min $30, and on an $80 plan you can get the iPhone for $0.)
- Data is UNLIMITED. Employee initially stated unlimited data over Telstra Wi-Fi. I asked about 3G data limits, and was told "3G data is unlimited also."
- There is a GREEN iPhone expected. I asked if this meant green in colour, or "green" as in environmentally friendly. The Telstra employee looked at me funny, and said "Green colour." (This seemed to be the most unsure response the employee gave.)

Take from this what you will.

I was unconvinced with the unlimited data and green iPhone claims (the employee seemed to be a little unsure.)
But was very convinced with the launch details, regarding Tuesday for country stores, plans announced Friday, and the "no Cap plans" information.

Oh, and I was the "first person in town" to ask about the iPhone :)

Since you guys are only getting two, can I shotgun the other? :)

Unlimited data... makes sense if they're not offering caps. I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Green iphone... I think he might be confused. Maybe the packaging is eco friendly.. hence the green?

It comes in green now, nice. Telstra have really excelled in intelligence this time. :)

Guys, is anyone able to tell from the Vodafone T&C's if you're able to upgrade to an iPhone plan if you're an existing contracted customer?

It's available as a pdf here, I just can't find it anywhere in the terms.

I'm still waiting for official confirmation but will most likely move to Optus.

If by some miracle I can get that sorted without paying extra before Friday then I will, if not then I'll be waiting for anywhere up to 3 - 6 months (contracted). Also wondering if customer backlash will force Vodafone to change their plans after launch.

Zero faith in Vodafone right now.

I'm not sure I'll sign up with Telstra, I really need some more information before i decide. I'm currently with virgin/optus and the coverage is 3g and decent.

And I don't know exactly what was meant by "green iPhone" i have a feeling it was supposed to be "eco-friendly" but the telstra employee misinterpreted things. when i asked "green colour" or "environmentally friendly" the telstra person had a look on their face like "what... i hadn't considered that... but green in colour sonds better... yeah lets go with that..."
