Just got off the phone with my local Telstra shop just to find out about the plan situation and he said that they just got an email this afternoon from Telstra and he said give me a minute and ill grab it so he did, once he got back to me he said there was no plan information about the iPhone but it said they will not be getting any iPhones until the end of this month  Well supose there is no real suprise there:(

I wonder if it is the same for the flagship stores???

QUESTION: I know the iPhone will cost $279 and $399 when you buy it with Telstra (I know it's free when you get certain plans so there is no need to correct me), but how much will it cost when you buy it with Optus? I'm not worried about the plans, I (I'm actually asking this question for a mate of mine) just want to know how much it will cost to buy, because then I plan on paying the $80 fee to unlock it completely (from Optus). Thanks.

$1224 is what i plan on spending over 24months
16gb, so i don't regret is in the long run, and $39 a month with 100free texts

i can't see any value in the straight "yes" plans. no matter which way i analyse it the "yes" cap plans seem to be much better value.

for me i think the sweet spot is the $59 "yes" cap plan. 500mb data and $350 of calls.

this table is really worth a look though - http://forums.mactalk.com.au/47/52261-official-optus-pricing-information.html

8GB iPhone 3G (Black)= $729

16GB iPhone 3G (Black or White)= $849

Telstra wifi would be sweet in the city, almost always connected to it in the CBD, that would be cool.

It sounds like rogers in canada might cave in and improve their data offerings due to public outcry, see HERE and HERE

And telia sonera in sweeden has already adjusted their data plans, see HERE

should we, concerned potential iPhone buying Australians, possibly have a campaign ready to go, just in case we get shafted by voda and telstra?

I can't imagine Telstra coming out with a competitive offering, given their history of data offerings. And I have no idea about what to expect from Vodafone.

Moderator Note:

There have been many many bumps in this thread and any more this thread is getting closed.

Also this thread is not for random chit chat and one word only posts.

That's what I would've thought. It's easy for those in the USA or UK to see that this thread says Australia and not click it if they don't wish to. I haven't seen any deliberate bumping in here and I don't see how the discussion in this thread is any different from that in any other thread on the forums.

We probably beat them in too much sport :p

Who's lining up in the wee hours of the early morning in Melbourne? I think i'll be catching the first train to Melbourne Central...will it be worth it?

off iphone
but did anyone know u can pre-order Mobile Me
or is this old news
http://store.apple.com/au/product/MB611Z/A?mco=NzY2Njgy

I'm pretty sure this has been available for quite some time. Don't know how long though (maybe just after the anouncement of it??).

So... With that picture from the Vodafone store in Vic on Friday, any news on the pre-ordering coming back yet? Its weird it was out on Friday (obviously prematurely, or the anouncements were delayed for some reason).

Cheers,
Chris :)

Does anyone know whether there is purchase limit per customer? (Optus?)

I remember when putting in my deposit that there was a drop-down box asking how many iPhones I wanted. I put down 1. Does that matter? I want to buy 2 pre-paid iPhones now, one for my girlfriend and obviously the one for me.

Sorry, also need to mention does anyone think that say 6 months down the line that people who have bought the iPhone 3G already (say on pre-paid or unlocked by some other means) that they would be able to get the standalone iPhone contracts without paying for another phone?

Because I know someone who has 6 months left on a contract with M8 (subsidiary of Optus) but does not want to cancel her contract because of the obvious costs. And she can't upgrade to an iPhone plan because she is not actually with Optus.

Anyone?

Why not? Optus aren't AT&T ;)

When she's out of contract she should be able to switch providers no probs. She could do it now even, but she'd get hit with early exit fees.

So she would be able to sign on to one of the new iPhone contracts from Optus just released a few days ago by itself, meaning without having to buy a new iPhone, correct?

I live in sydney and will be very disappointed if come friday I get to the optus or vodafone shop and they are sold out of iphone. I'm planning on purchasing the pre-paid 16gb version. What time do you think i should go to get my iphone. Would it be necessary to go hours before or just go at 9am when it opens? Whats everyone else planning to do?

just a thought, get the optus on 24months, after pay 12 get the 3rd gen iPhone and pay for the 3g (remainder for the hand set) only had it 12mnths but get it at the 24mnth plan price!!

think about it and my grammar might make sense:D

Why not just get it on a 12 month plan? Sure, you pay more for the phone per month but you're not locked into a contract for another 12 months on top of it.

tcmacintosh, we'll all be disappointed if that happens. Luckily for the pre-paid people I think most kids have been scared off from it cause they were expecting iPod prices.

I'm still debating lining up early or just taking my chances at the Vodafone store.

Optus Refunded Deposit......???

Hey guys anyone else put a deposit down with Optus when it was availible and found that it has already been refunded?
Weeeiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrdddddddddddddddd
