iPhone 3g Australia forum

Happy to announce that I now have a black 16gb iPhone that I'm using to type this. Waited for over 4 hours at the apple store but it's worth it. I love everything but the battery. Ended up getting 59 cap over 12 months, using home contents insurance rather than optus insurance.

Guy in front of me waited two hours then had to bail cause he had a work meeting. If you're reading this Glen, hope you end up with one soon.

My bro saw it in action today and went and ordered one from optus straight away, they say it'll be here in a week. Here's hoping!
 
forgive me if this is off-topic, but does anyone know of an application for the iPhone in australia that lets you see the location of other friends who have iPhones (and that app - i guess)

so somehow you can see where they are, closest i think is loopt but that only works in the U.S. am using twinkle but im not shore if you can see someones location without messaging and asking them..could be wrong... anyone know of anything that's available for us australians?

there might be an appilcation for that, only for jailbreak iPhones, however I don't think that apple will approve for that app in the app store! Since were on the topic of this iPhone app, how would you think that app will find other iPhones, people will leave Bluetooth off, so that's out of the question and wifi will drain battery if turned for prolong periods of time!

Ok back to topic, the optus guy asked if I wanted to use the optus insurance plan for $14 on top of my plan; however I said I will think about it. I am on a 24 month contract and I want some kind of insurence, especially for water damage!

What insurance should I get?

All this on my 16GB iPhone 3G
 
So everyone has been able to find one in store? I'm in Sydney, and thinking about upgrading my first gen iPhone so I can get with the mobile web. But don't want to do a city wide hunt or wait in lines to get one since my current one works fine.
 
Australialisation

After figuring out the bouncing app problem with my macbook not running pwnage i played around for a bit and got prompted for a carrier update on the computer and luckily for me it has installed carrier logo and fixed the voicemail button without needing localisation and also fixed area code problems. im guessing that this means that when telstra makes visual voicemail available that we will also be updated and therefore it will work on the gen 1 phones.. sound about right? email:chomby1991@gmail.com

that be bitchin, really thats cool, im gonna get me a bricked 4gb off ebay because i think the 3G is a POS - only good for 3Gness

I think it was $8 a month, all that I know is that the cheapest one can't cover the iPhone because it's over $500. What kind of cover does optus insurance provide? Does it cover water damage?

Oh noes! What happened to make you so jaded?

On the insurance side of things, I'm going to investigate adding it as a specified portable valuable to my contents insurance. AFAIK this is excess free, but I'll have to check 100% and let everyone know how I go.

The hardware has gone backwards, to much cost cutting, software i can deal with, hardware is really pissing me off.

touchscreen sucks
Accelerometer not as responsive
Screen on left side is above the bezel
Light leaking
dock connecter is tighter then jailbait
Now have a fear of cracks appearing in the white backing

Sorry to hear that mate, I know how excited you were. I've played around with a 2G, but this is the first iPhone I've owned and I can honestly say I love it more than life itself. Haven't had any of the problems you've described (yet) save for touchscreen issues with 3rd party apps.

Calibrated my battery today, had email set at 15 min intervals, bluetooth on and have been watching youtube and ipod videos all afternoon, battery seems to be lasting a whole lot better. Could still be incorrect, but time will tell.
 
I signed up for my iPhone last night!!! It should arrive on Friday. I'm getting a black 16gb. I got it with optus on a $59 cap. It'll be awesome. My best mate has a black 16gb that I was playing with today. It does feel much better in your hand.

but some people have been waiting since July 11th to get one.
and the orders still havent been filled.
 
Haha, that's aight. My mate ordered his iPhone from the same place I ordered mine last Monday and got it on Thursday. They seem to be really passionate about customer service which is good. It's a nice change since I've been with Telstra all my life, haha.

i dislike them also.

sigh.
my iPhone got sent to melbourne to verfiy it was 'DOA'

they keep giving me different dates, so i have no idea when it will be back :(
