iPhone 3g Australia forum

Got my black 8gb yesterday, pretty happy with it so far!

Not sure if this has been posted on already but -
A Virgin (plan) simcard, works on an Optus iPhone (plan) without any unlocking.

I know this cause I was a Virgin customer. Optus stuffed up the number port, no idea how. I'm now left with an Optus sim that won't activate.

Just for fun I tried my Virgin sim. Works 100% (well almost, i can't call up virgin voicemail - but havn't troubleshot that at all.)

Just thought this information might be useful to someone.

Has anyone else noticed an improvement in data coverage since the 'carrier update' last night? Yesterday I was constantly getting a message on my phone saying 'cellular data not available' but since I updated last night I haven't gotten that message once today. It seems that I can get data even when I'm not in a 3G area now which wasn't the case yesterday.

Just a question... is there really unlimited data for the the first month with Optus??? :confused:

on prepaid...
this is what i know...

@ sign up you get $400 free credit and 1GB of data....
(lasting for a month)

if you recharge before the 31st of August you get unlimited data until the 31st of August...

but you may want plans..
 
lol i dont even have mine working properly yet.

got in a huge shitfight with optus, as they stuffed up my number port.
rang them yesterday, and they can't do anything till tomorrow morning :(

at least my old virgin sim seems to operate in it well enough!

I was with Virgin pre-paid and they ported my number yesterday....
but the sim is still working in my old Sony Ericsson Z550i? I can still call, text and access voicemail.

Strange :confused:

That really sucks. It took them nearly 3 hours to port my number on Friday even though the guy said it should only take 15 minutes.
 
Well I'll be getting an iphone soon.

Still grappling with either holding off for a few months since I'm on contract (smart thing) or canceling and getting one in a week or two (what I really want :))

i'm actually not minding too much, as my month has JUST started with virgin. $250 worth of calls, and 300mb data, ill use as much as i can before i get ported :)

I got it the Optus World store in Tuggeranong... you know, at the back near Kmart...
 
i wont be getting an iPhone anytime soon. its too expensive. i dont work atm and im at uni full time. my Samsung Z140 + vodafine prepaid is doing me just fine atm :D. maybe in future when i have a career and it becomes even more whiz bang?

its called youth allowance lol.
im off woolworths and straight to that a soon as i finish school and start uni. :cool:
 
i ended up finding a store with a short queue in QV centre in Melbourne on Friday, and got 2 iPhone's from optus without preordering - the iPhone is simply amazing:D

Hah...youth allowance is a joke, it's impossible to live off. If I don't work I get $420 a fortnight. I pay $300 a fortnight for rent...there's no way I'd survive off $60 a week. And keep in mind that if you want to get it by being declared independent you can't actually claim it for 18 months after completing high school.

it's only been 3 days but it feels like a week for me
since it's only arriving next Friday (hopefully)

internet is very usefull for passing time, especially in the holidays! :D
 
Seesh, ten whole minutes without any posts and you call the thread dead? :p

But yes I agree with you that the internet is quite possibly the best time waster ever created. Just before when I was at Coles there was a really long line but luckily I had my iPhone with me so I just caught up on a bit of MacRumors. (I'm only really saying this to keep the thread slightly relevant)
