Hey man, you're the one calling people retarded just because YOU don't understand.

$200 & $300 US are the subsidised prices (obviously).
Sentences start with a capital letter and end with a full stop, unless your post is meant to be some sort of haiku? :D

now now lets all get along.

I would rather pay for it outright, use it on Three on My first on three account (we pay literally nothing for it and our phone bills may be 2$ a month) and have no data plan and just use wifi.

I hope this is possible but I really doubt it somehow.

Everyone keeps forgetting that the iPhone is a cash cow.

If you aren't willing to shell out for a monthly plan or sign a 2 year contract then you probably shouldn't have an iPhone. Instead of trying to devise cheaper ways to obtain one.

If all else fails you can just get a Touch and glue a cheapo phone on the back.

I'm hoping that Vodafone will offer something similar to what O2 did in the UK and allow existing customers to break contract to resign and get the iPhone. I'm 18 months into a 24 month contract and will be very upset if I have to pay extra on top of the iPhone price just so I can recontract.

I can hope :)

die OPTUS

sidetrack.
they've closed the pre-booking for the iPhone due to '...unprecedented requests...' (according to the email i got from them), so pretty much yeah.

ah well.
did anyone get in time to pre-order at all?

I didn't preorder because the bastards hadn't released plans and pricing info. I wish I had, because you could always cancel. I hope they aren't sold out. :(

No, I didn't want to commit to optus.

BUT this means that it will be a lottery to get an iphone on July 11th and probaly most of July.

This will sell out big time.

I am in school. It's not like im so stupid i have to drop out when i'm 14 :S and i just said that in my post about steve saying that because he didn't mention it was a subsidised price, i thought it was all round, but i've been reading around and i found out i'm wrong, so sorry, jeez. Don't get all worked up

You still need school if you have grammar and spelling like that. Names like Steve need to have a capital letter at the very first letter. At the end of a sentence you need to have a full stop.

Wrong: Don't get all worked up

Correct: Don't get all worked up.

Wrong: Im

Correct: I'm

Stay in school; you need it.

yeah.
in the email i got back, it didnt gurantee you a phone, it just said you would be "...... able to get the iPhone 2hrs earlier," so if a lot of people did that, dont be expecting to get the iPhone even if you did pre-order.

Australia Pricing

Morning,

So im in the UK, waiting on O2 to come up with the pay as you go (pre pay) pricing, but i have a funny feeling that we're going to get bent over here and as im in contract but cant upgrade till october im hoping the PAYG route is viable.....

Question is this, im over in Sydney in September, should i hold out till then and get one in OZ? Have you guys had any info about your pricing yet as i hear that yours will be an unlocked iphone due to your regulations.

Any info will be welcome
:)

we pretty much no nothing at this stage!

neither carrier, optus/vodafone, have released any prices/plans or other details.

subscribe to this thread though, cause it's sure to be updated 5 min after we know!

You're in the UK. For $62 a month you get a nice amount of calls and unlimited data. You've got a better price on an Apple product than America. It's a better plan than we could ever hope for, be happy. :)

Cheers.

I still cant believe the UK actually seems to be ahead of the game on this one! Its never like this usually. We've got our price plans and iphone cost released last week, just not the PAYG pricing...which means they are still working our how much they can take the p**s!

Is it true it will be unlocked? Or is it tied to vodaphone? I am quite jealous of the fact you guys have the fastest data on mobile though!

i'm not sure if it's true that it will be unlocked or not, but two carriers will have it (optus/vodafone.) i imagine that it will be locked to whoever you buy it from?
i don't know much about the suggestion that by law it has to be sold unlocked or whatever you have heard (but i have been living in asia for 5 years, so what would i know!)

unrelated - optus just upgraded the area where i live/work to 3.5g today! stoked!

Yeah, on the face of it it looks good, but the basic contract rate, £30 pm is not even worth while, 75 minute/125 text !! The £35 is better.

My problem is the timing. Im in an 18 month contract which means i cant upgrade till October 2008. Then i'd need to obviously sign up for another 18 month contract and at the moment im looking to move over to Oz for a year or so in 6 months time so i dont want to sign up for another one. The best route for me would be a PAYG iphone from O2 (or Oz), put my sim card from the contract phone i have at the moment and let it run till the end of contract (feb 2009 i think).

The only flaw in my cunning plan is that i wont be able to swap the sim.....somehow i think the sim card will be tied to the iphone, even on PAYG.

Darn it!

I have a crazy theory: Apple tried to go exclusive with Telstra (all pro-consumer and all), Telstra told them to go screw themselves, and now Apple are refusing to allow the iPhone with Telstra out of spite. Hence the all Next-G "Jack receives a video call..." commercials.

Or maybe not.

Quite likely. Too fairly stubborn companies. One theory is that apple require a certain amount of data at a certain price MINIMUM and telstra didn't agree (probably wanted $1000 per MB or something). The other possibility is that Telstra wanted to preload the 3G iPhone with custom firmware crap.

captain kaos, I see where you are coming from now. The iPhone will most likely be jailbroken so you can use any carrier you like though. :)

There have been quite a lot of posts deleted from this thread for bickering between some members.

Lovely!

Only thing is it means i have to wait till the end of september to get one in Sydney. Then again at least the queues will be short by then. Ha!:D

Or i get my lovely girlfriend to buy one and post it over here. Bargain!:D

Thank God this is Apple. Any other company would have Vodafone icons and logos all over the damn phone.

And I'm really hoping we get some decent data rates, but just think about it: all the mobile companies offer 3G Internet access to laptops at a hilarious premium. No way the mobile data rate will be less than the $40 / 5GB Voda's (for example) is pushing right now.
