Just Got it as well and the way it reads to me is we wont know there plans prices until just before the launch  Please correct me if im reading this wrong

We'll be back in touch in the coming weeks to give you more information on Optus' great coverage, great content, great service - and most importantly, the Optus iPhone plans

yeah, "back in the coming weeks"

its only like 2 weeks until its released people
OMFG!

just to rant about it a little bit more...
why would they send people an email like that, i dont care how great they are all i want is prices.

EDIT: "Optus' great coverage..... etc.,"

does that mean with have to endure emails about phones/ plans unrelated to Optus and ones that tells us how great it is... as well as the

"only a couple more days till release... by the way we dont have prices as of yet... think of it as a surprise"

As said in a previous post it is all a big game of corporate chicken if it was just Vodafone and Optus I would bet we would already know the plans/prices by now but having the rumors of Telstra getting the iphone they would get worried that if they bring out there plans and Telstra comes out with there plans and undercuts them there goes Vodafones and Optus's bottom line for one of the biggest selling handset in Australia.

But another thought the iphone may redefine the way we by data and come in line with the rest of the western world and get unlimited data and its just a matter of which carrier has the balls to do it, just my 2 cents but i wish they would pull there fingers out and give us a price.

Apple has released details of the new iPhone, and it's exciting! With fast 3G wireless technology, maps with GPS and the new App store, you have even more features at your fingertips.

Check out the full features and tech specs today.
Dear whoever at Optus just discovered that,
Die.
Yours Truly,
Me.

This is what I found funny in the two emails i have recived from Optus

You have been added to our system and we will send you updates as they come through from Apple

Its like Optus is putting blame and the delay on the pricing back on Apple

you know what makes me laugh though is the fact that other companies overseas have put their prices out and we havent gotten anything, so really the blame cant be put on apple

Does anyone if there were delays initially for the US 1st gen launch? I'm considering just waiting a month or after launch for the dust to settle before getting one.

As far as I know that the 8 gigs got spread very thin on launch day but apple had a site you could goto to tell you what each store had, But I would say the reason for the July 11 launch for the 3g is to get the supply chain right so there are no shortages :apple:

hopefully there will be no shortages around this time.
im hoping to get in there either on the day or the day after and just buy it...

what do you think the chances of me being able to do this will be?

EDIT: most likely ill just grab one off eBay.... probably be faster and more cost efficient ..

I emailed vodafone & optus yesterday to see if they knew if small cities would have the iphone on release date, this is voodafone's reply:

"Thank you for your enquiry.

There is no information available at this stage other than the release date of the 12/07/2008. You can register your interest on the Vodafone website and then you will be contacted when further information is available.

Thank you."

errr.
*stab*

thats wierd.
maybe it confirms that the iPhone will be sold in Australia 11th of July American-time, not Australian.

which goes against what they have said/ say on the Optus website;

The iPhone you've been waiting for. Coming July 11.

unless of course it is just clever language, as it does not specify time-zone the "11th of July" will be in...

hmmm..

The 12th that must be a typo

From Vodafone's web site

Got the email from Optus, here's the gist:

Dear Customer,

Stuff you already know but this time in email form.

Love Optus.

C'Mon Optus don't send me these sorts of emails - totally useless. Send me an email with information, not a promise of information at a later date.

well, i just emailed Vodafone about it (it = the iPhone in general). lol

even though i doubt i will get a proper answer, it cant help trying, can it?

Actually, I have a mate who works for Vodafone who I contacted the day of WWDC - he said the 12th as well. I just assumed it was a guess but maybe it's correcting for time zones?

wonder if that's what it is though.
do you know anything else from your friend about the iPhone at all?

is anyone else here slightly worried about the prjected prices for upfront/ pre-paid...

because, browsing other sites, some have been saying a price of $750 + for a 16GB iPhone 3G...

i wont have that kind of cash just lying around
:(

I'd say it'll be about that price for an 8GB phone outright, maybe less if you buy it locked to the network but on a pre pay SIM.

16GB would probably be closer to $1k like the HTC touch Diamond judging by the outright prices in Italy (~€570 = ~A$900)
