Not sure what's wrong with your ISP then, because it works (well, worked) just fine for me.

Warbrain- yes I got my confirmation e-mail, and yes- delivery is apparently guaranteed "as early as" the 24th. See attachment.

Not showing up either, but I think it's due to my FAN discount... well this is kind of lame...

i was able to order a 16gb on att on my iphone around 630 i guess now that the apple store is down everyone is flooding att

i am still confused over upgrade.

i bought iphone 3GS July 2009. I did the whole check att website and it says I am eligyable for discounted upgrade....that is not the lowest price right? but the second-lowest price?

Apple's online store is still down but I just pre-ordered on AT&T's site with no issues. Have been trying off and on since 5:50 AM EST to order from Apple to no avail.

I can see the AT&T ad for iPhone 4, and the box that says "new customer" and "upgrade." I click "upgrade," log in, check availability, and get a list of old iPhones that I can "upgrade" to, but no iPhone 4 listed. Even trying the direct link someone provided just starts the same process.

So either AT&T is saying that I'm not eligible to upgrade (unlikely, I've had the 3G since 2008, and was eligible for a 3GS upgrade in February), or the AT&T site is broken.

I seriously doubt this is an ISP problem.

Imagine that their peak load on a release (or first pre-order) day is, say, 20 times that of their peak load on any other day. It's probably at least that.

Do you really think that they are going to sink all the resources into handling a short-term 20-fold increase, vs. what they need to do to handle normal peak loads? Buy 20 times as many servers?

Honestly, I am not sure what I would do in their place with the kind of order surge they must be seeing. Maybe I'd try to manage it by only allowing a certain number of orders to start at a time, but that's more design work to go into a problem that only happens a couple of days a year. More, they might even think that there's something to being able to say, "we got so much interest that our SAP servers couldn't handle the load!"

Servers can only take so much. And it seem to be more an issue with Apple pulling info from the ATT servers.
Checking eligibility isn't the problem going to cart is the problem.
And if they did what you say, used the info from the previous times, understood the traffic they would expect and it was still not enough?

Do you really think they did not plan for this?
It appears that even the best laid plans can still fail.
I understand, it just sucks. :(

Wow, the Apple store down! For AT&T it appears to be based on how you get in. The 'wireless' URL shows it is in maintenance. However the main AT&T site I could log into my account and select a 32GB iPhone 4 for upgrade.

have no choice but to wait for apple to update the site...

ATT won't the mofos ...

UK out of commission...

Apple store - Down for the last hour

O2 - Still asking to register your interest - limited tariff info
Vodaphone - Still asking to register your interest - no tariff info yet
Orange - Still asking to register your interest - no tariff info yet
Three - Still asking to register your interest - no tariff info yet
T-Mobile - Still asking to register your interest - no tariff info yet

Carphone Warehouse - Still asking to register your interest - no tariff info from networks
Tesco - seem to be unaware there is a new iPhone - still have 3GS on page
Phones4U - Still asking to register your interest - no tariff info from networks

FAIL!!!!!

Same problem with the AT&T Premier Site for me - no iPhone 4 listed once I log in to my accout, just a bunch of 3G and 3GS models.

Guess I'm waitin' on the Apple site to come back up.

You can buy in server capacity for things like this, it should be running fine. My guess is that it's a problem on the payments side.

any one get an email from att yet i just checked my order status befor it said backordered now it just qty ordered is 1 but still no email

Anyone ordered from ATT who has upgrade charged of $18? I thought it should be waived

Agreed. I'm in the same boat. On my Nexus One right now, which I've been using since I sold my 3GS, and nothing is showing for me.
