After several attempts and refreshes I get through, but that's the least of my problems.

I am already an AT&T (Premier) customer and when I put in my info, it says my SSN "does not exist". It doesn't say that it is incorrect, it says it doesn't exist. Called AT&T, they verified that all the information is correct and is more or less blaming Apple's system for the error.

So I tried ordering one through the AT&T website. I remember a few months ago I had trouble trying to set up an online account, so I was hesitant to try again. Because it is a Premier account, I have to go through a separate Premier registration. I put in all my info, and it either gives me error messages or times out (same thing it did last time). I'm currently on hold with AT&T and the representative has said "Wow, this is very strange. I don't know what is going on" at least three times and cannot figure out what the problem is. Basically the Premier site is saying it's a regular account and the regular site is saying it's a Premier account and neither will let me progress.

I did some skimming in this thread and it looks like it can only be pre-ordered for delivery at the account's home address. Is this true? I am travelling on the 24th and was planning on having it delivered to another address. And I'm guessing that if you pre-order in a retail store it has to be picked up in the same store, right?

grrr, damnit. I got as far as add to cart and my session timed out, now i can only get as far as check eligibility before it craps out.

wtf apple? IPAD preorders weren't like this at all

Finally got to checkout and had like five phones in my cart from previous attempts. Deleted them and place my order for a 32GB. Got my confirmation and am good to go. :D

Finally my order went through, Apple.com is working. I elected for the home delivery, to bad I can’t go to sleep now. I am running on three hours of sleep today and have to work till 4 this afternoon.

Just check your cart on Apple.com, it should be sitting in there and you can complete the order.

Yes it was, and some others. I removed the others and checked out!! Have order number!! WOOHOO!! About time!!

Apple, AT&T kick off iPhone 4 pre-orders
But Apple store goes under around 6 a.m. ET

June 15, 2010 (Computerworld)

As promised, Apple early today began taking pre-orders for its new iPhone 4, although only the black model was immediately available.

Around 6 a.m. ET, however, the iPhone 4 page on Apple's U.S. online store was returning an "Oops! An error occurred" message. Minutes later, the entire store went down. It was back up around 8 a.m. ET and a Computerworld,/i> editor successfully ordered one of the iPhones (in black). But by 8:15 a.m. ET, the store was again down, displaying a "We'll be back soon" message.

The iPhone 4, which Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled earlier this month at his company's annual developers conference, first hit the online stores of Apple and U.S. carrier partner AT&T shortly after midnight ET.

Only the black model can be pre-ordered from Apple or AT&T. According to Apple, the white iPhone 4 is "currently unavailable for pre-order or in-store pickup." Apple gave no reason for the delay or when customers could pre-order the white smartphone.

The 16GB iPhone 4 costs $199 with a two-year AT&T contract; the 32GB model runs $299.

Also early today, Apple and AT&T started taking pre-orders for the new $99 8GB iPhone 3GS.

Both the iPhone 4 and the 8GB iPhone 3GS will be available for pickup at Apple's retail stores on June 24, the day that pre-orders will also reach customers who asked for at-home delivery. AT&T has set June 25 as its in-store pick-up date.

On its Web site, AT&T said that orders would be processed on a "first-come, first-served basis," and that orders submitted by 2 p.m. ET June 22 would arrive two days later.

"The actual shipment date and receipt of your order is not guaranteed and may be subject to delays," AT&T cautioned as it ticked off several, including availability, credit issues and number porting.

iPhone customers new to AT&T must select one of two capped-data plans that the carrier debuted earlier this month as replacements for the previous unlimited plan. However, existing AT&T iPhone customers can keep the higher-priced unlimited data plan indefinitely, even if upgrading their phone.

The online stores for the other retailers selling the iPhone 4 -- Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Radio Shack -- did not list the new model as available for pre-order as of 6 a.m. ET. Both Best Buy and Radio Shack said Monday that they would take iPhone pre-orders today. Early today, Radio Shack announced via Twitter that it would take pre-orders starting at noon CT.

Apple's online store was down in France, Germany and the U.K. as of 6 a.m., effectively barring customers in those countries from ordering. Apple's Japanese online store was up and running, but the iPhone 4 was not yet available for pre-order.

great, now i can get passed the first page. Nice botched pre-order, Apple.

It is not difficult to predict demand/traffic, and thus prepare for it. This is such bull.

Perhaps they had to take some servers offline to prevent selling out of launch inventory in 5 minutes like what happened with the iPad?

I've been trying since 5 AM est.
at 8:30 am I got to finally see my cart, where I had two iPhones there. So I had to delete one. When I was deleting it, it kicked me out again.

Kept on trying. At 9:15, finally got to see my cart again. Successfully deleted second phone and finally was able to checkout (through Apple).

Just keep trying guys, it will eventually go through.
Now, trying to help my brother order his. :)

Anyone else having problems with the iPhone 4 not actually showing up in your available upgrade options? Every time I select "pre-order now" and check what phones I can buy I only get a full list of 3Gs and 3GS phones.

pre-ordered my black 32gb on ATT, fairly easy took 5 minutes..also got to keep my unlimited plan and now seems like there plans are cheaper now as well
