Interesting. I had been trying since 4AM, couldn't get beyond the "add to cart" screen on apple's site. At work now and still trying, now I couldn't get past the AT&T check. Finally, just for giggles, I checked my cart and much to my surprise, it was there...must have been stored there from my earlier attempts. At that point, I checked out no problem.

THANK YOU:D

Same for me, avoided so much aggravation.

The worst part is, I wanted the phone shipped to where I work, and I was at the checkout of the AT&T site, where it said they would only ship to the billing address. I went through all of this nonsense with the Apple website to find out that they too will only ship to the billing address. So I could have been doing something else the last 2 hours if I just got it from the AT&T site at 8. Oh well...:(

I finally got in via the Apple store. It took a long time, next think I know I was able to pick the store for my delivery. I did so, and received an email saying that I was preautorized, and the amount that I would be charged is correct, $299 for a 32gb black.

However, did anyone else notice the following at the bottom of their confirmation email:

Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ridiculous...

I'm still getting the same BS on both web-sites... you know, they had months to prepare for this... they KNEW there would be a ton of pre-orders... I just don't get how both companies could be this unprepared and idiotic...

this is bull

time for apple to change their image banner on the order page...

Man alive, this sucks. I can't imagine how many people are trying to order this thing right now. But Apple & AT&T can't claim that they were caught off guard.

ATT site all the way. I tried apple's earlier but it was getting hammered way to badly, immediately hopped on att and ordered all 4 phones and just waiting til next thursday.

prepared or not, theres no real way to be ready for a million people logging into your website at the same time.

Earlier I got to the screen where I could choose which store to pick up from. Now I can't get past the availability check. Very frustrating.

I agree, it seems to be on AT&T's end. Only once have I made it past the verifying part from Apple's site. Each time I go to AT&T's site and am logged in, I always error out. Keep hacking away at it.

Well, I have 2 phones waiting for me at the apple store, but the wrong pricing is listed, I hope that can be fixed at the store.

You know, at least Apple's site has a clear path to success, even though they won't let most get down that damn path! AT&T's site (when not in "Maintenance" mode) is just plain dysfunctional for me. I can get to the first page (via att.com, then clicking on wireless) that offers the upgrade. But then when I select existing account/upgrade, it takes me to a damn store page that shows the 3GS, at best! Then in the list of phones, it doesn't show any iphones at all! Grrr....

For those who didnt get an email and selected Pick-up:

use the Apple Store App, and select your store, and Reservations. And it showed up there! I tried this on apple.com for searching by reservation, and it wasnt there.

I keep having errors after Apple checking my ATT account. So I log into ATT clicked on the upgrade, I can't find iPhone 4 from the upgrade page (after logging in with my ATT account).

I think there is some problem in ATT's server.

Yippeeee....finally after early, early morning tries....order has been processed. Only thing that kind of stinks; they would not allow me to have it shipped to my work address, only can be shipped to the AT&T billing address. Looks like I will have to spend the morning at home.

great, now i'm going to have to take the day off. :p

ATT Premiere Customer....

Pre-ordered mine through ATT. The website was awfully slow, but things seemed to work out fine eventually (got an email confirmation as well). BTW, I realized that one cannot get 24% service discount with the 200MB data plan..so I opted for the 2GB one FWIW. Good luck all!

This is ridiculous. This is what's called being unprepared. And I'd be willing to bet its AT&T right now that's totally bogged down, given that the Apple store is flying up until checkin eligibility and then error.

I'm on the phone with apple right now and they are saying its a problem with AT&T's network and they are having to reboot all of their systems.

I managed to reserve when I was pre-ordering!!! But notice the line in the email....'Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.'

Watch, the database ends up getting corrupted and they lose all our order data :D
