I'm still getting the same BS on both web-sites... you know, they had months to prepare for this... they KNEW there would be a ton of pre-orders... I just don't get how both companies could be this unprepared and idiotic...

Do you really think they didn't add servers and bandwidth just for today? I bet they are adding more servers as we speak. But it takes time to image them and add them to the custer. Somone with a spreadsheet under estimated how many orders there would be and now engineering has to rush around to fix it...

I got all the way to the last screen... and They had MY OLD ADDRESS!!! I called ATT and had it changed but now I have to start all over!!!

Right, but I thought if your contract expired in 2011, then you didn't get the 299 price, it would be 399??

No, it really depends on your primary line's bill. Like my contract expires on June 19 2011. But I am upgrade eligible June 20th (regardless of ATT moving up everyone's eligibility by 6 months). So they didn't move up my eligibility and I still would have been able to order the iPhone on June 24th.

I get a full upgrade every 12 months cause I pay at least $99 (voice/data but it excludes texting) So my contract expires in the middle of 2011 and I was eligible to upgrade.

Well, I have 2 phones waiting for me at the apple store, but the wrong pricing is listed, I hope that can be fixed at the store.

I am in the same boat. I am SURE they will be about to sort out the upgrade pricing at the store during pick-up. Its not like the pre-ordered phone is tied/linked to your att account, etc. when they go to the back of the store and get you your phone.

this sucks

last few hours I have just gotten this...

Your request couldn’t be processed.

We’re sorry, but there was an error processing your request. Please try again later.

Ah ha, okay, I pay over 99 on my bill so that must be why they allowed me to upgrade with the full discount. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to find another 100 charge later on.

Omg!!!

I've been waiting for over an hour for the apple store to "process my request!"
After login in and selecting pre-order, AT&T keeps giving me the 3's to order! Aaaggghhhh!!! What am I doing wrong?

Without reading through all 900+ posts here, I have to assume that it's AT&T that's to blame here. If everybody keeps failing at the eligibility check, then that's on AT&T.

question...
I have four lines on my account...I have the only iPhone. I plan to upgrade my wife to get the new iPhone and swap, but I thought I read somewhere that the new phone uses a special, smaller sim. I take it I will have to get to an ATT store to swap? Will they let me?

With all these reports that you can only ship to your billing address, I'm giving up on this process. There's no point in my shipping to my billing address (home) as I won't be there to sign for it. That's a ridiculous restriction - I'm betting that probably 25% of people won't be able to sign for them - so FedEx is going to waste a lot of time and fuel driving these things around for nothing.

It's going to be a lot easier for me to get to an AT&T store on the 24th than it is to go all the way out to FedEx after work. Now I just have to hope that I'll get there early enough for them to have a 32 GB phone in stock.

Sadly it seems like the problem may only get worse as more people wake up and try getting the phone...

I managed to reserve when I was pre-ordering!!!

I also was able to reserve and just got the same email from them. After an hour and a half of trying to do shipping to my home I decided, per someone's suggestion earlier in this thread, just doing store pickup since it seemed like there would be fewer steps for the servers to go through.

The beginning of the email makes it sound very certain that it will be there

But the fine print, as you point out, is a bit worrying.

'Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.'

It had better be there until the close of business on the 24th, since it says

"Please note that your reservation will be held until close of business on June 24."

One thing that is different with mine is that my confirmation doesn't include plan info. Yours said.

Plan includes:
Unlimited $30.00
200 messages $5.00

For me, it says "Plan includes" but it's blank for some reason. Hope that won't be a problem...

It's very frustrating that they didn't have servers ready for the kind of traffic they'd be getting. Hopefully everyone who's either already had their order processed or has been trying since the wee hours of the morning to have their order go through will get theirs on the 24th (my 1-1/2 hours seems to pale in comparison to some people), otherwise there will be some very unhappy customers...

I'm having a horrible time. I've gotten to the ATT verification only a few times and it always fails. Next, I'll finally get past that and it will fail on my payment screen I bet...

Wait what?! Is this true? Pre order doesn't guarantee you'll get one if you do in store pickup? It says your reservation will be held for you until the end of june 24 ... but then at the bottom it says pre-auth doesn't guarantee iphone availability... anyone have any info on this?
