no excuses. this is apple's baby. apple's fault.

lease some severs for days like this and bite the bullet. such is the cost of doing business.

Bad Service

:mad:After two hours, still cant get past the AT&T authorization screen. Apple phone lines are not accepting calls due to high volume. Once again, we suffer with AT&T.

With all these reports that you can only ship to your billing address, I'm giving up on this process. There's no point in my shipping to my billing address (home) as I won't be there to sign for it. That's a ridiculous restriction - I'm betting that probably 25% of people won't be able to sign for them - so FedEx is going to waste a lot of time and fuel driving these things around for nothing.

It's going to be a lot easier for me to get to an AT&T store on the 24th than it is to go all the way out to FedEx after work. Now I just have to hope that I'll get there early enough for them to have a 32 GB phone in stock.

can anyone confirm this?

Without reading through all 900+ posts here, I have to assume that it's AT&T that's to blame here. If everybody keeps failing at the eligibility check, then that's on AT&T.

Nope. I spent about an hour failing before I even got to the eligibility check. It's on both ends. AT&T is not always to blame for iPhone's problems.

Well at least it's running my eligibility check now. Before, I'd click the button and get an error message back. We'll see how long this thing runs.

Edit: DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT

its only voice... not data

I can confirm it's voice and data (but excludes texting plans). I have been with Cingular/ATT for almost 7 years and know the system in and out.

I have the old $69.99 1100 min plan. So add in my $30 iphone data plan=$99. And I also have a 24% FAN discount (on both voice and data) so this $99 is counted before FAN discounts.

Since my primary line bill is really only $76 after my 24% discount but I have always been eligible for a 12 month upgrade on this primary line for the past 5 1/2 years. It's like clockwork.

apple just told me, duh? their servers are overwhelmed.
I have not been able to do anything other than reserve one rather than having one shipped.

he said they would be back up at 11 am est.

on the other hand I was able to get completely through the ATT process and declined after seeing that they do not guarantee delivery on the 24th so I said the hell with this and I will wait for the apple server to get its sh*t together.

Not sure on that one. I was failing at the screen where you chose if you are a new or existing customer (long before the data input for phone number and other information).

Apple seems to have worked out their store issues. Both the regular site and the iPhone app are working now. You can buy anything EXCEPT an iPhone.

Looks like it's all AT&T's fault now. I tried to access my account through their site and I got a "Web site down for maintenence" message.

It would help if everyone would turn OFF your WiFi....Thanks :D

I burst out laughing when I read that. Thanks, it made having to try over and over again to order more bearable. I had to explain to my wife why I was laughing since at that time I still couldn't order. I don't think she completely saw the humor even after I explained...I think it's one of those "you had to be there" things.

if i were to go in the store and reserve this, would it be the same exact process as doing it on my computer as theres? i just want to pick it up in store anyways. so is it a different process if done in stores?

DAMNIT!! I finally got past the authorization screen and clicked Add To Cart and it gave me that damn error message again! And no, I checked, and it isn't in my cart:(

Why couldn't AT&T send over a database of all the "upgradeable customers" before the launch so Apple could handle everything.

Exactly. Or at least open up a well indexed table specifically to Apple with every number and their upgrade eligibility. If they are calculating upgrade eligibility on the fly, then this is very very poor planning on their part.

I finally made it in on AT&T's site. They checked my upgrade eligibility all good there, was getting ready - see the pre-order iPhone 4 link - click it ANNDDDDD

they send me to a page with nothing but 3Gs and 3G iphones. Great - thanks AT&T!

Oh, and now they just logged me out for no reason.

I've reserved black 32GB iPhone 4 at the Apple Store at Westfield, London. I can pick it up any time on June 24th, am under no obligation to buy, and can upgrade through O2 Pay Monthly from the Apple Store. :)

Turned out good for me, but my workmate was out of luck - the 32GBs are now out of stock.

Still got no idea how much it's going to cost though when subsidised through O2....

This lack of UK information on pricing is an outrage. None of the networks want to go first for fear of being undercut. All of which means the customer is losing out. You Americans should be glad you've only got AT&T...

I'm a devloper. I buy an iphone so i can test my code. Now you can go say, as your hero Steve Jobs say, go somewhere else, but it is not that simple. Apple has 90+ % of the mobile app market and if i want to make money i have to play in their world. Which of course the way they treat us is anti compedative but I don't expect you to understand that... So I don't have a choice...

This is wrong... Apple is out of control and the DOJ needs to step in. They did it to Microsoft and Microsoft did not pull 1% of the crap Apple polls.. But then Obama would never go after another beading heart liberal like Jobs... They are in bed together on their way to Cuba...

Sick, really sick..

Woh now. Don't bring politics into this forum. Uncalled for and out of line.

By the way, do you think you are the only developer here?

Dammit! What could the problem possibly be? All I want to do is order my iPhone with the 1000+ people on MacRumors, with probably a million other people, through the same site as everyone else at the exact same time. Life is so unfair.:D

OHHH SOO CLOSE.... Got all the way to "Add to Cart" and decide where to buy. Then session expires.... :(

anybody help?

and what if you have no credit and want to sign up with at&t?

I agree, it seems to be on AT&T's end. Only once have I made it past the verifying part from Apple's site. Each time I go to AT&T's site and am logged in, I always error out. Keep hacking away at it.
This is why it's broken. :D
So many people submitting request after request.

Not that it matters. Even if everyone on this entire forum started behaving and trying once only every thirty minutes, it would still be broken—at least until Apple manages to handle the extra bandwidth, or until people start giving up/getting orders processed.

not so much on the pre-order servers

Getting this now from AT&T:
