After trying to order for HOURS online via Apple & AT&T I get this crap!

NO EXCUSES!

Even if AT&T sucks, you can say that all you like. Apple dropped the ball. Plenty of time to prepare for this, didn't do it. Bad business here.

BAD APPLE!

Tip for ordering

When ordering through the Apple site and the AT&T verification errors because it times out, simply hit the back button on your browser. The same form with all your info will be resubmitted.

You still have to wait and play roullette on whether AT&T will process it again, but at least it saves you the step of having to re-enter your info. For me I finally got it to go through after about 13-15 retries.

Dammit! What could the problem possibly be? All I want to do is order my iPhone with the 1000+ people on MacRumors, with probably a million other people, through the same site as everyone else at the exact same time. Life is so unfair.:D

Ummm, yes - yes it is! :D

Apple seems to have worked out their store issues. Both the regular site and the iPhone app are working now. You can buy anything EXCEPT an iPhone.

Looks like it's all AT&T's fault now. I tried to access my account through their site and I got a "Web site down for maintenence" message.

Same here. And I was on the checkout page

Major fail

Guys this is a major fail. Why would we expect the phone to operate any different than this preorder process is working? AT&T has problems, Apple has problems.. Lets leave them to their problems and look for a better solution.

Ive been trying since 7:30am EST, fails every time. At this point Im ready to sell my apple stock, and move on as I truly see this as a reflection on the quality of service I can come to expect from these two companies moving forward. Preorders are not cutting edge, they did fine for ipads, so again this is a major fail. Apple officially did not care enough to make sure this process went smooth.

I'm a devloper. I buy an iphone so i can test my code. Now you can go say, as your hero Steve Jobs say, go somewhere else, but it is not that simple. Apple has 90+ % of the mobile app market and if i want to make money i have to play in their world. Which of course the way they treat us is anti compedative but I don't expect you to understand that... So I don't have a choice...

This is wrong... Apple is out of control and the DOJ needs to step in. They did it to Microsoft and Microsoft did not pull 1% of the crap Apple polls.. But then Obama would never go after another beading heart liberal like Jobs... They are in bed together on their way to Cuba...

Sick, really sick..
Wah! Wah! Apple made something profitable that has never been profitable before, and I'm capitalizing on it, but it makes me sad/angry that other companies haven't been successful too! Wah! Wah! Apple gives me money but they're such jerks! Wah! Wah!

And WTH? Politics?

Apple's new product appears to be yet another runaway success in every regard, so your solution is to sell your Apple stock? Cool. Go for it!

I love reading these forums on Apple product releases!

Has anyone had any trouble where they get past the upgrade status page on the Apple Store and you are only allowed to get it shipped to your billing address and not be able to pick it up at an Apple Store? I'm stuck every other week in Mason City, IA with my place here as the billing address for my phone, but I originally started off in Des Moines, IA. And of course, I'm scheduled to be in Des Moines, the week the phone comes out. However, it won't let me reserve the phone for pick up at the West Des Moines Apple Store. As a test, I chose to add a new line and it let me get to the point that I could choose to reserve it for pick up, but if I choose replace my current phone, it will only allow me to choose shipping.

I'm guessing they have had several million people trying to get a phone ordered today. Someone with a spreadsheet way under estimated how many orders there would be.

I don't know if anyone else noticed but as a Premier member there was an option for a $45 unlimited data plan - even though as a current user I have the $30 plan grandfathered in - at least unlimited is still available and will most likely be should they choose to discontinue the $30 option (at least for Premier members).

I just can't manage to get to the add to cart page. I've verified eligability maybe a dozen times. Got the correct price noted, then click continue anddd... Errors out. Every time.

Frustrating.

The requirement that all iPhones be shipped to the customer's AT&T billing address with signature required is a genius move that is going to cause huge headaches for FedEx as hundreds of thousands of packages will go back undelivered, or it could have a minor impact on the economy as hundreds of thousands of people take the day off from work to sit around waiting for FedEx to show up. Go AT&T!

Same here, I got to checkout once, fully eligible for upgrade, and it said 699 for teh price so I have to start over and I can't get any further than checking my AT&T account, fun morning.

This has now reached epic levels of stupid. I was able to get through a few times to the option to reserve at the store, which is not what I want to do. I don't want to go anywhere near an Apple store around launch day. I just want to pre-order for delivery.

I haven't been able to get past AT&T verification for the last hour and a half.

At&t

AT&T making Apple look bad YET AGAIN! How much can you take Steve? Enough already! If there's a damn contract, break it!

If all the raging douchebags can get off the net for just 4 minutes I can log in, order, log out and they can go back to jerking off to the pictures and then waffling over the 16 or 32 and then taking 30 min to finally decide

For me that 45 dollar plan came with tethering.

If you had gotten pretty far in the order process before...........

Try this...

go to the apple store with a fresh session .. add something " mundane" to your cart ( a new macbook pro or the bumpers case.. anything really) and then pow!! in your cart is sitting a nice iphone that you have spent the last 5 hours trying to order :-D!!!!!!!!!
       :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I then fully completed my order still waiting on the confirm e-mail . but I have an order number in hand already !!!

#1: You can't blame Apple

Face it, this is an AT&T issue at this point in the process. You'd think they would hire Apple to manage their server farm. Chances are, it's running Windows.

#2: Preparing for an "onslaught" is difficult (for anyone)

It's hard to "prepare" for an event such as what is happening right now. Even if you've done it a 100 times, you don't know WHAT you will be faced with. Even the grandest of server and network setup schemes are prone to fail. I've seen it time and time again myself. Just when you think all the bugs have been worked out, it fails.

#3: NO ONE is PERFECT

Yep, that includes you, me, Apple, ATT, Tmobile, Verizon, Sprint, Microsoft (especially), Google, etc etc etc.

NO ONE IS PERFECT. While this is frustrating... for every one of us... we have all had our failures. This is their (those who are dealing with all this mess) failure, so accept it and try again later.
