This has now reached epic levels of stupid. I was able to get through a few times to the option to reserve at the store, which is not what I want to do. I don't want to go anywhere near an Apple store around launch day. I just want to pre-order for delivery.

I haven't been able to get past AT&T verification for the last hour and a half.

Same to me!!! why was the option to sign in to your apple account not over there on the left?? Instead of "sorry this option is not available" THEN I'm sure I would be able to have it shipped!! UGH!!!!

The requirement that all iPhones be shipped to the customer's AT&T billing address with signature required is a genius move that is going to cause huge headaches for FedEx as hundreds of thousands of packages will go back undelivered, or it could have a minor impact on the economy as hundreds of thousands of people take the day off from work to sit around waiting for FedEx to show up. Go AT&T!
FedEx will handle it just fine. At least as well as they usually do.
And it is a good thing signatures are required.
I hope the rest is you joking, but somehow I doubt it...

That message has come anytime I've preordered anything. I think it's just to keep them safe in case of production issues and not getting enough stock. For the most part you'll be safe

Ridunkulous

As with everyone else, I've been trying to order a replacement 16GB iPhone 4. Apparently my session times out even though it was only a few seconds to the next step, 1-800-MY-APPLE is offline due to extremely high call volume, and the new Apple Store application crashes upon attempting to purchase the iPhone 4.

FAIL on Apple's part. How could they not be prepared for this, unless they wanted this to happen to create MORE buzz and anticipation (given Apple's marketing and PR history I wouldn't doubt it).

OK so I've been trying to order since 5AM Central time. After finding out that I can't have this delivered to my work address I opted to reserve this at the Apple store near me due to the fact that I have to work all day and can't wait around at home for this to be delivered. I live in an apartment so I don't trust this sitting at my doorstep and not sure if this would get dropped off at our main office otherwise. Needless to say as of around 9:30AM CENTRAL time I FINALLY have one reserved for pick up at the Apple store. And as of typing this out I received a confirmation e-mail from Apple. I hope this works and a phone is saved for and I'm out of there in time for work at 9AM!

Is this from the ATT website or Apple as well? if i cant get it delivered to my work then this is kind of pointless for me too....

Guys this is a major fail. Why would we expect the phone to operate any different than this preorder process is working? AT&T has problems, Apple has problems.. Lets leave them to their problems and look for a better solution.

Ive been trying since 7:30am EST, fails every time. At this point Im ready to sell my apple stock, and move on as I truly see this as a reflection on the quality of service I can come to expect from these two companies moving forward. Preorders are not cutting edge, they did fine for ipads, so again this is a major fail. Apple officially did not care enough to make sure this process went smooth.

F-em

...Honestly I am amazed you know how to work an iPhone with your logic. Apple doesn't care? If they didn't care, why are they even bothering to sell the iPhone? Why not just make a few prototypes and send them around the office? Why go and spend millions of dollars on creating, marketing, producing, and distributing a new device; if they don't care? Guess what **** happens, its called life. Apple is not run by super humans, so problems arise. Maybe because so many people these days are impatient and must have the latest iProduct, they are flooding the already busy store server. The standards some of you people hold Apple too is absolutely ridiculous. I say move on Chief, Apple won't beg you to stay a loyal customer. In fact they will simply replace you with two individuals willing to buy there products. Get a life, quit your whining, and be patient. It's the internet, and it has problems.......

Pretty fun experience at Radio Shack this morning.

Yesterday they had the sign posted saying they'd be taking pre-orders at 6am today. I showed up at 7am and the store was deserted. Came back an hour or so later, after their normal opening time, and noticed that the "6am" on the sign had been scratched out. I asked what the deal was, and the guy's response was "because we open at 8am."

He had to take down orders by hand -- no big surprise, given the way Apple and AT&T's servers are s****ing the bed this morning. He said they had been instructed by Apple not to place any pre-orders until noon, so I'll know by then whether I got mine or not (I was #8 on the list so I feel safe).

Funniest part -- he asked what color I wanted. I was like "... uh ... you can't order in white right now." He said he hadn't heard anything about that.

is the pre order process the same as reserving it at the apple store?

cause i want to port my number, but i do'nt know if i'll be able to cause my contract isn't over yet. any thing i can do?

also, i dont have credit, what are the approval rates for just an individual plan?

I think this is AT&T's fault. My request on Apple.com always times out when checking for eligibility.

And I get the above message when attempting to go to the AT&T Premier store to upgrade.

Good job AT&T..

ah thanks for the info. I was scared for a moment, thought I would have to wait in the morning line before work to guarantee me getting it  ... I just wanna go after work and pick it up... much easier.

Apple site is out of order, AT&T site says:
