#1: You can't blame Apple

Face it, this is an AT&T issue at this point in the process. You'd think they would hire Apple to manage their server farm. Chances are, it's running Windows.

So you hate windows, I get it.. but yes you can blame apple, who chose ATT as their partner? Who decided to do a pre-order process? was it AT&T or Apple? Get over it, this is an apple fail.

#2: Preparing for an "onslaught" is difficult (for anyone)

It's hard to "prepare" for an event such as what is happening right now. Even if you've done it a 100 times, you don't know WHAT you will be faced with. Even the grandest of server and network setup schemes are prone to fail. I've seen it time and time again myself. Just when you think all the bugs have been worked out, it fails.

It is hard to prepare yes but that doesn't mean you don't do it, test it and make sure that **** works. Again apple FAIL.

#3: NO ONE is PERFECT

Yep, that includes you, me, Apple, ATT, Tmobile, Verizon, Sprint, Microsoft (especially), Google, etc etc etc.

NO ONE IS PERFECT. While this is frustrating... for every one of us... we have all had our failures. This is their (those who are dealing with all this mess) failure, so accept it and try again later.

I'm not expecting perfection.. Im expecting apple to not fail this bad. Apple is either *clueless* and thus should not command such a large stock price and ranking in the market place, OR they failed here. If they had tested things correctly (I do production web sites, I know) this would not have happened.

wow that sucks. i didnt see that posted anywhere on ATT premier site....got all the way up to place order button for it to throw me out. now ATT wont even let me sign in :(

apples site doesnt seem to be getting any better

EVERYBODY, . . TOGETHER, . . . . one.. two.. three.. WHINE!!!!!

(there, now I feel better)

"Any Color You Want As Long As It's Black" - Henry Ford on the Model-T

ugh, waiting for white iPhone to be available...
It's De Ja Vu all over again. Remember when Henry Ford introduced the Model T? Looks like we've come full circle. That was in August 1908, 102 years ago.

I guess they will keep making Black iPhones until all the pre-orders and reserved ones are fulfilled. Then the White assembly line will start. Hope it's by the end of June. I want White because it screams I'm an iPhone 4! Plus higher resale value.

Finally got through...

First time I got through on AT&T, got an error literally just before clicking the check-out button... everything was gone. Finally got through an hour later to replace two phones with new iPhone 4s! Now there is one less person trying to get through... good luck to the rest of you, hope you get yours in soon! (BTW, go through AT&Ts site... Apple's was a dud from the get-go...)

At 9am I had luck getting past the ATT portion, only to have it time out AFTER that.

Still no preorder and I've been trying repeatedly since 9:30 AM EST.

Truth is probably that pre-orders taken through most of this week will arrive right on the 24th, though. I ordered my iPad 3G a full week and a half after the announcement and it arrived the day-of.

Deja Vu indeed.

This comparison has only been made 4675 times in this thread. FAIL.

is the pre order process the same as reserving it at the apple store?

cause i want to port my number, but i do'nt know if i'll be able to cause my contract isn't over yet. any thing i can do?

also, i dont have credit, what are the approval rates for just an individual plan?

This guy is a GENIUS! We were doing it all wrong... I see now! LOL what a condescending douche.

No he's simply saying your being impatient. Why are you people so worried you won't get the latest iPhone? Does it cure cancer? Will it end your life's hardships? Nope. So why not simply chill and say, "Alright, I'll get it when I can get it." A huge chunk of the posters on this thread, think they are entitled to the new iPhone just because they are willing to upgrade...it's disgusting.

Most of you will just take this post, quote it, and say, "Wow what a douche."

But will never answer my question, "Why are you in such a hurry to get the new iPhone?"

I gave up at 5am and went to bed, and when I wake up the first thing that i did was to try again and i was still getting the process screen but then I checked my cart and there it was lol

Please be assured that we are working as quickly as possible to remedy the situation. We apologize for this inconvenience and ask that you please try back again later."

I think this is AT&T's fault. My request on Apple.com always times out when checking for eligibility.

And I get the above message when attempting to go to the AT&T Premier store to upgrade.

Good job AT&T..

same here.

Can't even attempt to add to the cart until I'm past that part

Great.

Now iPhone 4 doesn't show up on the Premier website. It did this morning!

What a mess.

Oh come on man, I didn't once complain about the iPhone. And yes, he was being a douche because what do you think everyone's doing? I couldn't care any less if I can't pre-order the iphone right now ... it wont make me feel any better that I have to wait till the 24th. He was just stating the obvious.

I think Both could have prepared better. Pages from Apple's store, ones that you load before it even connects to AT&T are not loading half the time. Also, they don't have a good way to indicate to customers if they are logged into their apple accounts or not - AND they don't even give the option to log in when you get to the page where you pick what store you want.

Like, what were they thinking? If they force you to be logged into your account in order to have this shipped to your house, don't you think they should say "welcome, _______" at the top next to your shopping cart so you know you are logged in? And even if you weren't logged in they should let you sign in when you get to the step where you have the option to ship or pick up!!

I bet this is because of that whole "can't buy an iPad unless you have a Apple Account" thing, except for iPhone!! UGH!

Got it!

Here's something to try: I made it almost all the way through this morning, then got an error message. Spent the next couple hours trying over and over again. Finally, I thought I'd give it a rest and look at some of the accessories. Went to order the universal dock adapter, and guess what was in my cart already? That's right: A 32 gig black iPhone 4.

So, if you've made it almost all the way through, check your cart. You might be done and not know it.

Seriously people, relax. It's a phone. You will get your pre-order in, ready to sell your stock over this? G ood grief, stop whining already.

Im not whining, Im stating a fact, Apple has had a major fail here.

Fact is there are probably millions trying to pre-order, if you understand technology, there is only so much you can do. You can't even compare iPad pre-orders to a very well established base of iPhone customers who are going o pre-order. Let the dust settle and get your order in, you will get your phone you big spoiled brats.
:D

I do technology, I get it, trust me I've deployed production systems with WAY more users/requests/bandwidth than a simple tiny pre-order process for an e-commerce site. Get over yourself here thinking you know that millions are trying.. Millions may be trying, VERY FEW are getting orders.. Apple has failed to execute here, it is as simple as that.. what does that say about the company and their products? It is speaking volumes to me, and I am someone who has supported apple for a very long time.

Wrong, I am consistently timing out on Apple's site before getting to the eligibility check.

It could also be that Apple's servers are not handling sending the requests properly. Sorry to disappoint, but it could be either parties fault, a combination of both, or just a fact of life.
