Been trying from 5 am ... wtf, such a PITA just to order a damn phone
 
So, I think I'm all set now, by using the new Apple Store app on the iPhone. The ease of the reservation is what has me questioning it's validity. Is it right that I didn't have to enter any payment information?

I now have a reservation to pick up a black iPhone 4, 32GB at my local Apple Store according to the iPhone app. It says that the phone will be available for me all day.

My same concern... it was too easy and I did not get any email confirmation... hmm

Ok... I just did get an email with a price of $699? Yah right.
 
I just ordered through the AT&T site. Like everyone else, i've been getting errors through Apple's site.

I kept trying to port my number, which kept giving me an error on ATT's site. The online sales agent through ATT told me to get a new number, and port my old number later. After I did that, it went through without a problem, and I already received my confirmation email.

Hope this helps some people.
 
Yes, it does. My reservation confirmation email showed my $299 price AND my current unlimited data plan. The next two orders I put in (family plan) showed the full prices and no data plan though... weird.

So you were able to reserve 3 using the same itunes account? I have resereved 1, but am having trouble getting a 2nd through using the app.
 
My Order is in ...

It took a while this morning, but I got my order in the Apple Store at 6:18 PDT today. I even have my order number - no confirmation email yet...

I would stay away from the AT&T Store ... I had a friend who ordered the 3GS last year and got it a few weeks late - depsite a delievery promise of the launch day ....

I will not be 100% confident I will be getting mine on the 24th until I get the confirmation email - but I know Apple as one of the best Supply Chain systems in the world :)

Right, but, per someone else's comment, I had changed my billing address to my office, albeit only earlier this morning, on AT&T's site. That apparently hadn't filtered through to Apple's site (unsurprisingly).

Given all the comments about AT&T, I went ahead and just purchased the iPhone sitting in my Apple cart (heh) and will hope that I catch them at home on the 24th. It's just nice to have this over with.
 
Finally

Got my order processed through AT&T. Had tried Apple Store and AT&T earlier, to no avail. Had gotten to checkout with AT&T around 9:30A but canceled because I was unhappy they don't guarantee iPhone Drop Day delivery. Could never get past the checking eligibility on Apple. Gave up for an hour and a half. Came back, straight on through on AT&T (Premier.) AT&T is handling in-house approval quickly but not playing nicely with Apple.

Tried the app but the nearest Apple Store is 3 hours (Raleigh, NC or Charleston, SC)

If I get the day after iPhone 4 drops then maybe my activation will be smoother!

BTW: my premier account is through Union Plus because I'm a Teamster (film industry) There was a note that said unless member is a UPS or USPS employee item will be delivered via FedEx. Thought that was funny since FedEx isn't Teamster and I am... Oh, well, guess you had to be there. Been a long morning.

Why aren't there any ETA's on the white iPhone? Guess I'll just buy the black one and then swap it out for a white one when they come in...
 
Ok guys. If I pre-order from AT&T then have best buy order one (pre-order) for me will either of them activate the phone for me? It looks like I was eligible twice on the same phone! :D
 
I reserved mine through the Apple Store App...It says the price is $599...Hopefully the Apple employees at the store can straighten out
 
Everyone here is saying this an ATT issue with the Apple store not working... Well, I can't even get past the very first screen. I select "create a new account" and my session immediately times out. I think both Apple and ATT are BOTH to blame for this mess.

You should be able to pick it up that day. They may have a time frame by which it has to be picked up but not sure. I would assume they would give you until 7pm, at least.
 
How did anyone order directly through ATT? When I go to the list of phones and devices, I don't see any iPhone 4 devices listed.
 
Well I caved and went ahead and reserved through the app. I really wanted it shipped to my house because I don't trust them to actually reserve it for me, so I'm going to end up having to be there at 7am...
 
Here's what worked for myself and a bunch of my co workers.

The apple guy at our local store said AT&T is overwhelmed upgrade requests.

So.. Download the apple store app, he said it already has your phones info when you get to the upgrade part, so it's faster and works..

Ditto. After trying repeatedly without success since about 7:00 this morning, I downloaded the app. I had a confirmed reservation at my local Apple store in about 2 minutes flat. Truth be told, it worked so well and so quickly I feel like a tool for wasting all that time with the Apple and AT&T websites :p
 
I am on the checkout page of ATT ready to click submit to finalize it but im hesitant to order from them because they are notorious for you not getting it on time

Exactly. Do you really think Apple is going to allow people who reserved the phone from their iphone app to get their hands on the phone BEFORE those whoa actually PAID and registered for it already on the website? I think not. I can even foresee two separate lines being formed outside the store. One for those who have PAID for the phone already and one for those who reserved it through the app. My guess is that those who reserved it will be on a first come first serve basis. Not to mention all of the nonsense you guys are going to have to go through to straighten your billing options out at the store. CHAOS. No thank you. I'll wait until Apple sorts out this server issue.

will there be a separate lines for reservations and ppl jus trying to buy one without a reservation?
 
I'm wondering the same thing? I used the *639# and was informed I was eligible for the upgrade. The App reservation did ask for the last 4 digits of the social, so presumed it would check. It seemed very quick, especially when I've tried over the last 4 hours to confirm through Apple's web site. Maybe I'll contact the store later when all the ruckus has subsided.

Why does my reservation email show a 699 price even tho Im eligible for the upgrade?
