My order worked immediately via AT&T, Apples site was going too slow.

And zomg I didn't wake up early and plan my day around ordering the phone and I still got one.

You CAN change the shipping address

Note that if you order through Apple, you can later go back to your order history, click on the order details, and change your shipping address, even though it locks you into your billing address when you place the order.

This was a big relief for me since it now appears that I can ship to my office instead of trying to work from home.

Interestingly, I received a confirmation email for the address change, but did not receive one for the order itself. Not worried though, since they've already charged my card.

Went to an AT&T store, and was in-n-out within 10 minutes. On my way home I stopped by the Apple store to check on the reservation I made via iPhone App while standing in line @ AT&T, where I was told that even though I have a "reservation", I would still have to come wait in line with everyone else on the 24th, so basically the iPhone App reservation means nothing...

interesting...i called and they said I can come in any time I want on the 24th and Ill have one. I think YES u have to wait in the lines, but you are guaranteed one.

Almost 4:30...still can't place an order online. AT&T's site hangs, and Apple's is stuck 'accessing AT&T Account Information'. Guess at this point I'll just say screw it and wait until they're actually out to just go in and get one.

Tired of playing the waiting game

Patiently, I held out for a 3G iPad (and I'm glad I did, all AT&T security issues aside); I waited a month longer than everyone who got their wifi on launch day. So, I was understandably looking forward to getting my new phone "the day of." Now, no white ones available???? I suppose I'll be playing the waiting game, once again.

And you know, really, I prefer the look of the black one, but I've had my black iphone for nearly 3 years now, and I want a new look. That's all.

Back to waiting. *resigned sigh*

I hope that's the case and the employee was mis-informed. I'm not trying to piss on anyone's parade, I'm just curious what other people have found out about this..

8 1/2 hours later!

My order just went through after every single error message you could possibly get. There is still hope! Just for your information I am in southwest Florida but my billing address is an Iowa address (I am a student down here). Keep clicking away!

p.s. I ordered on a POS PC where I work... wanted it to be with my i7 iMac at home!

I posted this in the other thread, but seems most are posting here, so figured I'd repost it. Not sure if anyone else has tried Best Buy... My local store said only 10 people came today.

Best Buy told me they would have white on release day and let me pre-order white. I didn't even think about it until they asked what color.
Just to be safe, I ordered both a white and a black 32GB. I mean, I'll obviously use both $50 gift cards, regardless.

Worst case scenario... I'll still have the black... but several of them said they heard rumors about white not being available but they were told they'd have it. It was in their system and it's on my receipt... so we'll see.. nothing for me to lose. Best case scenario, I'll be able to decide in person which color I like better.

Did the site open back up? my sister just got breezed through the Apple site with an order confirmation in about 5 minutes...

Just for the he** of it, I tired to go through the process again with another phone I have on my plan to see if the process is going any faster. I used the pre-order option on Apple.com and seems to be going a little faster. It is definitely not perfect but at least its not shooting back errors every 5 seconds and kicking me out of the process.

So if you gave up and have had no luck yet, don't give up. Try it again! :)

maybe you can have her order mine before I put a bullet in something :p

I keep getting "Please wait while we access your AT&T account information." and then it times out.

This morning, on the Apple site, I got thru ONCE, eligible (thanks I already know that) quickly hit continue and BAM ................ Session ended due to inactivity. Not even 3 seconds

After the usual pre-order launch day insanity at Apple and AT&T and a ton of mechanical problems with numerous web store crashes and updates that started this morning at 4:00am EST I've successfully ordered my new Black 32GB iPhone 4 to be delivered to my house on the morning of June 24th. :)

I've been an Apple user since 1986 or so and have been through a ton of their product launches and I must say this one was the MOST difficult. The bottleneck occurred at the handshake between Apple.com and AT&T's websites during account verification where they check to see if you are eligible for the discount pricing.

After about 5 hrs of attempts I was able to reserve a phone for store pickup at about 9am this morning, I then foolishly/bravely waded back in to the mess and was finally able to place the order on the phone with AT&T for home delivery.

I finally was able to generate two pre-orders for pick-up at a local Apple store. I was given the option for home delivery. Am getting a 16 and 32.

Well I finally got my order for a 16gb thru ..................... by ordering the 32gb

Always better to have more I suppose lol

almost ordered the camera connection kit too. 3-4 weeks still gives me time for my trip right?

wrong.

now its 4-6 weeks then delivery AFTER that. wow

is there some sort of confirmation email for pre order pickup / delivery thru apple.com?

i just reserved to pickup an iphone at an apple location via upgrade, but it never asked anything and it just said we'll see you at the apple store... haha i never signed in or anything so i'm like wtf?

i've been trying all day.

My Upgrade Experience

Success - Via ATT

Had two computers working simultaneously - by most of the comments here used Apple.com and in addition to the MULTIPLE other failed attempts I had two occasions where I had pressed the "add to cart" button and my session timed out.
All told I was online trying to get this done for 2 hours. Finally on my laptop the ATT wireless service got me through. It was a bit unerving when it told me that the messaging choice and data plan were incompatible. Somehow I screwed up once and got kicked out - the second time my credit card information timed me out and the third time I somehow got it done.

What chaos.

Now I am finally in and happy. Good hunting to the rest of you who are still struggling.

I have 4 people on my family plan. My wife and I both have the iPhone 3GS and I have an upgrade but, my wife does not. My Mom and Grandmother have regular phones and are available for upgrades. If I try to use their upgrade, I have to sign up for a data plan.

Can I cancel the data plan when I get the phone or am I stuck with the $10 a month fee?

note the smiley at the end. He was joking.

All jokes aside, I'm p****d that they don't have the white either. That really would have been good to know. Forget launch day now.

Well done, Apple.

BL.

This is B******* Apple should have specified the White would not be avaliable until later on. I'm with you. Forget launch day for me too... What a damn disappointment.
