Same reason for ram I suspect, extra money to put it in and apple were keeping costs down. Plus is it really going to make a big real world difference?

Anyone still bitching about the display of the iPhone and claiming apple should put the equivalent on the iPad at this point is so far removed from reality the appearance of unicorns would not be surprising.

Even more glad i chose iPhone over iPad. Was very close to getting the latter.

Aside for the imovie app.....

So let me get this straight. ALL apps I see being updated in the app store are for iOS4 features. The ipad was announced and released within a few months of the offical iOS4 keynote (even though there has been rumors and previous mention of iOS4 in other keynotes). Plus they said iOS4 would be available for the ipad in the fall and we early adopters could get the next major upgrade for free.

Now you're telling me my ipad will not be able to take advantage of the features?? And what about the apps that are being updated for iOS4? will they no longer run? Most of these apps I paid for... All I gotta say is my ipad better be able to handle it, my apps better not break or Apple better give me an $800 credit (price of my original ipad, applecare, and state sales tax) toward a new one.

I specifically bought an ipad for it's features, apps, and the iOS4 features when they were released. Especially folders and the chance at multitasking.

LOL.

This information should have come out months ago when Gizmodo got their hands on the lost test unit. If they were prepared to shell out $5k to get the iPhone 4 in their hands, they could have hired an engineer to cull some specs. But no, they left it to Jason Chen to fiddle with and break it.

I'm sure glad I bit my tongue and held off on purchasing iPad v.1...
So we know know that iPad v.2 will have at least one camera (facetime video) and more useful ram to run all the goodies of IOS 4. For once my addiction for all things Apple didn't cause a money dump..

RTA. Apple did, at WWDC. Arn WAS there, so I'm sure he's not making it up.

Who is "Apple?" Is there a guy named Apple? I have seen no "confirmation" yet. So I'm skeptical. Is it unlikely the iPhone 4 has 512MB? No. But I won't believe it till there's a reputable source.

Arn is a reputable source. He wouldn't have posted unless he was positive, hence the delay. He waited until he had verification from a source he trusted (and probably can't reveal.)

Apple as in Apple Inc. who makes the iPhone 4. You can't get more reputable then that.....

I'm not so sure the iPad only has 256MB RAM. The only place this info comes from is iFixIt.com, and they weren't 100% sure when they looked at the iPad's memory board. As I recall they worked the RAM out by counting chips on the board and comparing it to the specs from another device by the same manufacturer (I think).

If you plug your iPad serial number into this site, it comes up as having 512MB RAM.

AHAHHAHA "Who is Apple" priceless.

Makes me wonder why the iPad did not include 512.

My question is now long will it take to output a 720p video in iMovie and how much battery drain are we talking here.

If you are a registered apple dev, you can see it yourself in Session 147, Advanced Performance Optimization on iPhone OS, pt 2

My iPad's 256MB RAM and non-Retina Display make it seem ... ugh.

seriously! this is a little frustrating. I mean, I'm okay not having the retina display since having that ppi on a 10" display would most likely cost a ton, but half the ram?? Come on! Why is my iPad slower than a phone?? :(

Oh, man! iPad 4 is going to be AWESOME! Wake me for that.

Sure wish I could get this iPhone 4 thingy on T-Mobile.
