I finally got one! 32gb ;)
Woke up at 4am, got to the AT&T store at 5am. There was a bunch of people sleeping on the walkway outside. Had about 20 people in front of me, ~100 in line total. The store in Vista, CA only got 40 phones (10 32gb) so I was a bit worried. I ended up getting the second to last 32gb iPhone 4. Well worth the wait! Now just waiting for activation...

ATT by me.. NY had 50 16gig and 30 32gig
they were getting a second shipment today of 30 32gig and 40 16 gig...
I got the second to last 16gig of the first shipment due to someones credit card being rejected.

Hoo Rah .. awesome phone and the screen difference between this and my 3Gs is huge.. way clearer and more crisp.

PS.. ATT did a great job with the 100 people in line at 6:30 am .. I left at about 10am.

Wife just walked into the att store at 8am... bought one and left. No line... you know, like a normal phone. :)

Nice. Where do you live?

I live in a town of 17k, although it borders a region of 500k people within an hour. There were 50 people in line when I arrived just before 7 a.m. I was around 40th, I think, and was issued a voucher for a 16g iPhone 4 for the 10:30 delivery. Picked it up at 9:30 an I am syncing now!

I think this store only received about 40 phones total.

please tell me why it (iPhone4) is good?

Please tell us why you are so threatened and offended by people being excited about a device that you don't personally have any interest in. So threatened and offended in fact that you intentionally stick your head into the crowd and crow to everyone that you aren't interested, and anyone who actually is interested is deserving of judgement and patronization.

No

People who don't understand the fervor over "just a cell phone" are being coy, intellectually dishonest, or just dumb if they don't realize that it is not just a cell phone to the majority of people today. And I am not talking about only iphones...I include Androids and other smart phones as well. They have become extensions of ourselves as ways we communicate and connect to the world (family, friends, business entertainment, education, etc) and have become very personal in nature. As an object that is constantly with me I appreciate the iPhone for its form as much as its function as it is a beautiful and elegant tool that fits my lifestyle perfectly.

No, most are buying the phone (now) because of the hype, the 5 minutes of fame, for having something new to show your friends and pure consumerism.

There is nothing that would disturb your “essential” connectivity with your friends and family by keeping the phone you presently own or waiting a few more days (weeks) until this one is sorted out and widely available.

People need a dose of reality. Maybe they cant cope with their own reality and that’s why they depend so much on the next gadget to come out.

While I do not own an iPhone (period), those that have purchased the iPhone 4 seem to love the thing. Everyone I have spoken to has had connection issues when holding the phone, though, and each one has immediately started talking about the case they will buy to fix the problem. It's unfortunate that a phone so beautifully designed NEEDS a case. It is also sad that people sit in front of a store for hours and hours for a bit of overpriced silicon, metal and glass...BUT, it's their lives, not mine. Who am I to judge? I'm guilty of equally stupid activities (like posting on this thread while I have loads of work to do).

200 dollars is over priced? that's the cost of the parts! When subsidized it's under priced.

Why didn't you people just pre-order it? Me and about 300,000 other people got ours on Wednesday or Thursday last week...and we didn't even have to stand in line!
But...I guess if dealing with scummy AT&T cell phone sales reps who know far less about their product than their customers is your thing, then good for you.

If that is really what you believe then you are a fool.

You're not factoring in the 2 year contract with a mandatory data plan. It's not under priced.

that argument is so ***** old already!

Sprint + EVO = $199 + MANDATORY 4G Plan
Verizon + Droid Incredible = $199 + MANDATORY DATA PLAN
Verizon + Droid X = $299 + MANDATORY DATA PLAN

Any next Gen touchscreen smartphone = MANDATORY DATA PLAN

If that were REALLY the case then when Apple introduced the iPhone3G (the first subsidized iPhone) at $199, you would have seen everyone buy it because of the hype and when the iPhone 3GS came out it would have failed cause no one would buy into the hype AGAIN and then when Apple introduced the iPhone 4 they wouldn't have made history by selling 1.7 million iPhones in 3 days. Thats a hell of alot of impulse buys just because of "hype".

I have to give ATT their props!!!

I know that ATT has screwed all of us in one way or another...however...I have to give them their props for their service today at a local ATT store in Philly...I went to pick up a phone for my youngest son.....his older brother was eligible for an upgrade but he was not....I got to the store at 6:00AM and they were very organized...they came out and explained that they only had 19 phones...if you were in line they would give everyone after 19 a sheet to be scanned to reserve a phone....I was #22.....long story short some of the first 19 wanted 32gigs and they didn't want a 16gig....they offered those waiting a chance to purchase the 16gig....I did...they did the Upgrade swap without issue and I was in an out in less than an hr.....so...I believe when someone does something right we should acknowledge it just as much as we do when they are wrong....thanks ATT.....

No need to post twice. We ignored you the first time.

store here in Cherry Hill NJ had 50 total this morning.. roughly 30 something 16GB and the rest 32GB. I was about the 30 person in line and waited about 45 minutes with my wife. We both love ours! Sync up and rocking

No dreaded reception problems either.

Wish there were more cases and screen protectors out..couldn't find a decent one anywhere in town.

Some of us did pre-order it (before the cut-off) and for some reason or another AT&T screwed something up along the way, so we're seeing backorders still, while random walk-in customers can get iPhones...not trying to be rude, but I know there's a lot in the same boat as me (AT&T Premier orders) who have been getting to the stores to try to get one and then cancel the (now pointless) pre-order.

It's amazing how you are able to determine the desires and motivation of well over a million people with such ease. Where does one acquire such a talent? Do they have courses? Are "Condescending Superiority 101" and "An Intro to Nerd Rage" prerequisites?

Maybe he's just a closeted iPhone lover, who's stuck on a two-year term agreement with Sprint and is too broke to pay an ETF to Sprint + a deposit to AT&T + cost of iPhone? I smell a hater. ;)

I just picked up my new iPhone 4 from a local ATT store (Houston, TX). There were no lines and they are still waiting on another shipment today. I had pre-ordered my phone from Apple with a July 2 shipment date and I just now cancelled it.

Kindly supply me with an ulterior motive/reason as to why people are queuing for days on end to buy a phone that does just a little bit more than the one they already have?. Why not wait a few weeks until it is tested and readily available.

BTW (it would be to easy for you to suggest that this is Apple bashing so I can inform you that I have Macs at home)

LOL, actualy I am a closeted Apple lover but a Fanatics and "Hyped" marketing hater.

My phones (iphone) are always bought (full price) although my mobile carrier tries to give them to me so I dont leave!
