My AT&T store had a ratio of 80-20 16gb-32gb, so if your going for 32 there's a chance you won't get it. Every store might be different, and you may not be going for 32, but just saying.

Good call

16 GB for and the wife

They said they had 150 last launch and that it looked the same this time.

Just gave out chips

You are kidding, right? It′s supposed to go on sale in many countries near the end of July. They just won′t announce dates. September is like 9 months before the announcement of the NEXT iPhone.

At least here in Brazil, iPhone 4 is expected to arrive officially by the end of september... like happened with the other models since 3G.

Hope you have better luck!

I waited in line at my Apple store on launch day, and it was sort of fun. People were hanging out having a good time. Chick-Fil-A was passing out free chicken sandwiches, water, and chips. The guy said they had handed out thousands of sandwiches and Apple was picking up the tab.

This was my first upgrade since the 2G so I was ready for the new model. ATT must have good coverage in Tampa, because I don't get the dropped calls everyone complains about, from the 2G and now the iP4. I can make the signal bars go down like people talk about but it has never disconnected me or affected my call quality.

People who don't understand the fervor over "just a cell phone" are being coy, intellectually dishonest, or just dumb if they don't realize that it is not just a cell phone to the majority of people today. And I am not talking about only iphones...I include Androids and other smart phones as well. They have become extensions of ourselves as ways we communicate and connect to the world (family, friends, business entertainment, education, etc) and have become very personal in nature. As an object that is constantly with me I appreciate the iPhone for its form as much as its function as it is a beautiful and elegant tool that fits my lifestyle perfectly.

Not particularly. A large percentage of iPhone 4 buyers are upgrading their iPhone. I'm guessing you don't have an iPhone.

In my situation, I use my iPhone a lot. It is my one most-used piece of technology. Work, email, phone calls, IM, games, etc... it gets a ton of use. And I suspect it's the same for many, so I think the excitement is genuine.

I don't know what you do day to day, but let's say you were a painter, and you particularly loved this one brand of brush that you used all the time, and a much better version comes out, you'd want to get it today. Not 4 weeks from now.

Similarly, people line up for sporting events. There's no sport I care enough about to do the same, I don't begrudge them doing it.

arn

I agree.

I have some great Apple technology.....but for me my iPhone is one of my most favorite items. Basically because of its size and what it can do. The others are great, with the iPad a close second, but the iPhone 4 is just awesome.

At this rate even those of us planning to wait a few weeks to avoid lines will still be waiting in line....

Exactly!;)

Got mine this morning at a store in St. Louis, MO! They said it would take a little while before the phone service would activate, and an hour and a half later it still says "no service". Anyone else like this? How long should/does it take before the cell service activates?

Turn it off and back on

was 7th in line out of maybe 35 when the doors opened, got out of there by 7:30am. they had 200+ in stock with another delivery scheduled for this afternoon. i don't know the breakdown on 16 vs 32.

the longest part was activation, it did not finally activate until 8:00am or so (on my way to work) i am assuming due to server loads.

this was an AT&T company store BTW, not a franchise so maybe that's why the larger inventory?

Franklin MA AT&T

Got in line at the Taylor MI store at around 5:30am and there were about 30 people in line ahead of me. A few more people trickled in, but the line didn't get significantly longer until right before the store opened. Everyone in line before 7 got a phone, but I don't know about people who arrived later (one guy stalked off so maybe they ran out). I think they said they had about 50 phones and were getting more at noon. They said they would give vouchers to anyone who couldn't get one this morning.

Anyone know if other stores are getting more later today? I know they said they might at my local store.

I was tempted to buy a 32GB iPhone 4 online from AT&T, but I don't see anywhere that shows how long it will take to ship, even when I was in checkout. I have a good feeling my local Apple Store will get in a new shipment in a few hours and I'll receive the email that says I can pick mine up. Apple can't give two AT&T stores in the same mall where the Apple Store is 40 iPhone 4's each and not send their own retail store anything. At least I hope not :p.

My iPhone 32GB pre-order from AT&T is shipping seven days from today. Ordered back during the pre-order period.

Just picked up mine from AT&T. Got there at 6:50, and the line wasnt to bad, about 40 people. Got out at 9 with a brand new iphone 4!

got one!

I got to a Central NJ AT&T store at 5:15am and was #8 in line, the last one in the first batch of customers right at 7am. It took a while to get sorted, because AT&T's computer system hates me. But it's done!

There seemed to be about 40 people in line when I left at 7:30am.

Wife just walked in and got one...

Wife just walked into the att store at 8am... bought one and left. No line... you know, like a normal phone. :)

To answer your question about the paint brush I would not buy the new brush unless the old was was worn out as a brush is simply a brush as a cell phone is simply a cell phone.

Ahhhh, see, now therein lay the difference in perspective. In the general marketing sense, these devices are still referred to under the guise of "smart phone". But I think it's a bit of a misnomer at this point. These "smart phones" have moved beyond a phone that can do these extra things, to personal pocket computers that you also happen to be able to make phone calls with (not that making phone calls is not a primary concern for people buying one of course).

Yes, I know mobile computing has had numerous attempts to break out in the past (i.e. PDAs etc.), but it is only now that these devices are truly flourishing to the point of becoming common place, and almost a necessity for a great number of people.

I've always been in love with computers and technology. I'm 38 now and I got my first computer (Atari 1200XL) when I was around 10 I think. I haven't had that sorta wonder and fascination with the possibilities of new technology for quite a long time. The explosion of mobile computing brings back that wonder and excitement of new things to explore.

Makes me tingle in my naughty places ;)
