Anyone else getting a little of the oil slick effect? I am getting it at the bottom of my screen. It's not bad but I'm asking because I have a SPG Crystal clear screen prot. on and would like to see if thats why I'm getting it.

I've had it on since I picked it up at the local FedEx center. Just to test it I put the Defender on right from the box. No wiping, no compressed air, no nothing. Opened up the box, took out the Defender, put the iPhone 4 in it and closed it up.

That was Saturday at 2:00 and as of this posting I have not had one oil slick spot. I did not have any kind of screen protector on the iPhone before or during.

This case comes as advertised. I've been impressed.

Also, one other thing that has impressed me about the case is the vast improvement made with the holster. I am not one to wear it but rather to use it as a desk cradle.

With the 3GS Defender you had to sacrifice stability if you wanted to use the holster on your desk and still be able to see the display.

That is not the case with the iPhone 4 Defender:

All of these options have equal stability in the holster thanks to the redesigned clip.

Why does otterbox use those stupid tabs/covers over certain areas? I'm going to have to cut them off.....I can tell it's going to be annoying and eventually not snap in place

Just stopped by the Fedex office and picked up my Otterbox Defender case and like others popped the iPhone 4 into it in the parking lot. I also saw no oil slick spot caused by static electricity. Looks like I'll be able to use the talc on my bod.

To bababoey14: I would recommend that you do not cut off the tabs. Engineers much smarter than you designed them for a specific reason. You will regret it if you remove them and then you'll be on here crying because Otterbox will not take back or replace your case.

I really like this case and think it is an improvement over the one I had for my 3Gs.

gdprof27, thank you for posting some useful photos! Why can't otterbox post pictures like these on their own site?

I ordered my Otterbox Defender for iPhone 4 on Wednesday 7/21 and still haven't even received the shipping notification e-mail. I called Otterbox last Friday (they have a nice feature where you can select to have a rep. call you back) and was told it would be 7 - 10 days to ship. WTF? People on this forum are receiving theirs within 2 - 3 days of ordering, so I don't understand the delay.

I dream of getting my iPhone case in the mail too. This way, it'll be ready when my iPhone comes in the mail.
I got my e-mail yesterday with the Fed Ex tracking. I ordered on the 21st and look to be receiving on the 28th. Woo!
So in your dreams.... where anything is possible... where you can do anything you want............ you dream of getting an iphone case in the mail.

Something is wrong for you guys that ordered from Otterbox. I ordered two defenders for the Iphone 4 and a defender for my Ipad on Sunday, shipped on Monday. I would call and follow up if it were me. Having had the defender for my 3GS, I wouldnt use anything else. That phone went through hell and never had one single issue. Even the rubber cover doesnt show wear, let alone the phone.

Same here.

Well I kinda did the same thing. When fedex arrived at my house last week I did a quick shirt wipe LOL of my iPhone 4 and popped it in the case to see if I liked it.

I was planning to take it apart clean everything really good then take pics of a re-assembly. Now so many good pics are up and I don't have any issues I don't want to take it back off I'm keeping that tight seal on it.

I read someone wants to cut the flaps off the defender why would you do that? They help make the device water resistant. You should buy the version without flaps. Going to Hawaii in a few days and now with my defender on I feel pretty safe with my iPhone 4 on the beach those flaps will help minimize sand etc... This will be a true test HEHE.

Love my defender :D

Yeah, I wouldnt take it off. Once that sucker is on there, its no easy chore to remove. But when I did finally take mine off of my 3GS, it looked like new.

I'm really digging the otterbox defender. At first I thought the silicone case was just going to slop around the thing, but there are edges and grooves that make it perfectly hug the harder inside plastic case.

It definitely adds some heft to the iphone, which actually feels nice - makes it much easier to hold & pick up, compared to naked. I can notice a small difference in the screen with the otterbox built-in screen protector, so I may eventually remove that.

Also, the weight of the iPhone naked is 4.8 ounces. Add on the defender case and you're now at 6.9 ounces.

It definitely adds heft, but like you, I like it as far as the grip. I also thought I would never use the belt clip, but ended up using it all the time because the phone clicks in there so well. Once the defender is on there, you just dont have to worry about anything. Mine has fallen off of my car roof, fell in the head on our boat (fresh water :) ) and gone flying out of a golf cart and tumbled across the parking lot, and there isnt a single piece of evidence on that case of anything. And, IMO the price, although certainly high versus what it costs to make, is well within reason considering cheap rubber ones can cost $30.

For those of you that have removed the screen protector... is it easy to do without damaging the case? Can you please explain how you did it and do any of you have any pics of it without the screen? Is their a gap between the glass and the plastic on the case? I was thinking of doing this and popping on a Power supply screen along with this case. Please share your tips with us!!!;)

Nevermind guys!!! I just popped it out. Wow!!! I got my screen back. It looks so much better. Not that it was too bad but I can see the difference. And I don't really need it cuz I bought it more for dropping vs dust. Now I'm loving it. ;)

Mine finally shipped today, a week later. I also got the same response about the 7-10 day shipping that the other guy got. It did take 7 days to ship mine...

I guess it will come in by the end of the week.

Now you can be that guy. Is there a gap? Was it difficult? Will a PS fit?

Any less drop protection with it out? From most pics I can't tell how deep the screen is from the front edge of the case.

Ha ha... there is a small gap. 1/8" Really easy to remove. I started at a corner and just pushed it out. I'm not sure if a PS will fit. I am using a SGP but I was told PS are thinner.

I don't think the screen would have any effect on drop coverage. I'm very happy that I removed it. I guess if you really need to have the built in screen protector on... then leave it on, but I don't need it. After removing their screen you can hold it up to a light and see that it looks like it has been etched so the screen won't stick to the IP4 screen. I can see how it does lower the quality of the display. The SGP screen that I have now looks great. It's the crystal one so look and feels like the IP4 glass. Overall I think I made a great choice. I now have the protection of Otterbox and the screen of the retina display of the iphone4
